This game has the immense honor in me for allowing my first victory against my father. I was like 10 or 12. He was atreides, I was harkonnen. I used the gunships (not the platform ones, the omnithopter equivalents!) to raid his base. He struck back in the next game but damn! it felt so good!
damn that takes me back.. Mine was in the first Battle for Middle-Earth game. My dad's a big Rohan fan, I never managed to beat him. Not as Rohan, not as Gondor, not as Mordor.. but then one time I played as Isengard (..big surprise, Isengard having counters for Rohan. Smoll me just never realized). Kept the main force back just out of reach, and when my dad came in for what would usually be the finishing blow on my base, brought out the "reservers" and sent him into a retreat. I dont even know if that match ended in a victory for me or not, but that little victory alone will forever remain etched in my memory

Witnessing your harkonnen troops storming across the battlefield for a surprise rush attack while the enemy harvester gets eaten by a sandworm and this music plays in the background truly makes for an unique feel and gaming experience I haven't seen since. It's almost poetic.
This is with out a doubt my all time favorite song from any game, David Arkenstone is a fucking genius. It is a crying shame that few games these days have sound tracks on par with what they had when Emperor came out.
David's rendition of the Harkonnen was so spot on, the music itself was more passionate and inspired than the game itself could ever wish to be. Well done!

I'd build a shitload of those and rush the enemy with them, who was too slow to react. Loved the variety of Harkonnen units, but the davastator was total shit. Who the fuck thought of making the strongest unit in the game so slow that it's simply useless in battle?

It's times like this that I wished that my copy of Emperor: Battle For Dune still worked. Because the soundtrack was fantastic, and the gameplay was a great translation of Westwood RTS into the Dune universe, with a fresh coat of paint and the fantastic sub-house mechanic

+Kwisatz Haderach The game simply wasn't designed for those operating systems. Windows XP was 32-bit, but anything past Windows 7 is 64-bit. I can't get it to run either, even with a new copy and a computer that runs XP (computer is so old that it doesn't work anymore) :(
It is litterally hard to believe, that Westwood put so damn much effort in a game IN 2001! Absolute awesome live action cut-scenes, a hands down killer-ost... and the gameplay itself was, IS, also awesome. Last time i touched this game, was over an decade ago. The Soundtrack though... i have it on my phone, in my car... it is glorious!

After 17 years of listening to this song, I just realized today that the drum loop used in this song is the same drum loop used in the main theme of the Batman Beyond series.
Even though I prefer the Atreides "lore wise" so to speak, this song is by far the highlight of the entire soundtrack of the game. Absolutely magnificent! Every nuance and every variation of the melodies just gives me goose bumps!
When I listen to this track , I feel like a lone pilot of a Devastator unit, searching for the Atreides. In the very moment I find them I unleash hell upon them , decimating their ranks , annihilating their troops with a final ''For the Harkonen" and I self destruct, taking them with me.

If I could make a sequel to this game, it would hybridize the David Lynch and Denis Villeneuve aesthetic for the game. I would basically pit Houses Atreides and Harkonnen against each other, with a resurgent House Corrino replacing House Ordos (the explanation being that the Corrinos destroyed the Ordos to get revenge for the Ordos killing Emperor Frederick). The sub factions would be: 1. The Fremen 2. The Ixians 3. The Bene Tlielax 4. The Remnants of House Ordos 5. The Smuggler’s Guild
I'm talking from personal experience. Personally, whenever I had to defend my base against an onslaught of computer opponents, the Minotaur always dealt huge amounts of monetary damage compared to their original cost. And I almost never lost minotaurs to worms. Maybe I was lucky? I always lost my Devastators within 5 seconds of sending more than two out at a time. I actually tested that theory out a few times, much to the unhappiness of my troops I bet!

Arkenstone is a genius, he composed music for new age stuff, he can do all kinds of music = classical, new age, metal, rock. He also composed Atlantis album, well worth to check, with all kinds of tracks.
I'm 16 and began playing the game when I was seven. Throughout my experience in the game I found that the easiest faction to play as overall was the Atredies, not only because their prices were pretty balanced out, but their units had too much punch for their low costs. The most difficult faction to grasp hold of in my opinion was the Ordos, however when played properly they were the best one there was. Harkonnen was good but in the end I felt like I was killing myself by sending in fodder.
E: BfD is legitimately the first(and I guess the only?) C&C/Westwood RTS game that not only featured an entire 2/3 of soundtrack NOT done by Frank Klepacki, but also one of those two soundtracks(Harkonnen one) actually even being kinda superior to Frank's(Atreides one).
I took down most of an Atredies army with a Harkonnen aligned Sardaukar officer once :3 I told a friend, also a fan of Dune, and he said thats quite realistic.

Arkenstone is a genius, he composed music for new age stuff, he can do all kinds of music = classical, new age, metal, rock. He also composed Atlantis album, well worth to check, with all kinds of tracks.

I'm 16 and began playing the game when I was seven. Throughout my experience in the game I found that the easiest faction to play as overall was the Atredies, not only because their prices were pretty balanced out, but their units had too much punch for their low costs. The most difficult faction to grasp hold of in my opinion was the Ordos, however when played properly they were the best one there was. Harkonnen was good but in the end I felt like I was killing myself by sending in fodder.

E: BfD is legitimately the first(and I guess the only?) C&C/Westwood RTS game that not only featured an entire 2/3 of soundtrack NOT done by Frank Klepacki, but also one of those two soundtracks(Harkonnen one) actually even being kinda superior to Frank's(Atreides one).
