Back when commuting into work was a thing, I would try to start the track Rush Hour so that my city's skyline came into view around a bend right when the drums hit 30 seconds in. Talk about a positive energy boost for the day! This was the magic music that made my morning move
This song always played whenever my city exceeded about the population of 65,000, and when the entire map would have population pooling into it, and highways went through my city
Omgg. I was between 8 and 12 yo when I played simscity 4 (definitely too young to understand shit) and now I have goosebumps realising you are right. And happy because, nonetheless i heard it a lot 💖
The saxophonist is Marc Russo. He is extremely talented, and has played with funk band Tower of Power and jazz fusion band Yellowjackets. Maxis was lucky to have this guy playing for them on this soundtrack!
THE WHEELS OF PROGRESS TURN SLOWLY BUT FINELY! First town that I made to break a million had this playing when the population ticker went from 999,982 to 1,000,178. That was 2008. Feels good man.
Portal 2, FTL (and about 80% other indie games), Skyrim, Torchlight, maybe even South Park: The Stick of Truth. Soundtracks are pretty good even today. ;)
I remember the late nights staying up playing this game as a kid. When my imagination could run wild. Something about city planning and infrastructure was so cool to my young mind. And then my dad brought me into NYC for the first time. And I could see the massive urban landscape for myself. It was astounding. But now life is so overwhelming. And it’s hard to bring back those memories. When the only things that mattered were the events occurring right before my eyes. And now it’s all so cluttered with the worries of the past and future. It’s impossible to admire things as I did when I was a child. I miss that. I want to go back. That’s how this song makes me feel.
Whenever I have to drive my car through a big city I put this on, it's the perfect soundtrack for being surrounded by skyscrapers and Urban hustle and bustle.
Such an awesome original game score, still remembered this playing in the middle of the game. Got you excited before your city eventually went bankrupt for no reason after 2 hour gameplay haha
This one is great for free-driving in a sports car, cruising down through the dealerships and shopping malls you've zoned, on a six-lane avenue that you personally laid down.
crash cymbal: oh boy don't mind me i love being a crash- oh, hey there, mister drummer! what's- drummer: it is time crash cymbal: for? drummer: rush hour crash cymbal: crash cymbal: drummer no drummer: drummer YES
Best bit of sim city 4 for me is listening to one of its many really good songs while the road work gang are laying new roads. So much attention to detail.
When Maxis disappeared, so did the quality of games. When this much detail and attention is put into something as simple as the soundtrack, just like in the early sims games, it shows people that cared and took pride in their work. Unfortunately the EA money machine takes over and quality is replaced with quantity and it shows. Just look at the difference between Sims 3 and 4... exactly, there are none, oh wait you can go online and interact with female Sims who are actually just creepy fat men in their underwear eating cheetos. God i miss my childhood SOOOOOOOOO much.
+aaron frost (Aaron4Ever) um yeah don't think I said any of that. I said EA is more about the quantity and $ aspect than quality. and obviously you don't have to read all my comments. which is probably wise for you since you apparently can't read
I wouldn't have made the connection to the Fallout soundtrack without reading your comment, but I definitely agree. I think I know the sound you're talking about. Almost sounds like wind howling? Mark Morgan used so much atmospheric sound effects in his tracks that sound similar.
you know simcity has just mindfucked me.... usually you find songs like this and epicenter once a year or two songs you really cant hate.... yet they've managed to make nearly every single one of their songs a musical marvel.
wait just saying guys..... in case if someone is trying to say plagiarism or something... you know this song came WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY before 21pilots... right? and honestly only thing same is the drum loop and foley...
Best song of this game. It is very reminiscent of a song in Sim City 2000 that had similar sound - track name Railroad Rap. Same feeling. Love both, though. This is like a remix, updated version of it to me.
