People may debate but we all agree that the Harkonnen soundtrack for this game stuck out above the gameplay itself almost as if the sound designer did not care what he was getting payed, he just wanted to make a kickass soundtrack...and he did, it stole the fucking show.
It was in 2004. I was 9 yo playing this game. Fast forward 20 years later I am still hum this soundtrack out of nowhere when I was bored. I'm not even a metal fan. This Harkonnen soundtrack is simply too good. WAY too good.
There could be no better choice than groove metal to represent the spirit of Harkonnen. Re! Spect! Walk! What did you say?! Re! Spect! Walk! Are you talking to me?!!
I can't listen to this song without imagining the Harkonnen troops marching slowly. Rows and rows of troopers and tanks advancing menacingly while aircraft and carryalls soar the sky above. A red and black sky while they leave a ruined city behind. Man, I would love to recreate that image. Feels appropriate to a house so committed to death and cruelty.
I would love to make a sequel to this game. The only thing I would change is that House Ordos would be replaced by a resurgent House Corrino (the tutorial mission would be the Corrino forces assaulting the Ordos homeworld, in revenge for their murder of the Emperor). The sub factions would be the Fremen, the Ordos remnants, the Ixians, the Tlielaxu, and the Smugglers.
The bull isn't actually the symbol of House Harkonnen outside of the games. In the novel, it's explained that Duke Leto's father was killed by a bull, so Leto slaughtered it and mounted its head. Among other things, the bull represents a portent of death.
To think that this was composed by the same guy who did the WoW Tavern Music (as well as a crapton of other lighthearted, new agey music) just boggles the mind.
Yeah, the composer is David Arkenstone. He was at Blizzcon 2018, performed life on stage. TAVERN MUSIC. Can't believe the range of talent that guy has. I personally prefer this dark brutal industrial though. Wish he'd do more.
You simply cannot listen to any Harkonnen song in the game without headbanging so hard your head falls off. There is nothing more epic than David Arkenstone's work for Battle for Dune.
Unlike the other sighns, house harconnen has the best one, it looks at you no matter where you look at it from, reminds you of the terrifying power that wears it into battle proudly, the Harconnen strike with unmatchable strength cause they are the only ones who go into everything head on. No Surrender!!
Despite being evil bastards, I must admit that theme easily makes up for it. It pump me up, makes me want to put on a power armor and just fuck up everything that stands in my way.
***** It's hard to tell honestly, I haven't read all of the books. But that's what great about them, there's no good or evil, each sides do what they must to ensure their house remains the strongest one. But each employs different tactics.
Sadaukar are the most epic, get Sadaukar troops and Harkonnen tanks marching to this music while your playing to the game.. Amazing, fucking unstoppable,no surrender, death before dishonor and take no prisoners.
You're right about Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson but it is mentioned in the original book that the symbol of house Harkonnen was a griffon and that their colour was blue, whereas the Atreides symbol was a hawk...but their colours were green and black; but the reds are always the bad guys, the blues the good in rts so it's understandable why they did it this way.
The Atreides were actually red and green, and Dune I did indeed colour Atreides territories red on the planet map legend. If Ordos had been in the game, their colour would be white, as black would not contrast enough.
Dune 2000 Harkonnen logo was clearly a ram. This one does looks more like a bull with horns pointing down for some reason. Maybe Harkonnen decided a ram wasn't badass enough as a symbol?
The best and last dune game so far, and sad to say the last one ever done by westwood. I whish they would have done another dune game where you could play not only as the Harkonnens,Atreides and Ordos but also with Corrino,Ix,Tileaxu along whit the houses of Fenring and Moritani plus some sub factions of course, but i doubt that will never come true.
The guys from Fargus did it wrong. Yuri never used Orange, simply wouldn't have suited his units. Orange was only ever used in the campaign once, which was in the original Red Alert 2, not the expansion. I also agree with Andrew: The Empire of the Rising Sun (the odd side out in RA3) uses Orange as its main colour scheme.
