One of the best ports of an arcade game ever made for the SNES. People today don't understand how ahead of its time Killer Instinct was it's release into Arcades. There was nothing like graphics and sound wise.
Really? It’s pretty accurate, especially in terms of gameplay. It’s really just lacking a few animations and 3-d effects. It played very similarly though.
I've recently discovered that Rare completed production on a SNES version of Killer Instinct 2 but it was never released. It would be very interesting to see it but as far as I know no video footage or still images of the game have ever been made public.
@@Shinobi33 If someone claims to have something and yet refuses to share proof (especially when sharing would not diminish anything they own at all), then they're probably lying.
I remember as a 9 year old kid playing in the arcade with awe playing KI1 and seeing that Ultra 64 logo. It was an exciting time for gaming. I remember getting SNES and being bummed that the levels werent in 3D but I loved it and played the shit out of it still. It was all about how to bring the arcade experience home back then.
Well, I didn't knew why it wasn't so impressive on my Snes compared to arcade. On arcade, it seemed like you could fight in a corner or at the edge of the arena, and I wondered why on Snes I couldn't. Cause it was semi 3D, something the Snes never could handle.
FX chip produced full games. Even added to titles like Yoshis island. It’s a crime they didn’t use it here and they avoided even using Mode 7 which is Abundant in most snes games
@@thomasbeall9069 The Super FX could handle non-textured flat shaded polygons, and only a few of them relatively speaking. And with Mode 7 they could have made the floor rotate, but then the rest of the background becomes a fixed image on the horizon. Neither would have made it more like the arcade.
Strange how there was a SNES and Gameboy version and never an Ultra 64 port, lol. A phenomenal effort on SNES. Check out the impressive Gameboy version too.

I've been waiting since KI2
Pre-rendered can't quite compare to real-time 3D at this point (RR2, VF2, Daytona USA) although this one does have some nice stuff like the canyon skybox and rooftop 3D arena
Blank Blank - I mean, it might have allowed some 3D elements on the stages, but the main limitation was the limited storage space on cartridges. The arcade version used a dedicated hard-drive for game data, even with compression there's really no realistic way the SNES could have ever come close graphically/audio-wise given the comparatively miniscule storage available on cartridges (The MAME hard-drive image for Killer Instinct is just under 100 MB, your average SNES cart was 1-2 Megs, 4 to maybe 6 for the largest capacity carts)
Same can be said for any arcade port. Yet MK2 was amazing. They rushed KI, they needed it out and weren’t going to help the game with FX like they should have. Even then we knew it wouldn’t be arcade quality but it appears to be something more of a Gameboy color looking game than a solid port to snes.
Aye, sure, video and audio are downgraded, but that's a perfectly OK trade. I mean, the Arcade was 64 Bits, sent to the 16 Bit SNES due to the Ultra 64's delay. So, you have to set that context in.

Killer Instinct 1 for the Super Nintendo is a very kick ass game. It would be nice if you could play the Arcade version on maybe a newer console (Xbox-One would most likely be the only 1 to get it) as I've never played it. Killer Instinct is an awesome fighting game franchise (2nd favorite, but not too far) behind Mortal Kombat & I do very much welcome the idea of a crossover between the 2 (even if I'd have to get an Xbox-One to play it). Also, these are very good comparison videos. Nice job. I became a new subscriber late last night/early this morning.
Seems they have a definitive edition of Killer Instinct coming for the XB1 which includes all three season packs, and the arcade versions of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2.
Although the SNES version is not identical to the Arcade, this represented an honorable effort on the part of the Big N, very admirable considering the hardware differences, it was so cool to see it on the CRT TV, which humble in my opinion it deserves a loud applause!
In the arcade version, the Earth seems like it's moving really fast, you can see how fast the cloud animations flies as compare to the normal animations of the Super NES version.
ARCADE! That the S. Nes reached the level of the arcade was a legend! It happened where she approached, not equalled with TMNT 2 & Sunset Riders, no other game!
