thanks to this game I grew mentally as an engineer, the finances, the charts, the statistics are just perfect, the administration concepts I mastered because of this game, I must've listened to this theme a million times without getting weary, all the hours of my childhood I spent playing this masterpiece, I just can say: fucking worth it.
Maxis consulted heavily with industry experts: city planners, civil engineers, etc. when they made this particular title. It might as well be an early training tool for those professions.
Whenever I hear this song, I think of an ideal morning drive through a rural/agricultural area or seacoast. Just you and the beautiful scenery, hardly another car in sight; no gridlock.
I've had to learn actual urban planning concepts to even begin to play this game, and it was so worth it. At the start I just put out large zones of high density residential areas, got excited about some development, but eventually the city became congested, and slums started appearing, and my city went bankrupt. After a while I finally learned concepts like zoning and started planning out road systems, putting down lifelines, and designed the city that I wanted to see. I got so excited to finally see some fancy commercial buildings and high tech firms in the city center compared to factories, foundries, and congested roads lol.
Ha! I got this game in 2003,...I played it non-stop for days,.....went without food and water. The sound track was burned into my brain,.....I lost touch with reality,....everywhere I looked , outside my house, resembled SimCity,.....the same streets, the same housing. I still play it every once and a while, even in 2022.
Amazing music for an amazing game. I remember during one particular pensive part of my life I was walking the forests up the mountain behind my childhood home. As this song came on I came out of the trees and it started snowing, I had a view of the entire valley with this song playing and the snow falling and it was perfect.
it was wierd this morning. i kept waking up with this song in my head. then, going back to sleep and waking up again with this song in my head. great song.
Best music ever, building cites like a boss. Such a shame sim city (the new one) sucked so much! Would love a Sim City jsut like 4 with improved graphics, gameplay, interface and not based on a grid!
That song is so beautiful, if you close your eyes and listen to it, it will make one to feel like it floating in the room, taking one outside the limits... Such a breath-taking feeling.. A bit horrifying but still very harmony.. :)
The music for this game and 3000 is great. I actually encountered this specific song in a Today Show video (Ann takes a turn in spontaneous musical, for those who are interested, it appearing at the 31 second mark. I love this music, so that was a welcome surprise for me. Jerry Martin is a genius, and his music is what ambrosia is to food.
Jb Barelli -- this definitely has a very Thomas Newman sound to it. The song in the opening scene of American Beauty (with the flyover) ("Dead Already") reminds me a lot of this track.
i like it when this track starts up, somehow makes me feel like i'm playing SimCity 3000, it kinda links to two games together. maybe i'm just being weird :S
I do recall this was the second game in the simcity series to be published by EA. and this is the hardest installment in the whole series, it will take months, in real time, to make the city of your dreams, Is it worth it? well. you bought the game for the reason of making a city, so. YES IT FUCKING IS WORTH IT.
@Phygar1 Also, paying attention to how smart the zones become. It is KEY! A green zone will indicate the area is smart, and that is when high technology industrial companies will build amongst the area with green. However, you are correct. They need all of those things to be satisfied. Also, a lot of parks. Cities function the best when pollution is LOW! So that is a must! Low pollution! Good luck everybody. No cheating!
+Joseph Stalin If you build your city primarily on one ways and avenues invest heavily in transit and ensure that Mass Rapid Transit runs halfway decently then you can have no grid lock
Relaxing song yes... But I noticed every time I get in financial trouble or there's a fire or anything bad, this song pops up with my financial adviser yelling at me. Why? Why is SimGod punishing me? Then I have to dispatch fire trucks or demolish a mall... It's quite tiring. But then sometimes, when I'm playing my farmland city, it's quite relaxing and lets me know it's just a small town, I won't get in financial trouble or there won't be any fires :D
@shoplifting1is1fun The key is to ignore the advisors, rofl. You don't need anything but zoning to make money. Everything else helps, though. Make water once you can afford it, make fire once you can afford it, make your first shitty school once you can afford, make better schools and other stuff when u can afford, etc...

That was inspirational comment. That game actually made an impact on your life.

I'm also pursuing a career in urban planning/landscape architecture, and this game definitely helped me to become interested in it
🤝
Engineers = 💩 overpaid carpenters