I used to skip school a lot when I was around 17-18 years young (dumb move). But I got to experience a few great games because of it. Like this one. When I was at the store the choice was between this and SSX Tricky. WHen I found out what SSX was, I regretted not buying Tricky too. But had a great time with SImCity too. Also got to experience Suikoden 5 because of skipping school XD S5 is the best game I've played.
+Ben Jenkins Sim City 4 is in steam, but it doesn't work properly on most modern computers, so if you guys buy it on steam, you should also get a SimCity4 launcher, which allows you to launch it with appropriate settings so the graphics won't freak out. Also, a Traffic Simulator rocks, too.
MAYOR ROCKS ACCORDING TO CITY BLOCKS
+Robert Dole BAHAHAHHHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHHHHHHAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHHA
+Robert Dole lol I loved it when you entered the "dollyllama" cheat and all of your advisors turned to llama's.. It was the best!!
+Robert Dole Remember to stay hydrated :3
CITY CLAIMS MAYOR IS PRINCE OF DARKNESS
MAYOR BEATIN UP AND DOWN YO BLOCK
Everytime this music was playing, doctors were striking
Aaaw yeaa
or the teachers rioting outside the schools
due to COVID-03
RA RA RA!!! RA RA RA!!
The advisors are so mad right now
I zoned like an absolute madman every time this song came on.
Andrew haha fuck yeah-we ALL did.
chad behavior
That sax part is just MAGNIFICENT
Do you know any songs with Sax parts like in this soundtrack? I want to find something similar. I'm in love with this.
So is the drum "part" 🤘
the subtle piano is underrated as hell
this song goes so much harder than it has any right to and I LOVE IT
Found the bun comment
feels like kinda backhanded, simcity 4 was a great game deserving of a great song, not some dud with a good soundtrack
Marc Russo, alto sax. One hell of a performance.
Back when commuting into work was a thing, I would try to start the track Rush Hour so that my city's skyline came into view around a bend right when the drums hit 30 seconds in. Talk about a positive energy boost for the day! This was the magic music that made my morning move
That's so wholesome
I though i was the only one that did this kind of thing
This is such a late 90s/early 2000s sound!
+Andrew Grigorian - Haha indeed! I miss those times :(
+Sebizzar That sure ^^ The game was create in 2003 ;)
It reminds me of a opening to a cop themed show in those eras,
Reminds me of half life games
Gives me William Orbit vibes
Is it me or does this song always plays when your City is doing well and developping?
I think it's set to play when everything is going well, I remember that when my indicators were positive this song popped more frequently...
On the SimCity iPad game, this played after my town was flattened by multiple disasters.
This played a lot when there was some sort of mess- financial, traffic, strikes. Think I actually sweat while I was in the red.
This song always played whenever my city exceeded about the population of 65,000, and when the entire map would have population pooling into it, and highways went through my city
Omgg.

a prime example of how the ost of a game can make a game so memorable
The saxophonist is Marc Russo. He is extremely talented, and has played with funk band Tower of Power and jazz fusion band Yellowjackets. Maxis was lucky to have this guy playing for them on this soundtrack!
As a ToP fan I did not know this, but that is not surprising in the slightest seeing how great their horn section has always been
I freaking love this song! Then ending part the sax just goes insane!
Incredible performance!
When I think of crazy sax solo I always think of Sim City 4
You guys want a good sax solo? Listen to Baker Street (Geoffrey Rafferty)
@@CMT1995 GTA 5 🎮😎
@@CMT1995 *Gerry
I've always loved how loud and bombastic the drums were. And that saxophone solo? Insane.
I think I'm gonna go to Office Depot and buy this just for the soundtrack. I might play it a little while I'm listening though...
@s1mple What makes him so distinguished?
I file building permits in New York City, sometimes when I’m grinding through paperwork I put this on and feel like I’m playing sim city in real life
full circle!
THE WHEELS OF PROGRESS TURN SLOWLY BUT FINELY! First town that I made to break a million had this playing when the population ticker went from 999,982 to 1,000,178. That was 2008.
