    FYI - The EGR gasses are inert, and actually used to cool combustion temperatures. High combustion temps are where your NOX & other emissions form.
    Fooling the EEC isn't a smart thing to do. If the EEC thinks the EGR is still functional, it will pull fuel and add timing,... bad idea if you don't have the inert gasses to cool down the combustion temps.
    Just leaving the sensor plugged in, or taped /zip tied closed will tell the EEC that the EGR is present, but not functioning, so you get the CEL.
    When the EEC triggers a hard fault on the EGR, it stops using that strategy and making fuel/timing adjustments.Best thing to do if you aren't turning it off in the tune is to leave it unplugged and ignore the CEL.

      BustedWalletGarage ,
      I didn't say it wasn't hot.
      You miss the point, inert gasses in the mixture lower the overall temperature of the combustion chamber.
      You are forgetting that the head and spark plug pull out a bunch of that heat and transfer it to the cooling system.

      @Player 1 The exhaust clings to the cylinder walls after reentry plus it has little to no oxygen in it, which means it won't help the burn, meaning cooler firing. The EGR's main goal is to reduce NOX emissions, by making the cylinder temps cooler. Tossing an ice cube in a cup of water does not cause the water to freeze but it will lower the temp of the water in the cup.

      Exhaust gas-largely nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor-has a higher specific heat than air, so it still serves to lower peak combustion temperatures. ... EGR also tends to reduce the amount of fuel burned in the power stroke.

    Finishing car this week. So far I have a lot more room & less stuff to fight back into place.

    I did the same thing on my 86 f150 with a 302. the tube comes out of the lower intake. like you I used a penny to block it off

    Thank you very much for the advice. I will do just that! I already have a chip on the way, I will just save for a few months and get those AFR heads! My transmission is having issues, trying to decide if I rebuild it or convert to a manual? It's a convertible so was probably gonna go auto. It's more of a cruiser that hopefully will break a few hearts! Thx again

    I have a 95 GT and I live In AZ and I must take my car thru emissions every year, will this pass there inspection and tests, if I remove the smog pump what about all the piping to and from the exhaust and the cats? What kind of HP gain can you expect by removing all this stuff? Do you need to tune it different or do anything else? Would be stoked if you made a complete video on the whole process if possible! Thx John from AZ

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JOHN PIEGZIK if you take the smog pump off you will open a huge can of worms if you have inspection. I did this because I had the motor out. The 94-95 are down on power to boot. If you want smog legal performance , I'd go with either a set of AFR heads & a tuner chip or a Procharger & a chip , depending on budget. If you're looking for best bang for the buck , a set of 4.10 gears helps a lot. Camshafts are only worth 10-20 horsepower on the stock heads.

    The Check Engine light is on because it thinks the valves on the smog pump do not work. Finding a solution.

      Have you found one yet? Did it involve some resistor plug or a reflash of the ECU?

      +walperstyle I need to do that. I've been pretty busy and always broke

    How do i know how far to tape egr sensor rod

  • @BustedWalletGarage
    @BustedWalletGarage  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been driving it to work for a month and the stupid check engine light is on but I haven't scanned it yet. It runs strong from 2000 to 4800 rpm.

    • @davieboy1970
      @davieboy1970 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read up that you have to buy a couple resistors and then splice them in the wiring harness where the EGR plug is. There's a guy out there that explains it very nice how to do it

    • @jonpierce734
      @jonpierce734 ปีที่แล้ว

      @davieboy1970 I did the 3 resistors and still get CEL. 3.9ohm 1/2 watt and 390ohm

    Ihavent yet taken mine off some I'm not sure on this part but did you pull that little valve out and take it or push it in and take it ? Really don't want a light on but not to worried but what I really don't want is less fuel and timing. This is the first I heard it pulls timing and fuel.

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bryan Roupe what I did is use a bunch of electric tape to hold the pin pushed down , plugged it in and THIS IS IMPORTANT , start the car went it is completely cold and DO NOT TOUCH the gas pedal at all until the electric radiator fans have cycled on and off a few times , otherwise you’ll get crazy codes. If it senses it’s not there ( via the complex EGR vacuum system ) you will get a check engine light. If you can find a tuner ( person , not device ) that still works on these old ODB I , they can actually turn those functions off.

    Use 3 pennies not 1, with jb weld inbetween them let sit for 24hrs. Only 1 penny shot through many times and opened the hole in the headers. this is not a permanent solution

      +Jon Gray .........1983 and up pennies are made of zinc and disintegrate. Save yourself 2 cents by using one 1982 or below, solid copper penny instead. That's my 2 cents, XD

      +P.B. Thanks. Since I switched to 1975 pennies ( year of my birth ) , no issues. I drive it to work everyday.

    So does the engine run especially rich at idle/partial throttle now? Any additional tweaking performed to get that idle video you posted after this?

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just replaced the distributor with a cheapo Summit Racing Plug-n-play billet unit. That , with new wires , helped the engine rev faster & cleaner.

    Can you take off the egr sensor with vacuum lines

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kevii ._. I capped off the vacuum lines feeding all the egr/emissions devices that are hidden under the passenger fender. You shouldn’t get a check engine light but codes will be stored in the computer. A good tuner ( as in the person ) can turn off all that stuff via a piggy-back chip. The 1994 & 1995 is OBD 1 and is not friendly. If you have the means go with an entire aftermarket ECU as this will be a continuous headache.

    How far down do I need to tape rod down so ECU knows it's there?

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the way down. Ended up taping it down and using a large hose clamp on top of it.

  • @andrewrodriguez1997
    @andrewrodriguez1997 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    when is the valve open? with the rod all the way out or pushed in?

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Rodriguez the valve is open with the rod full OUT. That’s why I affixed it with the rod fully depressed/compressed using a large hose clamp.

      BustedWalletGarage last question do you remember what size washer you used?

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Rodriguez I used an old penny. It’s soft and makes ok gasket material

    • @andrewrodriguez1997
      @andrewrodriguez1997 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BustedWalletGarage I’m stupid, sorry. I didn’t mean washer. I meant the size of the nut you used to cover pipe and penny.

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Rodriguez I used the factory nut. The egr tubing was cracked so it broke easy and I used it. It’s flared. A local hydraulic hose repair/building shop can help you out.

      I have an check engine light but have been too busy the past 3 years to get further into it. I drive the car everyday to work.

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Danny I it is a mass air flow efi setup from the factory. Ended up plugging only the head of egr into the harness and strapping the rod on it to the down position. No more check engine light. Computer thinks egr is stuck closed. The e303 cam has a very close lope separation angle of 110 degrees which causes low engine vacuum at idle. The efi doesn't like this but the piggy back custom chip allows it to overcome this.

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Danny I you can order a custom chip from BAMA through American Muscle . Com. Holds 3 custom tunes & cost less than $300

    • @BustedWalletGarage

      I ended up using a large hose clamp to hold the pin in on the egr valve. Talk to Bama Tunes and see if they can still turn all the emission stuff off with a piggyback chip. Remember is for a “ race car only “ 😉

      Andres Rivas going on memory , the pin pushed in closes the egr valve

    are you still able to use your cruise control?

    • @BustedWalletGarage
      @BustedWalletGarage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes , cruise control is electronically controlled as is the aode transmission.

    • @GeOrGiAcOuNtRyBoY82
      @GeOrGiAcOuNtRyBoY82 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BustedWalletGarage awesome, I deleted the smog pump months ago because the pipe off the head or exhaust manifold was completely rusted in two. My check engine light has been on but that does not bother me in the least. Saw somewhere that deleting the EGR would get rid of cruise control, just though I'd ask.
