  • 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #159
    The Brothers Collection features some stunning Muscle Cars that were the first ones off the line, as well as some of the "lasts" as well. This 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge convertible is one of those cars, as it is believed to be the last Judge convertible built for the '69 model year. It's powered by the 366 HP Ram Air III 400-cube V8, and wears a special order color.

    I was exactly 50 days old when the last 69' Judge rolled off the assembly line in Michigan. Born on 6-19-1969 in Caro, Michigan!

    For $650.00 exchange, Royal Pontiac in Royal Oak, Michigan would install a special 428 engine in your 68' GTO. It was called the Royal Bobcat.

    • @jeremythompson9122
      @jeremythompson9122 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did some Royal Bobcat 428 Firebird's too. They are even more rare than the Bobcat GTO's though. Probably only a handful of them still exist

    My friend just restored a GTO, but not a Judge. I remember driving with him looking for a new/used front bumper. Those suckers are heavy, man! I think they are solid rubber.

    did he say 69 was the last year for the judge? I thought it was 69-71? I always wanted Pontiac to do so much more with the 428.

  • @davebruton5731
    @davebruton5731 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Most manufacturers began building new /next year cars in August . So this might have been last 69 built at that plant . Or did the plant close completely ? But 1970 got new styling too .

    Not sure I'd characterize this as a "special order color" considering it was offered on any Judge after the set of Carousel Red Judges were produced.

    Is a 1960s Chrystler 500 considered a muscle car? That always got me confused.

    • @rosenb37
      @rosenb37 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course you're confused - it was called the "300."

    • @jeremythompson9895
      @jeremythompson9895 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. The 1955-56 Chrysler 300 was the very first muscle car though. The later ones were big full size luxury cars

  • @livewire2759
    @livewire2759 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've heard that you could get a '69 judge with a 428 under the hood, if you ordered from the right dealer, even with the company wide displacement limit of 400 cid for midsize cars. Like the Yenko super cars. Can anyone confirm or debunk this? I'd really like to know. Maybe there is one in the brother's collection...

    • @user-eu9ub8kj9j
      @user-eu9ub8kj9j 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There has never been a 428 in a Pontiac ever

    • @livewire2759
      @livewire2759 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The 428 large journal pontiac v8 engine was produced from '67 to '69 for the full size cars in the '68 and '69 model years. It's a rare engine, yes, but they were built and installed in full size cars. I have seen articles claiming that some dealers installed a few in GTO's but I've never seen an example of this.

    • @livewire2759
      @livewire2759 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's one of the places I've read about it. Another source I came across years ago (can't remember where anymore) claimed that the 428 blocks were built with the ram air IV cam, heads and intake and installed in a few GTO's. Like you said, until an example is produced, or at very least some paperwork, it's hard to believe.

    • @dougdidit6897
      @dougdidit6897 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a 67 Parisean in BC Canada with a 327. A friend of mine had the same car with a 428 and Hurst 4 speed. I don't think the GTO'S got a 428. In Canada things were different.

    • @livewire2759
      @livewire2759 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, a lot of the Canadian Pontiacs (and Olds' ) were built with Chevy engines.

    What exactly is the fascination with the GTO? That 389-3 deuce could hardly keep up with Chevelle 396 single quad! So why the mass fascination?
