About the pistol: the Fremen use a Maula Pistol, which shoots dart/bullet projectiles and most Fremen would have one. They are great especially for non-shield combat in the desert. Paul actually takes one when he and Jessica meet the Fremen and Stilgar tells him he will get one when he has earned it.

Ironically, that sounds _exactly_ like something he would write, especially in the later novels. One of the things that turned me off from the series was just how much of our contemporary stuff was lifted whole into this supposedly exotic world of many millennia into the future. The first book is rather dignified and the three sequels largely keep to this spirit as well, but then some weird shit starts happening and suddenly you get the Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit go to a bigass Bene Gesserit canteen to dine alongside fellow Bene Gesserit and spend an entire paragraph talking about whatever's happening in the kitchen. Really bizzare, sort of a Frankenstein of literature.
I like this graphical era when every character was represented as vaguely asian-caucasian because it wasn't possible to render them efficiently any other way this was of course especially so with half-assedly produced games like this.
You know what bothers me in a ton of sci-fi? 3:30 If you can't move a muscle why can you talk?!? Your jaw requires muscles in order to move! Your eyes are also controlled by muscles! Could they not get the exposition done in any other way? I see this kinda thing everywhere.
So...was that robot boss an illegal Ixian machine bought illicitly by the Harkonnen and smuggled to Arrakis, or did this game just throw the book's lore completely out the window because "science fiction = robots" and they needed an inconsequential boss fight for that level so YOLO?
To be fair, having the player fight illegal Ixian and Tleilaxu creations could be cool, even if it wouldn't be 100% lore friendly. The Westwood Dune games for instance let you recruit exotic units from those factions, if your faction gained a strong enough favor with them. But of course the problem here is we are talking about something possibly being cool in the PS2 Dune game.
Judging from the font on the cover art and the time this came out, I believe this was meant to be a tie-in with the Sci-Fi channel mini-series. I would highly recommend that series for fans of the book looking for an alternative to the Lynch version which stays closer to the text, though with the caveat that it's low budget and very "stagy" in its production. Unlike this game, it executes well with the resources available.
But it looks like they couldn't secure the rights for that dude who played Paul there (he had short hair). Kinda like in that Godfather game where everybody's movie appearance was lifted except for Pachino's.

The TV show sucks. Sure, it was more loyal to the books, but that doesnt mean anything when your costume department is cringe, your acting is mediocre, and your writing is Network TV level
I recently played this last week and on original ps2 hardware. I can confirm that the audio issues you were having seem to be the result of emulation however on original hardware it drops to 15fps when there is more than 2 enemies on the screen so pick your poison
I'm a huge Dune fan. Have the books, audiobooks, David Lynch movie, Sci-fi Miniseries, the Sega CD game, Sega Genesis game, the Dune 2000 P.C. Big Box game and the PS1 port of it. I've never heard of this one. I can see why it's never mentioned and talked about. Holy balls this is worse than the Baron's bowel movement and uglier than Gurney's scar on his face (as described in the books).

There are weapons called maula pistols which I believe were projectile based. I think slug throwers were supposed to be today's kind of firearm tech because I believe they were described as antique and primitive technology.
The Fremen did use "Maula Pistols", so it was some sort of gun weapon. In the desert, NO ONE uses a shield because it would call all worms around straight to eat your ass, so projectile weapons are game on!

The laser gun is actually accurate since in arrakis the rhytmic vibrations of the shields attract worms which is why they are not commonly used. Mechanical guns are also banned since the robot war that hapaned 10000 years before the time the book is set.
This was my introduction to dune. I can’t believe I loved this game when I was a kid, just playing whatever was on my dads laptop at the time. This shit was so fun and great for some reason.
I remember being hyped for the game when I finished Emperor: Battle for Dune. Thankfully I got to try the demo first XD Oh, and Allia looks hideous here :D
I played this on the PS2 in the PS2 era... and couldn't get beyond the first stretch of desert with the sand worm. Ten years later I tried again and got further... and got bored trying to blow up the first harvester. So you've got a lot further than I ever did. Kudos!
@@noahfessenden6478 It's been awhile. I remember liking it. It's somewhat similar to GTA, if it took place in the 1940s. Loosely based on the movie. You can wear different outfits, create your character, bribe corrupt cops, fight mob families. Has some RPG elements, if remember correctly.

You could use a program like Xpadder to map the KBM inputs to a controller, such as arrow keys to the thumbstick. It's pretty handy for older games with bad KBM layouts.
I like that people who complain about guns in dune always bring of the Shield/Laser argument, THE THING IS you forget that people dont wear shields on the sands of dune because it makes the worms erratic

When I was a little kid I had this game on a cd, I couldn't make it past the first level (i was like 6 or 7), and recently I tried to find this game, but all i was able to find was the RTS games from the same era. Your video helped me understand that I indeed saw that game and that I am not insane, and secondly, closed the gestalt by you completing the game, thank you very much!
It actually makes sense to start an action game based on Dune later in the story as it’s mostly just drama and political intrigue for the first chunk of the book.

well on dune, people used guns again because shields attract the worms. Fremen especially would always use their guns, their krys dagger being of more ceremonial value. Only once it's unsheathed it has to draw blood otherwise it will dissolve. Only the fedaykin used their daggers extensively.

It is possible to rebind your arrow keys to AWSD through software outside of a game. I do it every time I want to play Stronghold.

So. At around 5:32 to 5:38 in the video I may have squinted my eyes at just the right time as to make me think that he did in fact look like Isaac Clarke. I realized a moment later that I am a fool.

well on dune, people used guns again because shields attract the worms. Fremen especially would always use their guns, their krys dagger being of more ceremonial value. Only once it's unsheathed it has to draw blood otherwise it will dissolve. Only the fedaykin used their daggers extensively.

Lazguns are viable on dune bc shields attract worms, so you can't wear them on the sand. So you aren't very worried about shields on open sand
