I remember that my father often was bathing in the room next to mine, and I was playing SimCity 4. He always asked me to turn up the sound because he loved the music.
Imagine a man waking up in the morning, getting ready to work, smiling while looking around the city as he's driving to work, and at the same time a young boy hurries to school. This piece reminds me of the entire city waking up in the morning and becoming alive.
I love how from the comments basically we all imagine the same thing listening to this music. Time lapse. Change. Progress. A living city. Great work by the composer in managing to express that thru music so effectively.
I can just imagine it; a well-planned city finally reaching the population milestone for high-rise buildings, and you re-zone for high density. All of a sudden, everything disappears, and scaffolds and cranes ascend to new heights everywhere you look, heralding a glorious new era for your city. When it's all done, you look in admiration at your new array of gleaming skyscrapers, and are happy that you played the game.
Our band played this song last year at a concert. I knew I recognized the song, but I didn't know that it was in the sim city soundtrack! I've finally found it!
Eduardo Meli I don’t even remember posting this comment but I still got a notification from your reply. I haven’t thought about this game in years, yet I can still sing along. And now I’m nostalgic and sad.
This is a MASTERPIECE! Wow! This is an INCREDIBLE MASTERPIECE of classical music, hidden in the soundtrack of Sim City 4! What brilliant use of cross-rhythms!
I can't help but imagine my city being built, torn down, rebuilt, redesigned, people and cars flowing by, building rising and falling; all in silent fast forward
There are two truly great SimCity games. Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition. Sim City (SNES) Honourable mention goes to SimCity 2000 and 3000, where I got use to the whole 'zoning' concept all over again.
Build perfect industrial, residential and commercial zones, add a few parks, press speed up, this song makes it perfect to watch the city blossom at top speed.
One would have to play the game to understand how magical it feels to see your own infrastructure sprawl while this song is playing. To me, this song was always fitting for planning an expansion of the city, building more neighborhood areas, or just improving the place with more hospitals and schools and seeing the lovely skyline grow in front of your eyes while the music grows along with it. I'm so glad I got this game 3 years ago to experience it.
I always thought this sounded like many film scores (especially family/kids movies) from the 80s and 90s. It's even more nostalgic to me now for that reason :')
This is a fantastic title! I discovered this song by playing the Civ 4 mod "Rise of Mankind". Apparently the creator of this mod decided to reuse parts of the SimCity 4 soundtrack for his mod. Now that I've found the rest of this soundtrack I have to say this is one of the most awesome soundtracks ever made for a PC game. Some of this stuff is almost Beethoven-caliber. ;-)
I love this soundtrack so much because it’s just more John Adams music haha early Sims games were very minimalist American composer influenced, and that’s such a great thing
I can say this with certainty since I got 25+ years experience, here is some information about this song: Tempo: Around 160 BPM: Bar format: 6/8 with variations in 9/8. Key: G major. Style: Vivace. Instrumentation: Regular symphonic orchestra. One of my favorite songs from the game. Thanks for uploading it.
I always associate this song with building water infrastructure, because it always seems to play right when my city grows to a point where it needs water.
I miss the 90's too man. That was my growing up right there. 2010's suck. Too many fucking cell phones, too many lame ass shows, gas prices suck, people are snootier than ever before.. For some reason I associate the 90's as the summer paradise, and the late 2000's as the cold winter and bitter yuckyness.
Also it start in B Key and so cant shift to B from B. The Main theme is in B Clarinet theme is in B There is no shift to C or D or A It does move briefly to F and A minor during breaks between the B but that is not really a Key shift, just tonal movement in my opinion. I have verified this with piano during the song.
Am I only one who got scared when this started playing? I was like 8 or 9 and everytime this started playing or I heard the 3:17 part I'd change the song and sometimes not sleep for the night.
you can hear the cellos and bass in the backgrounds along with the bassons and its an oboe playing instead of clarinet orchestra and band i know the sounds
Does anyone know of any other music that have a sense of progression being made? This one is a perfect example and so is level 3 and 6 from the PS3 game Flower. It's really hard to find music that conveys that feeling of progression. :)
No? Have you listened to the full nutcracker? Not just the suite this is nothing like Tchaikovsky or even romantic time period. It is more minimalistic and has harmonic structures considered advanced for romantic period.
im simcity 4 it takes alot for of time for a city to develop, of course you fast forward all the way through, but the last city i did was ready on 2098 and it wasn't that big deal
@JSSJR90 to be fair, if Maxis had any sense, theyd wait until the majority of the market had access to computers with 8GB of RAM or more. SimCity4 with expansions/addons really requires at least 4GB to get a good gaming experience. If they released SimCity5 now it wouldnt be making the most of rapidly evolving processing technology. If a sequel is released, i hope it's not just yet. Maxis know the potential of their game but it can't be fully appreciated with the computers we have today.
@sincityfire Okay, so it would be under Maxis > Sim City 4 > Radio > Stations > Mayor > Music, and it should be there. I think this song might be on Rush Hour though, so you may not have it if you don't have Rush Hour.
I remember that my father often was bathing in the room next to mine, and I was playing SimCity 4. He always asked me to turn up the sound because he loved the music.
What a brilliant memory.
My brother and dad liked the soundtrack to SC4 and 3000 too.
This reminds me of the "we've got bigger speakers downstairs" meme
This soundtrack is one of the reasons why I'm studyng civil engineering. Yes, really.
Did you graduate
Yeah what are you doing right now