House Harkonnen is the Dune counterpart of these Commands and Conquer factions: China (Generals), Soviet Union (Red Alert), Nod (Tiberium continuity) Let's examine, what do House Harkonnen, the Brotherhood of Nod, the Soviet Union, and China have in common? Their color is red, they are the bad guys of their respective universes, except China. They all (except Nod) rely on brute force, heavy armor, and numbers in the way of war. And they're somewhat technologically behind their foes (except Nod, again)
*****'s march for power - still remembering this one, House Harkonenn's stil my fav. Unfortuanately, House Corrino in new Dune game convinced me otherwise. :( Buy my loyalty, "Chop, chop", "Saws engaged".
@titanquestlegend It's more like an ox and its probably derived from the fact that the name Harkonnen is a Finnish name (Härkönen) which translates to "oxley"
He's right. The symbol of Harkonnen is a blue griffin - its in the book. I guess Westwood made the Harkonnen symbol a "ram" to further distinguish them from the Atriedes, plus gave them a red color-scheme to make them look all angry and mean. House Ordos does not even exist in the books.
do any one ells feel the harkonnen troops are walking slow motion and showing their badasses while the atraides, ordos, sardaukar, fremen, tuilaxu, and the guild are standing aside giving them the jealous face. haaaaaa haters these day's
Takes away some strength from single tones (and some bits don't sound good because it was meant to be listened to in 1x), but guess it's a matter of preference In fact, only the beginning sounds just a bit better, because it's slow enough to follow
@houserage the symbol for harkonnen is the ram, ordos the snake, and atradies the hawk, says so in the book and in the game.....where did you get your info from?
@horusrage to be honest I dont know i've only read the first two books of dune and listen to the music :)) it must be the game devleopers who were/are free masons or Banzay27 the uploader
People may debate but we all agree that the Harkonnen soundtrack for this game stuck out above the gameplay itself almost as if the sound designer did not care what he was getting payed, he just wanted to make a kickass soundtrack...and he did, it stole the fucking show.
+enigma4430 There is no room for debate, the Harkonnen soundtrack transcends the game by far.
+enigma4430 My brother likes Atreides, but he always used Harkonnen because of the soundtrack
Rest in peace David Lynch. You inspired the greatest soundtrack of all time.
its kind of scary to discover how much playing harkonnen mightve influenced my musical tastes at a young age...
I bought a guitar because of this theme... and I never learned how to play it lol
Your music taste? MY LIFE, DUDE!!!
If I wasn’t playing C&C when I was pretty much a toddler I wouldn’t have the same musical tastes I do now. At all.
The perfect music for grinding your enemies to dust.
My Desert, My Arrakis, My Dune - Baron Harkonnen
“AT ONCE” “AT ONCE” its all I remember while listening to this
"Y E S !"
FOR THE BARON
FIND ME SOMETHING FLESHY
Or, TURN EM AND BURN EM
"Smells like... victory!"
It was in 2004. I was 9 yo playing this game. Fast forward 20 years later I am still hum this soundtrack out of nowhere when I was bored. I'm not even a metal fan. This Harkonnen soundtrack is simply too good. WAY too good.
GLORY TO HOUSE HARKONNEN
FOR THE BARON!
we will slaughter the weak atreadies
Glory to the Space Barbarians.
Man the begining of the song...
Slow and brutal.
There could be no better choice than groove metal to represent the spirit of Harkonnen.
Re! Spect! Walk! What did you say?! Re! Spect! Walk! Are you talking to me?!!
Walk on home, boy!
Slow and brutal.... just how they like their torture.
YES?! AT ONCE!!!!

After seeing the film and the symbolism with the bull, it makes the most sense for House Harkonnen to have the bull as its sigil.
The bull isn't actually the symbol of House Harkonnen outside of the games. In the novel, it's explained that Duke Leto's father was killed by a bull, so Leto slaughtered it and mounted its head. Among other things, the bull represents a portent of death.

Sometimes you have to phone it in to pay the bills. Also, he probably tried to fit the music to the subject matter.
