Functionally, Gridania is the best one to put your free aetheryte spot on. Because you can't believe how many times we travel in or around Gridania. The one used in Coerthas West is one you used to be able to go to in fact. That's why they had to put it there. For the one in Rhalgr's Reach, Lyse even says it's an "Old Model." in a cut-scene. The one in Tamamizu is the same type as the one in the Vanu Vanu town. For the Shadowbringers ones, they have that color due to the aether instability/etc. It's even explained in a cut-scene. The one in Radz-at-Han looks like the ARR aetheryte, because Radz-at-Han was meant to be a starting city (like both Ishgard and Sharlayan), and was one of the first city states outside of Aldenard to have trade relations with Aldenard and Sharlayan.
Omg I never noticed the bit about the Elpis crystal!!! That’s so cool. I’m also very partial to the crystarium one because it blends G’raha and my wol’s crystal colors 🤭
Dont know if I just missed it or if you really forgot about it, but there is another aetherite design in heavensward, at the vanu beast tribe base. I actually really like that chubby boy and I was hoping to see your opinion on it.
damn you’re so right I straight up goofed and missed it. I give it an 8/10 because it’s kinda the same as the tamamizu one but they straight up gave it multiple hats to wear and tied some smaller crystals to it with rope they are so creative
Ul’Dah aetheryte is naturally a 10/10 because it has the most point in any starting city, and allows you quick access to three areas in Thanalan by thing alone and otherwise to all of Thanalan by proximity to the Chocobo Porter near the Adventurer’s Guild minishard. Azys Lla is 0/10 because all that you want to do is on the ship, and even getting to FATEs or distant islands is hard if it is not on the starting island. Only point of interest beyond that is The Fractal Continuum and Tiamat.
I genuinely liked this video. Please rank other quirky things in the game (if you want to make similar content). Like the different residential apartment towers or city inns
You could also do another video of analysing the potential flavours of the aetherytes, although I would be interested in anything you put out, this was absurdly wonderful, thank you!
Just have to say I so absolutely loved this video. What a great idea you had here! Myself I only got to SB so all the aetherites beyond that I've yet to see when I return to the game (which I'm planning to, but fixing RL right now), and even without knowing them I was having a blast listening to your ratings and reasons. I would disagree on a couple of them though, but that's just personal opinion... What a great video mate. Thanks for such wonderful 12 minutes of fun!
This was the most amazing thing I've seen in a while, the tidbits of peak lore you provided were amazing, and i will have to start thinking about which design i like because i really haven't till now. Also, please don’t eat the happy crystals, unless they're cool with that, then go ahead
Best aetheryte is the experimental one in Old Sharlayan that you use to go to Thavnair for the first time, because holy shit, have you seen what the light that thing gives off does to the room it's sitting after the DT graphics update? If ever there was a place to do a before and after comparison, that's it right there.
i think the one in foundation is acceptable because it lends some normalcy to ishgard, it's part of the eorzean alliance so it has the same aetheryte style, and it contrasts well the unique options that appear later in the expansion
The unique ones later were stated to be older models iirc, and were repaired after the fact, due to the mass change in climate and most aetherytes being destroyed
The ruby sea beast tribe, i belive that is supposed to resemble a shell. A shell that resembles the shell of the beast tribe that lives there. So cool thought but its still weird

I was hoping to get a deeper analysis of the functional/practical parts of each aetheryte (i.e. proximity to points of interest or frequent travel)

My most hated aetheryte is the one in Labyrinthos that just dumps you into a pond when you arrive. My poor WoL always has wet socks.