Right!
This song kind of gives what I'd call an energetic urgency of sorts, but in a good way. If that makes any sense at all.
I picture that too, especially when this song would play during sunrise in the game 🥹
One of the greatest video game tracks ever. If you played this in city halls across the country, great things would be accomplished.
I love how from the comments basically we all imagine the same thing listening to this music. Time lapse. Change. Progress. A living city. Great work by the composer in managing to express that thru music so effectively.
Same bro. I even watch time lapses of real life cities with this music to feel the sim city 4 sensation
well put! the frantic obsession of perfection, the attempt to tame the untamable, and indeed the yearning of expansion comes my to mind.
I can just imagine it; a well-planned city finally reaching the population milestone for high-rise buildings, and you re-zone for high density. All of a sudden, everything disappears, and scaffolds and cranes ascend to new heights everywhere you look, heralding a glorious new era for your city. Ahh gentrification.
@Albert- John Freeman - god seen the work he had done and then said " it is good" .
The game was satifying inc the expantion packs.
Our band played this song last year at a concert. I knew I recognized the song, but I didn't know that it was in the sim city soundtrack! I've finally found it!
was it at school? if so, did your teacher enjoy this game
@@geggy310 I'd love to know too 😅
How can I remember all these songs so well?
SAME!!! I can sing along, yet the last time I played I was like 10 years old!!!!!
job place playing this game as a child is why I like micromanaging so much. God the memories
Simply, you had a beautiful childhood playing this!
Your comment is 4 years old and i can still relate. This game really left its mark on all of us kids who played it and enjoyed it.

This is truly a beauty. The feels I'm getting.
Whoever you are, Dmitri S, thank you.
I see autumn colors when I hear this song. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
The flute kicking in at 4:00 coupled with the background rhythm is fantastic.
This piece is SO underrated. Truly genius. If only video game soundtracks were given the attention it deserves.
Best soundtrack of SimCity 4!!!!

DaLatinKnight I build! I burn! I BUILD AGAIN!
There is something so uplifting and inspirational about this song, unlike many other Simcity songs which are very melancholy.
This has a very almost magical vibe to it. Great piece.
Definitely one of my favorite SimCity songs... This one really reminds me of Morrowind music as well with the strings and flute.
Nostalgia.

Yes, it reminds me of I believe his name was John Horner. He did some Universal movies. The horns remond me of it specifically.
@@capedluna Ah, James Horner! So sad we lost him almost a decade ago :(
Has a certain minimalist al la John Adams feel to it
I loved to summon meteors to my city, this usually played in the background. 8-year old me has so many nightmares related to this song after all that.

With you there... Technically Sim City Societies is the 5th variety of Sim City... but still we need something on a grand scale!
I don't know why but this music always makes me feel like the Christmas season in city.
Been playing in my head for the past couple of days even though I haven't played the game in a long long time!!
I can see myself being more productive while listening to this.
Title is very fitting for the music, it really does make you think of wheels of progress. Great thinking music.
sim city music is art itself
Sounds like this belongs in a school time lapse.
When I hear this song, I think about Will Wright's trajectory and how fantastic he is.

No one cares. Just enjoy the music
Wow. Very beautiful.

This song reminds me of late 1800s London and the city bustle.

this music is when you build your city up, people start moving in, commercial districts set up, and your city get busy/busier.
I’ve always thought that the violins symbolized the titular wheels, like a train chugging through time.
when i hear this music,it inspires me to build more
Why does this song remind me of a play, beautiful song!!!
i play this whenever im doing an essay helps me think and progress
I love this song!

This soundtrack is so cute !
😆
I gotta say that some of Jerry Martins compositions in Simcity 3 & 4 remind me very much of some of Steve Reich's works.
this songs belongs in a movie. an epic one too. this guy Martin if he is not already should be composing scores for films.
I always thought this song sounded just like a ton of film scores from the 80s and 90s!