You simply cannot listen to any Harkonnen song in the game without headbanging so hard your head falls off. There is nothing more epic than David Arkenstone's work for Battle for Dune.
Frank klepacki?
@@lawrencemorris2261 Atreides' music is... top 3 for sure. Emperor battle for Dune OST is just too op.
"I go, death will follow."
Radiation? Ha! Whatever.
House Harkonnen is just so kickass
In my honest opinion thats the best soundtrack from the all westwood games. I love RA 1&2 but this is just special
Failure is death
VICTORY IS LIFE
The Harkonnens! Put those twisted humans out of your mind, mother... WE are Harkonnens. You are the Baron's own daughter.
Muad'Dib and his sister are Harkonnens! The Atreides Empire is a façade of the Harkonnen Empire!
This drops so much base that when i turn it up, sleeping babies 10 doors down wake up crying.
Best leg workout music ever.
Gunther JC
Doing some heavy squats at this moment. No better music.
i give this song a 100/100
My Cat listened to this. Now it's a Pitbull.....
my houseplant just stand around;
now it's make a deal on Titan as a powerhouse president of Algae
I listened to this. Now I'm a badass.
Erek Czerwony syn Smukłego listened to this. Now he succeeds Malefor as Dark Master.
I played this to my Fat uncle now his The Baron
SPICE MUST FLOW!
god i miss devastators
this is perfect music for crushing the enemis of house harkonnen!
... For Giedi Prime! 😎
Unlike the other sighns, house harconnen has the best one, it looks at you no matter where you look at it from, reminds you of the terrifying power that wears it into battle proudly, the Harconnen strike with unmatchable strength cause they are the only ones who go into everything head on. This is fucking awesome, never played this game, the music is wow; exactly as I love music
You can only really play house harkonnen with tracks like this
OMG this is the greatest song ever while...... 'relaxing' I love these games so freakin hard. frank kepaki .... genius. his guitar
the Duke will die before these eyes and he'll know, he'll know, that it is I, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, who encompasses his doom!
It's no other game like it today . . . With very cool soundtrack of harkonnen
as the song plays imagine the harkonnen slaughtering the atredies
Despite being evil bastards, I must admit that theme easily makes up for it. It pump me up, makes me want to put on a power armor and just fuck up everything that stands in my way.
+combinecommando001 If I lived in the Dune Universe, I would gladly serve House Harkonnen.
+Frank G You must do two things, first one, always watch your back and second always plot. A good Harkonnen always plots.
combinecommando001 Of course.
***** It's hard to tell honestly, I haven't read all of the books. But that's what great about them, there's no good or evil, each sides do what they must to ensure their house remains the strongest one. But each employs different tactics.
I'll be listening to this while I conquer the world.
I will be listening this while driving to Aldi to buy discount chicken and anything else 30% off.
still better than the movies and mini series House Harkonnen themes
Im just banging my head in acknowledgment
Harkonnens in the books: schemers, decadents, suck at warfare.
Harkonnens in the games:
HARKONEEEEENNNNNNNN YEAHHHH
When my kids do something bad and stupid and they know they are going to get it, i play this song on max volume so they know what is coming to them.
My favorite of the harkonnen tracks
This song is what describes harkonnen for me, pure metal and based as hell ;)
It sounds like unstoppable coercive power.
War! Sublime war!
Sadaukar are the most epic, get Sadaukar troops and Harkonnen tanks marching to this music while your playing to the game.. Amazing, fucking unstoppable,no surrender, death before dishonor and take no prisoners.
David Arkenstone the best!!!!
House Atreides and House Ordos, fear our Death Hand missiles and Devastators!
'Radiation high! But not toxic!' 'I feel sick'
Stellan skaarsgaard and batista 👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

Девастаторы под эту музыку .... Помню создал их штук 50. И пошёл мочить Атрейдесов
Guys, it's a bull not a sheep nor goat nor ram nor pork with fried rice, a bull guys, a bull.