I LITERALLY SPENT ONE HOUR SCOURING TH-cam FOR THIS TRACK THAT I REMEMBERED FROM YEARS AGO. I DONT REGRET IT

it was wierd this morning. i kept waking up with this song in my head. then, going back to sleep and waking up again with this song in my head. great song.
13 years later, does it still come into your head at times?
Every time I put this song on i can feel my eyes start to relax and drift to a meditative place. Definitely needing it right about now...
Aaaannd then another one of these songs, when you think it cant get better, then FUCKING BAM! 3:36
Those fukken piano basses! 👌🏻😭
I see cloudy days when I hear this song...
Beautiful music ! One of my favorite of this game.
The thing I love about this soundtrack is it can use the simplest chords and it still sounds atmospheric and inspired.
I just got this game. and yesterday, I lived up to my name and played for at least 10 hours. Holy crap, so much fun.
this song : the petition fr tha mayor house has been accepted :D
Omg.... it made me cry of happinness
Did you name your city "shitposting"
Best music ever, building cites like a boss. Such a shame sim city (the new one) sucked so much! Would love a Sim City jsut like 4 with improved graphics, gameplay, interface and not based on a grid!
Maybe city skylines, if you have not heard of it since this comment 6 years ago
back when games were made with love
Wow. Very beautiful.
This particular track was composed by Jerry Martin. He's a great compositor for games music. You should check him out ;)
This track is one of my faves from the OST :D I'm so glad you uploaded it!
+TwistedMelody87 It's one of my favs too :-)
Gosh, I f*cking love this game, and this song, and all the music in this game

Now 145,129
Wonderful track
chord progression is out of this world
remember playing this game lots 6-7 years ago miss it but this piece brings back the memories
Having trouble falling asleep? put this tune on and drift away in a slumber where you are soaring over your city watching the cranes build.
0:00 to 7:49 is where I TRULY love the song!
That song is so beautiful, if you close your eyes and listen to it, it will make one to feel like it floating in the room, taking one outside the limits... Such a breath-taking feeling.. A bit horrifying but still very harmony.. :)
That's so nice! All these Sim City songs remind me my childhood and my teenage.
everytime i go bankrupt this song comes on, well atleast its a good song
10 years later and I still play this game like it's the last of the series.
It's been a long time my childhood.
I put the whole sound track on my Zune and listen to it when I'm riding the bus into downtown Pittsburgh. It's a magical feeling.
What’s a Zune?
@SilverAura: That has to be pretty awesome, thinking back to the history of Pittsburgh. From a small town, to one of the largest cities in America.
@@TangoVictorSierra A Zune is a Microsoft version of the Apple iPod, but the Zune failed.
Such a marvelous song. It makes me to concentrate much more when Im listening to it :)
Amazing song, love the piano, if anyones interested the main chord progression is Bm C#m D E
Sounds like a Steve Reich piece
So good...
melody is so good :) great melody...

luv dis song
Why does this not have more views?!?!
Thanks for uploading! It's a great song!
this is the best track on the game, especially for the building chorus.
7 people dislike because they cant play the piano intro
Those 7 people can't reach a 50k population city.
Those 11 haters got kicked from position.
@@JinnYoungKim And lost their bid for Senator
There is something of American Beauty in it
Jb Barelli -- this definitely has a very Thomas Newman sound to it. The song in the opening scene of American Beauty (with the flyover) ("Dead Already") reminds me a lot of this track.
I immediately heard it too
Everytime I hear "Lunch With The King" I think of SC4
huh, this one is good. It's like bumper to bumper but without the odd jarring surprises.
The whole playlist is good, just mentioning that.
so relaxing.. just what i need atm :)
nice memories from my childhood: (
yep :(
certified hood classic
6:07 is were I TRULY love the song
Like a building music from Sims 1.
i like it when this track starts up, somehow makes me feel like i'm playing SimCity 3000, it kinda links to two games together. maybe i'm just being weird :S
Just one word: Classic.

@Colakills I think the vibes are my favourite things in this track!
driving a pleasure in -blank- city!
I love sim city's soundtrack
I do recall this was the second game in the simcity series to be published by EA.

This would fit on an episode of House
incredible!

Wonderful
@Simsfanguy Not only on your city, but also on your homework =D Great music!
this doesn't feel like a simcity 4 song, more like simcity 3000
It was probably the closest track to 3000 :)
sadly my disks no longer work /:
But I think simcity 4 is still on the shops in shopko..I KNOW WHAT I'm BUYING TOMORROW.
What's interesting is that Shopko is now also gone.
Yeah... The moment someone says "no dislikes!" a troll comes a long...
I know that feel.
very minimalistic, probably inspired by music of Steve Reich
could leave a link to download the music play
"Bob Newbie says commute is like a Sunday drive."
@Colakills you just described the entire sim city soundtrack
Does anyone where to get sheet music for this song?
No grid lock, like that'll ever happen.
+Joseph Stalin If you build your city primarily on one ways and avenues invest heavily in transit and ensure that Mass Rapid Transit runs halfway decently then you can have no grid lock
thr433 You sound like Gorgy
+Joseph Stalin GorgyÉ
thr433 Yeeeeeeeeeeee
+Joseph Stalin who is he?
Why do I always put on the CD in the CD-Disk if it reminds me the old memories of the game?

Plop.
Mozart would be proud
Two more have come along...
JAJAJAJA bravo !!!!
Sounds like Divine Beast Breath of the Wild Music..........................with serious mechanical problems.

@accfchannel I was thinking the same thing.