Feels good man.
Replying for a throwback
The final sax jam is totally amazing!!!
This song has an excellent groove, and I absolutely love when the saxophone splooges all over it. I'd say this is my favorite from the game.
Back when games could be described as having a "good soundtrack". This game had one of the best ever!
Portal 2, FTL (and about 80% other indie games), Skyrim, Torchlight, maybe even South Park: The Stick of Truth. Soundtracks are pretty good even today. ;)
And Supreme Commander - Awesome soundtrack.
the new pokemon games have some pretty good tracks, along with some not so good ones
dont forget about Donkey kong country 2 and Donkey kong country tropial freeze, every song is beautiful
Ori and the blind forest, VA-11.HALL-A, Outer WIlds, DOS 2, Rimworld...
I remember the late nights staying up playing this game as a kid. When my imagination could run wild. Something about city planning and infrastructure was so cool to my young mind. Whenever I have to drive my car through a big city I put this on, it's the perfect soundtrack for being surrounded by skyscrapers and Urban hustle and bustle.
After the eerie intro bit, it sounds like a mix between The futurama intro, the old Sim City 2000 intro with a good spicing of jazz in the mix.
this song playing and you driving around with train/bus/taxi in Simcity 4 in the morning rush
Rush Hour and Oasis are definetly my favourite songs from SC4. So many good memories.
Love the little hints to Sim City 2000 in this one.
Such an awesome original game score, still remembered this playing in the middle of the game. Got you excited before your city eventually went bankrupt for no reason after 2 hour gameplay haha
The level of energy that soundtrack has is absolutely fantastic
Fills me with energy. One of my favourite soundtracks in the game.
God that sax always scares the shit out of me
Supersmurf the sax is the sexiest thing ever. i cant believe you!
This one is great for free-driving in a sports car, cruising down through the dealerships and shopping malls you've zoned, on a six-lane avenue that you personally laid down.
One of the best game Soundtracks EVER. This is a masterpiece.
Bought the game December 22nd 2017, I'm having so much fun, it's like I returned 10 years back!
Love the fact that the DLC that includes this masterpiece is named after it and also it box art really resample this❤
crash cymbal: oh boy don't mind me i love being a crash- oh, hey there, mister drummer! what's-
drummer: it is time
crash cymbal: for?
drummer: rush hour
crash cymbal:
crash cymbal: drummer no
drummer: drummer YES
The drum solos really perfect this song!
The beginning of this song sounds a bit like "Diabolical Adrenaline Guitar" from Half-Life.
DSCHMinecraft It does. The beginning sounds like the loading from Starcraft 2 multiplayer matches.
+DSCHMinecraft Also like Twenty one pilots - HeavyDirtySoul
Played this through the air boat levels in hl2
a little bit
Don't shoot im with the mayor's team
such a great morning song

Alright, we get the point, EA are sexist perverts, there's no need to copy-paste the exact same comment into each and every video.
+aaron frost (Aaron4Ever) um yeah don't think I said any of that. I said EA is more about the quantity and $ aspect than quality. and obviously you don't have to read all my comments. which is probably wise for you since you apparently can't read
000000111 If I can't read, then why am I replying to this comment in perfect English?
This song has quite a few sick saxophone solos! So good!
That sax is totally out of control and I find myself loving it :-)
WHO MADE THIS? WHAT A LEGEND.
This song has serious Fallout 2 vibes to me but a lot more busy and action packed, the startup to the track is amazing and really fits the vibe.
I wouldn't have made the connection to the Fallout soundtrack without reading your comment, but I definitely agree. I think I know the sound you're talking about. Almost sounds like wind howling? Mark Morgan used so much atmospheric sound effects in his tracks that sound similar.
since i was a drummer myself years ago i will tell you this...drums and saxophone best pals! hehe
This piece is literally perfect for timelapses. Try it. Just put a video of a timelapse and play this in the background, it's just perfect
Tellement de souvenirs 😳
Ah... Those drums.