Who'd made that mistakes? X,D
Tango Feroz Are you sure itś not pork with fried rice and potatos???
bull horns poke up ram horns poke down
Dune 2000 Harkonnen logo was clearly a ram. This one does looks more like a bull with horns pointing down for some reason. Maybe Harkonnen decided a ram wasn't badass enough as a symbol?
Etimologically, the word "harkonnen" in the old Finnish language means "iron bull"...
House Harkonnen is what the Brotherhood should of been.
nah bro, nod is moved by purpose. harkonen is just pure love for war and destruction
The best and last dune game so far, and sad to say the last one ever done by westwood. @Curanus87 Totally agree with you, I loved this game when I was young, it brings back some nice memories!
This is the JAM! needs a remaster to bring up that riff + base
The guys from Fargus did it wrong. Yuri never used Orange, simply wouldn't have suited his units. Orange was only ever used in the campaign once, which was in the original Red Alert 2, not the expansion. FIRST BLOOD IS OURS!
House Harkonnen is the Dune counterpart of these Commands and Conquer factions: China (Generals), Soviet Union (Red Alert), Nod (Tiberium continuity)

DAMN! I LOVE that music!
So great!!!!

DAMN! ...
You fight like Harkonen.
Heeeeeere they come...
@titanquestlegend It's more like an ox and its probably derived from the fact that the name Harkonnen is a Finnish name (Härkönen) which translates to "oxley"
Oxley is also an English surname.
In the books, house harkonnen used the griffin as the house crest.
It's a bull. "Harka" means bull in Finnish.
I still remember the good old days of allying with the leech even :')
Великий человек
@Galaxy Channel 58 Аркенстон
2 harkonnen favs missle tanks and devs
an excellent piece of music for US marines corp or future space marine corp.
New Dune movie was sick :)
Devastation, Imminent -
DEVASTATION TIME
@ignas1130 and the Harkonnem "totem" is (should be) a blue Gryphon.
Harkonnen knows how to rock
HA YOUR RIGHT DUDE
do any one ells feel the harkonnen troops are walking slow motion and showing their badasses while the atraides, ordos, sardaukar, fremen, tuilaxu, and the guild are standing aside giving them the jealous face. haaaaaa haters these day's
I don't know man, i think Fremen and Sardaukar are Badass in their own right.
LeL dis memories
a lizard listen to this track now its a black dragon full of rage and hate
House Atreides ,House Ordos ,The Guild and the Fremen dislike this
Put this song at 1.5 speed = satisfactory
Takes away some strength from single tones (and some bits don't sound good because it was meant to be listened to in 1x), but guess it's a matter of preference
In fact, only the beginning sounds just a bit better, because it's slow enough to follow
I'm pretty sure it is the blue gryphon for House Harkonnen in the books. House Ordos never appeared in the books.
This is badass.
If playing the Harkonnen didnt change your life your wrong 😅
@GeneralSpy they're the same thing,you see,rams have heads like goats(male)
gotta strife
@houserage the symbol for harkonnen is the ram, ordos the snake, and atradies the hawk, says so in the book and in the game.....where did you get your info from?
@titanquestlegend
Nope, its an Ox.
omg u guys thats blatently a bovine skull if iv ever seen one!! lol
Damn! this Is some heavy shit \m/
Too bad 2:51 suggests the Harkonnens are redeemable.
@welshy2468 funny thing is its the wrong symbol for house harkonnen ... they are supposed to be a blue gyphon not a red goat or ram.
Rebus, dickhead.
I have a hard time trying to decide which villain has the better national anthem. Rakan Harkonnen or Emperor Palpatine.
@eadlie24 I think they're too straight laced to have electric guitars with the gain set to "badass."
@horusrage to be honest I dont know i've only read the first two books of dune and listen to the music :)) it must be the game devleopers who were/are free masons or Banzay27 the uploader
i don't believe harkonnen picked a goat for their sign
@666xDavid It's from Emperor: Battle For Dune, not C&C ... Both are Westwood production.
RIP Westwood.
Ram horns point down, bull horns point up. I think this symbol is supposed to be a ram symbol.
Perfect Strangers-Deep Purple :)
