Eric and Allison it was very nice of you both to do so much for the travel beans. All the rides, all the food, helping them find a van, picking them up and taking them everywhere, letting them sleep in your rv, dropping them off at the airport. It was a lot for you both to deal with. You both deserve a medal!
Honestly we loved every second of it! It was really nice being able to be so helpful...normally we're the ones crashing with friends/family, borrowing their cars, having them show us around, etc., so it felt good to finally return the favor. Obviously it didn't end how any of us thought, but we're glad they didn't have to go through it all completely alone ♥️
I love Alex and Emma! Been watching them for a while and was so excited to have them in the US!!! Especially, traveling with you… It broke my heart to see their video this past week!!! Can’t wait until they join back up with you, but it made me realize how being positive about a horrible situation makes all of the difference. They are a good example of when being on the road isn’t perfect. I won’t be complaining of the many flat tires I get, anymore 🙏
We're totally gutted they lost Frank and won't be starting the road trip with us. We feel the exact same way - after seeing what can happen, we'll gladly take a flat tire or squeaky belt or broken a/c any day!
FYI, we’ve traveled with an Airstream travel trailer and continually see sewer hose storage container caps on the roadside. Do yourselves a favor and get one of those safety chains (actually plastic) that hang onto your cap if it tries to wiggle off on bumpy roads. Eventually, we see the sewer hose flying out of storage container too after they unknowingly lose their caps.
Was shocking what happened to the Beans, thankfully they weren't hurt physically. If one good thing can come out of their loss it's that others get safety checks as you've wisely arranged 😊 Peace of mind for you both and happy travelling, can't wait to tag along 💕

In 1993 I bought 1973 22' Terry Trailer. I took it to a reputable RV repair shop and they fixed it up. Each year for three years I'd take it back to the shop to have it fixed up. After having it for three years, one of the "springs" broke on the way home from a camping trip. The trailer caught fire and was totaled. I had a smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector and two small fire extinguishers. There was no way those little fire extinguishers could have done anything. Luckily, it had RV insurance and I had RV roadside coverage (towing). The adjuster recommended that each time that I had it upgraded and repaired, that I update my insurance coverage. No one was hurt, but it was quite a shock. I'm glad to know that your friends are okay. Check the springs and bearings on your RV.
I literally was choked up watching the Bean's video about the fire and end of Frank. Seeing them absolutely gutted was hard to watch. As I was watching it, I immediately started thinking of you all and Clementine. Really wondered how seeing that would impact you all and how you feel about your own situation. Really great to hear that you all have taken what happened to them to heart and are taking the steps to get her checked out. Glad to hear the Beans are ok and back home in the UK. Great that you all are such good friends for them and were there to help them out.
It was definitely a pretty big shock. We had been chatting with them while they were out running errands and everything was so normal all day. It honestly still doesn't feel real. We'll for sure be getting some extra eyes on Clementine this coming week (and frequently throughout our trip) now that we know how easily and quickly things can get out of control 😔

I'm watching out of sequence because I just accidentally ran across Travel Beans' horrific video of their tragic fire. I'm so glad everyone is okay physically. I had this kind of fire happen to me once. It was a sensor in the gas tank that started the blaze. I was 7+ months pregnant and had my toddler daughter in the car with me. We all made it out, but when everyone saw the burned out wreck . . . they couldn't believe we made it out alive. I'm so glad that your friends are alright, too. CHEERS!
I watched that video because through watching y’all, I got hooked on the Travel Beans. Poor kids were SO scared…. I cried seeing how scared they were. Looks like their Go Fund Me is helping them quite nicely, and I’m sorry that the joint trip didn’t work out for y’all. I’m glad your taking the extra precautions as well. Yes, definitely replace all soft fuel lines. Especially the short section at the fuel tank/float connection. Which you may not be able to easily inspect. And on some van's, the connection between the fuel fill, and tank down tube, is sort of radiator style soft line. Those are notorious for rotting, especially with the newer fuel. Carry minimum of 2 larger fire extinguishers type ABC. And find a local place to be trained/practice use. Pretend practice what you will do if a fire starts in the kitchen, electric, engine, propane. Think/remember "PASS" . Pull the pin on the handle. Aim at the base of the flames. Squeeze the handle. Sweeping motion across the flame base.. REMEMBER, no matter the size of the extinguisher, it only gives 5 to 10 SECONDS of poof! So always have the second extinguisher ready, so someone getting it for you. Lastly, always have your important paperwork in a fire safe (permanent installation secure hidden low). AND leave a copy with someone you trust. Especially important if you are both incapacitated.