'tip tip ti-ti tip... tip tip ti-ti tip.... TAP TAP TA-TA TAP!'
Am I the only one who's reminded of the Futurama theme song by this?
That sax though. Amazing!
YO, I'VE HEARD THIS SOUND FROM THE BEGINNING IN CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2 (song name: Waveoff, timecode: 1:30)
This was the best of all the Sim City games made. That new hunk of shit can go burn.
Awesome song, awesome game. Also, i love the abstract 'drug trip' like intro.
masterpiece
wow, memories are flooding back to me
you know simcity has just mindfucked me.... usually you find songs like this and epicenter once a year or two songs you really cant hate.... yet they've managed to make nearly every single one of their songs a musical marvel.
Dat sax though...
I have this on my ipod now. I like listening to it while driving on the freeway at night.
What an absolutley fucking sick jam this is...
wait just saying guys..... in case if someone is trying to say plagiarism or something... you know this song came WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY before 21pilots... right? and honestly only thing same is the drum loop and foley...
I love this music. Thank you !!
Que des musiques énormes chez Simcity 4... :)
the sim city 4 songs are the best city building and chill songs ive heard
this is like doing your life (subway, bus, work, studing) but in time lapse !
By far the best Sim City Song ever! So much Roll n Roll with Jazz
This is good to listen while you play Simcopter
I love driving trough the Downtown while listening to this.
Never played the game but I absolutely love this soundtrack!
Best song of this game. It is very reminiscent of a song in Sim City 2000 that had similar sound - track name Railroad Rap. Same feeling. Love both, though. This is like a remix, updated version of it to me.
Sim City 3000, Sim City 4 and Sim City Societies were the games with the best soundtracks ever
Wow. Very beautiful.
I see this as the unofficial theme song to sim city the most memorable song of playing sim city 2000 on the mac
Hell yah!
Nostalgia zone.
2:04 That solo though
Omg every time this song came on in simcity I would get so hyped
Let's go !!!
hear this sometimes when i'm heading to my workplace at city centre
Surely Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun were played SimCity
lol the beginning sounds a lot like Heavydirtysoul
best song in that game, in my opinion. Reminds you of how beautiful, yet chaotic, our current state of civilization is.
STILL GREAT IN 3024
I remember playing air battery as my first skyscrapers grew.
When this song is playing, i suddenly feel the urge to drive in my car car around the city and placing subways as a BOSS.
I still play this game! And finally got some Towers to grow XD
HeavyDirtySoul anyone?
LOOL
Yep
S
The first few seconds almost sound like the beginning of a 009 Sound System song used on old TH-cam videos.
This sounds like heavydirtysoul by twenty one pilots
Justin Johnson yees
Justin Johnson Yeeeeeeep
Justin Johnson +
I am sh00k
K but this song was first so... Heavydirtysoul sounds like Rush Hour!
Also got to experience Suikoden 5 because of skipping school XD
S5 is the best game I've played.
CAN YOU SAVE
CAN YOU SAVE MY
CAN YOU SAVE MY HEAVYDIRTYSOUL
I cant stop tapping my foot on this song!
this slaps
*H A R D*
I always think of this song being in the Rush Hour expansion pack for SimCity 4
Actually weirdly reminds me of Virtua Tennis for DC. I was obsessed with that game.
I remember hearing this while playing on my dads old windows 7 laptop
"can you save, can you save my, can you save my heavydirtysoul?!"
This is so much heavy dirty soul from tøp
I love the soundtrack for this game
That is exactly how I feel when this little tune plays.
Dude, you can breakdance to this!
the greatest city build game
Simcity 4 rush hour
HEAVYDIRTYSOULLL hueahueh
캐피탈리즘호!!!!
+Ben Jenkins