There is a hack called Killer Instinct SNES Arcade Hack 2021 which brings most of all the missing things that were cut from the Arcade because of limitations and its a well done hack
Arcade was easily better than the SNES version. The projectile special effects were much better on the arcade, the rotate-able characters in the select screen, better sound and music, everything. Also the arcade version had 3d backgrounds. The SNES version had 2d backgrounds. When you finish the enemy by knocking off them off the building root-top in the arcade version, you had a real cutscene where the SNES version is just a 2D sprite falling down.
Nessas o Arcade sempre leva.
A versão arcade é melhor graficamente.
i dont get why people keep wishing that there was an Ultra64 version of KI1 They did KI2 and it wasnt perfect Personally im gald there was no U64 version of KI1 as it would have just been inferior . I'll play the arcade version KI1 on mame thx
Entao obviamente n é a mesma coisa q jogar no arcade
I loved this so much on the snes. I remember playing the arcade version a few times and not liking it as much because the moving camera really confused me.
While the SNES version is a port, the gameplay was touched up nicely. There's also less glitches compared to the Arcade version. Interesting thing too about the Game Boy version is that it had a few small details from the Arcade version that the SNES did not.
Man I’m lost, I couldn’t stand this port as a kid. Looks Awful, when snes had Colorful and vibrant games that made this look like mud. Kids wanted to see Orchid flash people, take that out and no one would be talking about this awful port.
It was like bringing a knife to a gun fight. The SNES version would never be able to be close to being on par with the Arcade. It should have though included a 6MB cart to include higher quality sounds and more frames of animation. I remember being so incredibly disappointed by the downgrade. It was in serious demake territory.
you can get Killer Instinct 1 and 2 arcade on the xbox one you get them for free if you buy the new one, but you have to set your console to the us, just go in settings
both are great but the arcade version its way better it has better sound better graphics and some 1 or 2 finisher moves that aren't available on the SNES version, but still like the work that people make for the SNES version.
the SNES port is good considering the difference in power. not releasing KI1 on the N64 too is one of Nintendo's worst mistakes. both versions could have coexisted and sell a lot. KI1 should have been a launch title on the N64. by the way, I think Orchid's stage looks better on SNES!.
• Wolfenstein 3D • Mortal Kombat • Killer Instinct • DooM • Any game on the Neo•Geo These Top 5s all made bad mistakes on being ported to the SNES instead of the N64.
Killer Instinct is probably the best fighting game to compare Aracde to and home console.

As much I did love the SNES, the KI port was an insult to the Arcade version. Finally The "Ultra 64" never provided the level of quality of KI arcade. What deception. Glad I got the arcade PCB few year ago for a good price. It actually show what we expected from the N64.
It is an excellent port for Snes with only 32Mb, the cartridge could have had more capacity like Tales of Phantasia or Star Ocean with 48Mb and used it to improve the animation of the characters or something else. And if the Nintendo 64 had been released with a CDrom, Ki 1 and 2 would have been an exact copy of the arcade, remember that the arcade used a hard drive with 500MB, somewhat smaller than the capacity of a CDrom. That space was needed more than anything for scenarios, which were practically an interactive video.
@@tunkunrunk Completely agree, but like everything new they would be expensive products for the end consumer and would not be profitable for the companies. Perhaps if storage technology had advanced more in the 80s the story would have been different.

You can but only if you buy it with a bundle
Seems they have a definitive edition of Killer Instinct coming for the XB1 which includes all three season packs, and the arcade versions of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2.
IcedEarthaholic They probs got rid of the Nintendo intro and replaced it with the Microsoft logo
Although the SNES version is not identical to the Arcade, this represented an honorable effort on the part of the Big N, very admirable considering the hardware differences, it was so cool to see it on the CRT TV, which humble in my opinion it deserves a loud applause!
SNES DOES WHAT GENESIS DON'T
The arcade version is what made me want a Nintendo 64 but was disappointed with the SNES version and it left my hands crippled til this day.
Damn the arcade version is beautiful! I had only played the SNES one
SNES as a 16 bit did amazing with this game ! Going from a Genesis , 32x and then Nintendo 64 , I was so happy for the second one.
I’m glad Microsoft brought the rights to killer instinct
They wasted Rare actually
In the arcade version, the Earth seems like it's moving really fast, you can see how fast the cloud animations flies as compare to the normal animations of the Super NES version.
Killer Instinct on Arcade. Looks way better. More defined. And better character graphics.