I have only ever seen those balls that explode when they detect fire, recommended once by a van lifer. I thought it was an awesome product and everyone should have it. It's something that has always scared me and most people only have a fire extinguisher often in a place hard to reach. You are wise to get a few.

I saw the Travel Beans video about the fire, it was absolutely crazy. Thankfully they didn't lose anything as they hadn't left full time yet but I feel so sorry for them. I hope they can continue with their plans soon and it wasn't too costly for them. Thank god their van was insured as they didn't mention that in the video and I was worried.

After seeing what happened to Alex and Emma, I get a little paranoid now with every little issue that happens with Clementine! At least this didn't happen to them after working on Frank for a year! You guys have been such good friends to them. Glad to be a longtime subscriber!
When traveling up the East Coast, it’s far better to get off 95 and take 58 toward Virginia Beach, then up the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, taking you through Virginia, Maryland, and the Delaware Beaches on the way back to Rt. 95. It’s a far more scenic and interesting drive than just going up 95 past Richmond, DC, and Baltimore. Stop in Ocean City MD and pick crabs and drink beer. Overnight at the Indian River inlet, where there’s a nice RV Park with amenities, and a wonderful restaurant on the beach.
The travel beans were so lucky. That video was terrifying I cried watching their dream literally go up in flames. Poor Emma was justifiably freaked out. Thank you for being there for them🙏. I'm sure you are both safe in Clementine. We are excited to travel along with you 😀 😊

Great you are nearly ready to go. That fire was horrific.. It turned into a ball of flames in such a short amount of time... Frightening. It will definitely take them some time for them to get over it and get the vision of Emma in the RV with flames around it out of their heads.
How scary! My sister once stopped her car, turned it off and got ready to pump gas. She went into the gas station to pay for the gas since it was before the pay at the pump. She left her toddler and his bestie in the locked car while she paid, keeping an eye on them snd the car through the window of the gas station when suddenly her car burst into flames. She ran like a cat to the car and got both kids out snd got out of harms way. I mean, right next to gas pumps is not the best place for a car fire. The car was a total loss but they were all safe. Turned out it was an issue with that Mitsubishi for that year. Electrical fire that just caused the entire car to become an inferno in a matter of a minute. Never heard of anything like that. It’s pretty rare. I’m glad your friends are safe. Take care. Be safe yourself.

Eric & Allison. I am glad Allison said you'll not just "touch the tip" but "go in deep"- to each state. If the map you showed is your final route, then perhaps considering weather conditions, you will have time to properly visit the best parts of Michigan & Wisconsin. In Michigan, where I live, I would HIGHLY recommend going up north along Lake Michigan to the Upper Peninsula.
So sorry about Frank and glad that the Beans were okay. Nice job on the doors. I like the bench but I would lop off the sharp corner closest to the door so it doesn’t hit you each time you come in.. It will give you more of your doorway back too. It will be fun to see what adjustments you make as you travel. For your route, I would follow the good weather. Start by making your way up to New England for late summer and fall, then head to Florida or the west coast for the winter months. The Midwest is best in fall or spring. It will be a grand adventure!
I saw on the map you are just touching the bottom part of Michigan. West Michigan is so amazing, Holland, Saugatuck, Grand Haven. If you do get up this way we would love to show you a couple spots. Sorry to hear about your friends.

I’m on vacations at canyon lake and we were driving back from the river and saw where the beans van had burned. A picture or video doesn’t do it justice by how burnt the ground was. Glad they’re ok. (Love you guys btw! Been following since y’all started the rv renovation)

I just started following your channel and have been enjoying your camper build a week's worth of episodes at a time. I'm watching out of sequence because I just accidentally ran across Travel Beans' horrific video of their tragic fire. I'm so glad everyone is okay physically. Now I've got two great channels to enjoy traveling videos with. Wishing all of you safe travels and very glad that there are so many great and supportive people out there.

I had this kind of fire happen to me once. It was a sensor in the gas tank that started the blaze. I was 7+ months pregnant and had my toddler daughter in the car with me. We all made it out, but when everyone saw the burned out wreck . . . they couldn't believe we made it out alive. I'm so glad that your friends are alright, too. CHEERS!
I watched that video because through watching y’all, I got hooked on the Travel Beans. Poor kids were SO scared…. I cried seeing how scared they were. Looks like their Go Fund Me is helping them quite nicely, and I’m sorry that the joint trip didn’t work out for y’all. I’m glad your taking the extra precautions as well. Looking forward to seeing your new adventures and those of the TBs. I’m also very close the Canyon Lake and know exactly where Frank met his demise… 🥺
Yes, definitely replace all soft fuel lines. Especially the short section at the fuel tank/float connection. Which you may not be able to easily inspect.
And on some van's, the connection between the fuel fill, and tank down tube, is sort of radiator style soft line. Those are notorious for rotting, especially with the newer fuel.
Carry minimum of 2 larger fire extinguishers type ABC.
And find a local place to be trained/practice use.
Pretend practice what you will do if a fire starts in the kitchen, electric, engine, propane.
Think/remember "PASS"
.
Pull the pin on the handle.
Aim at the base of the flames.
Squeeze the handle.
Sweeping motion across the flame base..
REMEMBER, no matter the size of the extinguisher, it only gives 5 to 10 SECONDS of poof!
So always have the second extinguisher ready, so someone getting it for you.
Lastly, always have your important paperwork in a fire safe (permanent installation secure hidden low).
AND leave a copy with someone you trust. Especially important if you are both incapacitated.

I have only ever seen those balls that explode when they detect fire, recommended once by a van lifer. I thought it was an awesome product and everyone should have it. It's something that has always scared me and most people only have a fire extinguisher often in a place hard to reach. You are wise to get a few.

I saw the Travel Beans video about the fire, it was absolutely crazy. Thankfully they didn't lose anything as they hadn't left full time yet but I feel so sorry for them. I hope they can continue with their plans soon and it wasn't too costly for them. Thank god their van was insured as they didn't mention that in the video and I was worried.
I love watching you two discover and learn and build upon your adventures. Sometimes it hurts watching you learn things the hard way that others have already tubed (don't search and spoil now). But no, your adventure and your personalities are why I'm a subscriber.

Second, the door is wonderful! Love that one better than the sweet custom made one tbh. You should be really proud of your RV! its really killer cool and nice! I know that there is always small details that you see when no one else can see them but give yourself a break now and relax and enjoy the RV life in a really cool vintage ride!
Third. Thank god you're taking fire safety in a RV seriously! Not only the fire and smoke detectors, but you need Cardon dioxide detectors as well! Make sure to get them! Let Frank be a lesson to you all :(

When traveling up the East Coast, it’s far better to get off 95 and take 58 toward Virginia Beach, then up the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, taking you through Virginia, Maryland, and the Delaware Beaches on the way back to Rt. 95. It’s a far more scenic and interesting drive than just going up 95 past Richmond, DC, and Baltimore. Stop in Ocean City MD and pick crabs and drink beer. Overnight at the Indian River inlet, where there’s a nice RV Park with amenities, and a wonderful restaurant on the beach.
The travel beans were so lucky. That video was terrifying I cried watching their dream literally go up in flames. Poor Emma was justifiably freaked out. Thank you for being there for them🙏. I'm sure you are both safe in Clementine. We are excited to travel along with you 😀 😊

Emma; "I felt like I was in a movie or something". Well, dear, you kind of were. While I'm sad for them to have lost Frank, I'm glad they are ok. Great you are nearly ready to go. That fire was horrific.. It turned into a ball of flames in such a short amount of time... Frightening. It will definitely take them some time for them to get over it and get the vision of Emma in the RV with flames around it out of their heads.
How scary! My sister once stopped her car, turned it off and got ready to pump gas. She went into the gas station to pay for the gas since it was before the pay at the pump. She left her toddler and his bestie in the locked car while she paid, keeping an eye on them snd the car through the window of the gas station when suddenly her car burst into flames. She ran like a cat to the car and got both kids out snd got out of harms way. I mean, right next to gas pumps is not the best place for a car fire. The car was a total loss but they were all safe. Turned out it was an issue with that Mitsubishi for that year. Electrical fire that just caused the entire car to become an inferno in a matter of a minute. Never heard of anything like that. It’s pretty rare. I’m glad your friends are safe. Take care. Be safe yourself.

Eric & Allison. I am glad Allison said you'll not just "touch the tip" but "go in deep"- to each state. If the map you showed is your final route, then perhaps considering weather conditions, you will have time to properly visit the best parts of Michigan & Wisconsin. In Michigan, where I live, I would HIGHLY recommend going up north along Lake Michigan to the Upper Peninsula.
So sorry about Frank and glad that the Beans were okay. Nice job on the doors. I like the bench but I would lop off the sharp corner closest to the door so it doesn’t hit you each time you come in.. It will give you more of your doorway back too. It will be fun to see what adjustments you make as you travel. For your route, I would follow the good weather. Start by making your way up to New England for late summer and fall, then head to Florida or the west coast for the winter months. The Midwest is best in fall or spring. It will be a grand adventure!

I’m on vacations at canyon lake and we were driving back from the river and saw where the beans van had burned. A picture or video doesn’t do it justice by how burnt the ground was. Glad they’re ok. (Love you guys btw! Been following since y’all started the rv renovation)