ARCADE!
3:36 I like that scenario better in the snes version because it has that sunset background
Nessas o Arcade sempre leva.
Legends say that owners are still waiting on the Ultra 64.
I have to say SNES don't play around when it comes to Old School Gaming Comparision Ports.
A versão arcade é melhor graficamente.
if the N64 had a port of this game it would have really helped it launch. Plus it would have looked better due to the 3D capabilities
They had Killer Instinct Gold (KI 2)..
i dont get why people keep wishing that there was an Ultra64 version of KI1
They did KI2 and it wasnt perfect
Personally im gald there was no U64 version of KI1 as it would have just been inferior .
I'll play the arcade version KI1 on mame thx
ACXIAO666 I guess it’s just that it was promised originally, and people are still stung that it never came out
Ultra 64 just the name fits well with n64
No matter what both of them are amazing
Entao obviamente n é a mesma coisa q jogar no arcade
I played on SNES in my childhood, but arcade version is awesome, look like a dream
The snes graphics were really good, but nowhere near the arcade version. Either way, Nintendo and rare did an amazing job on the port
I actually liked Jago's stage on SNES better.
The arcade looked like a DIFFERENT GAME! It kills the snes version lol.
Spoken like a true millennial. You have no idea how impressive the SNES port is consider the Arcade version.
damn arcade got the original release wow.
I love the three versions of Killer Instinct 1, even the Game Boy one.
A versão de Arcade desse jogo é linda
I loved this so much on the snes. I remember playing the arcade version a few times and not liking it as much because the moving camera really confused me.
While the SNES version is a port, the gameplay was touched up nicely. There's also less glitches compared to the Arcade version. Interesting thing too about the Game Boy version is that it had a few small details from the Arcade version that the SNES did not.
Oh really? Like what?
Is the skyscraper stage actual 3D?
So they just flat out didn’t add a skyline on Jago’s stage in the arcade?
I wonder what they would’ve achieved on a N64 version considering the SNES had such a decent port.
Yeah, the SNES tried it's best though.
Excelente trabajo bro.
unique channel, really cool
This really disappointed me back in the day I thought the ultra 64 was going to be like the neo geo aes arcade perfect in every way.
One of the best looking games on SNES.
I never realized the difference was this big, with the SNES version already being this good...
Man I’m lost, I couldn’t stand this port as a kid. Looks
Awful, when snes had Colorful and vibrant games that made this look like mud. Kids wanted to see Orchid flash people, take that out and no one would be talking about this awful port.
Just for the hell of it, I would LOVE to see a port to the neo geo, would love to see difference
th-cam.com/video/_NQopH8drco/w-d-xo.html
Honestly, they tried their best with porting the game to the SNES despite the limitations of the console.
Snes version = Better playability
Arcade Version = Better graphics
why is the snes version better playability ?
If Nintendo Would've Released Ultra64 Killer Instinct Could've been Praised More than Most Fighting Games!!!!!!
I wonder what made Killer Instinct so great, besides having 3D backgrounds.
the combo system, it was legendary
The music , the announcer and combo system
Cajuzinho atropela com o Jago.
IAAA!!!
Faz um vídeo Killer 2 vs Killer Gold
both are great but the arcade version its way better it has better sound better graphics and some 1 or 2 finisher moves that aren't available on the SNES version, but still like the work that people make for the SNES version.
the SNES port is good considering the difference in power.
not releasing KI1 on the N64 too is one of Nintendo's worst mistakes. both versions could have coexisted and sell a lot. KI1 should have been a launch title on the N64.
by the way, I think Orchid's stage looks better on SNES!.
• Wolfenstein 3D
• Mortal Kombat
• Killer Instinct
• DooM
• Any game on the Neo•Geo
These Top 5s all made bad mistakes on being ported to the SNES instead of the N64.
I’m surprised that killer instinct never got a genesis port
That space was needed more than anything for scenarios, which were practically an interactive video.
if only large capacity chips that we have nowadays had already been available in the 90s , we wouldn't have had CD consoles
@@tunkunrunk Completely agree, but like everything new they would be expensive products for the end consumer and would not be profitable for the companies. Perhaps if storage technology had advanced more in the 80s the story would have been different.
