The Solo Mountain Adventure I Nearly Quit (But I'm So Glad I Didn't) ~ A Journey Through the Wild

- This may not have been my longest adventure, distance wise, but I feel like it was one of my greatest journeys. Sometimes quitting is the right thing to do. But I’m so glad I stuck with this one

#Adventure #Hiking #WildCamping
I did a walk about in 2006 when I was 46. I spent 122 days walking into the remote wilderness and according to my GPS my line of sight travel was 98 miles at the deepest part of my trek from my pick up. I thought to myself… “I bet few people have been this far in”. About 4 steps later I found a rusty Log Cabin syrup container beside a rock by the lake I camped by with an aspen tree someone inscribed “Sergio 34” which I assumed was 1934… sheep herders in Wyoming would put there sheep way up in the wilderness. I was at 10,480’ elevation at that camp. Many of us long to be isolated on a trek… but we are traveling trails that were made long before us. Another fantastic video young lady. Good journeys and be safe.
this is magical 💫
Am i the only 1 commenting that she may be a bit reckless!...she is a very attractive woman, by herself, in the middle of nowhere!...i hope she has some kind of protection/defense item's, in case people haven't noticed lately, the nutjob's and psycho's are prowling everywhere these day's, a beautiful young woman, by herself especially in secluded area's is a prime target!....i think she may be a bit careless doing this stuff!🤔
@@robertjenkins5440 yeah just you mate. It's bloody Wales, not Ted Bundy country.
@@freddiehill28😂😂
TH-cam themselves??
@@freddiehill28Thats and incredibly arrogant and naïve thing to say. The UK has more than it's fair share of serial killers, many of which have used this type of terrain to hide their victims. Don't get me wrong, i think it's great that she is taking charge of her life and living how she wants to live, but you don't need to trash another country to make yourself feel better about your own. That's just pathetic.
I am shocked out quickly this is turning into my favorite youtube channel. I just found it Saturday. This weekend, i walked into a sporting goods store and asked if they had any rucksacks (is this an English term, cause the lady had no idea what I was asking for)😂 well, I hopped on Amazon, and it knew what i meant. So I bought one 60L? said it was good for a 4 or 5 day hike, does that sound right? I live in Utah, I am sure there is wilderness to explore out this way. This tiny little thing Claire is so fun to watch and makes adventuring so compelling. She is like a little Bilbo Baggins 😂
Claire ive been subscribed for a while now and i absolutely loved you showing more of your emotions in this video. It just made it even more inspiring seeing that its not all that easy to do. You are such a brave woman i applaud you.
Thank you 🤗 means a lot. Its not easy but it's worth it :)
Word!
I didn't realise Claire was hypermobile until she mentioned it here in this video. That makes her journeys even harder then they look. Much respect.
EDIT: I used to be a farmer and I know cows/bullocks can be frightening but as long as you don't have a dog and they don't have calves with them they are fine. They will come and look at you and crowd around which can be frightening but they won't hurt you. If you stand still they will come right up to you and lick/sniff you. Shoo them away and walk steadily. Don't run though, you will hurt yourself and they will follow you anyway.
This is amazing those views are absolutely breathtaking. Thanks for bringing us all along 😊
Thanks for coming with me 🙂🌿💚
As a resident of Hawaii, I feel compelled to say that the adventure you took in this video demonstrated that the UK has enormous areas that are every bit as beautiful (and arguably moreso) than anything aa place like Hawaii has to offer. Absolutely gorgeous. I'm envious of the opportunity you have, impressed by your perseverance , and baffled by the pronunciation of most of the places you visited as I followed your trek on Google Earth. Thanks for this.
it's because she's in Wales, they have their own language, Welsh, an example is most of the road signs are written in Welsh and English...
@@PaulMappud I knew that. Still baffled, lol.
@@TheGNexusSo are most of the English 😁
Some of these spots remind me of Ka’au Crater, or a few of the ridge hikes west side, but you’re right, they rival and surpass just about all of the treks I’ve done on Oahu. Incredibly envious.
Claire, you are a stunning woman, pushing through when it gets rough, sharing your wins and losses, and continuing to persevere. As a fellow solo backpacker I salute you!
@@yvandelabonneroche4169, isn't it time for you to watch the "The View" ?
Thank you so much, happy trails friend! 💚
@@pipperxxxwhat?
That was obviously a trip that had a huge emotional effect on you. It was very courageous of you to show just how frightened you were after traversing that bog. I hope it will go some way to showing others that, although your adventures can be stunningly beautiful, they can also be incredibly dangerous. Thanks for sharing it, Claire. Stay safe.
Thank you 💚 yehh it really did get me that! It's always the grassy bogs for me haha
I love watching your videos, the quality and wholesomeness is second to none. It was actually your channel that inspired me to start doing camping and bushcraft as a hobby.
Thanks for the inspiration Claire. Your video's have helped me through some very difficult times in my life.
Thank you for your kind words 🤗 This means a lot to me because others such as Joe Robinet and Dixie helped me through difficult times too, many years ago now. They have no idea, but the comfort was real and incredibly valuable to me. I really hope there's less difficult times ahead for you 💚
I had to cross a bog like that once - I used the grass balls as stepping stones, just as you did - until I slipped. I had figured the mud was about knee deep; it was waist deep. Naturally, the more I struggled, the deeper I sank, but fortunately I had a solid mate with me, who came over and made rude remarks until I dragged my sodden self free. This was 40 years ago, and since I remember it, I guess it was a worthwhile experience. Of sorts.
I know im just a stranger on the internet, but I'm proud of you for pushing through when you felt like quitting and im so glad it worked out to be such a great adventure. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I absolutely love your videos Claire! Your videography and editing are superb - your narration is cool and who doesn't love the word Floofie? Subscribed and currently binging your videos - so inspiring.
Aw thanks! So glad you like them, I love to make them :) welcome to my lil channel and have a floofy evening 🤗👋
That tearful moment of silence after you said ". I'm so much more capable.." mmhmm.. the things we learn about ourselves out there is why we go out there. The beauty and peace of mind is why we keep going back.
Quality stuff. Enjoyed this adventure so so much.
Thank you, for taking us on this journey with you. I loved watching this 😍
It’s such a joy to watch your adventures, even this time I felt your frustration, I’m a 63 year old that was a great lover of hiking, could never read maps but always loved the outdoors. Now a life of pain, physically and mentally, I still have my dog and we go on shorter hikes, it helps me feel more relaxed. Watching you taking me to these places is wonderful, so keep it going. I did snowdon in 2013 via miners track which was awesome. Living here in Wales 🏴 Gods country is joyful
Hi Claire! Wow that 30 mins went fast! This has to be your best vid ever, so immersive and full of emotion. I loved it! I'm off again this Friday to my usual woodland for a couple of nights, and that is all down to your inspiration! I cannot really explain how amazing it feels just being close to nature and hearing all the different noises at night and now feeling totally chilled with them. Love it and love watching your adventures! You're simply so brave and inspirational and I wouldn't be finding my solace if I hadn't discovered your channel. So grateful to you.. 🙂
Your Right, it IS her best.
Hellooo, ahh thank you so much, that means a lot to me :) I really loved this one. It's one of my favourites even though it shook me at the start
I'm so glad to hear you're out & about soon, there really is nothing like it is there. Good for the soul. Happy camping, friend 💚🤗
@ianjames1179 thank you :D
@@WildBeare Thank you! I'm excited about going Friday already! Have a fab weekend yourself too 🙂
Hi Claire! Just when I think there could be no more beautiful place, you find or it found you😇 you have gumption my fren. Loads of it!! When you were humbled I teared up. You are not given more than you can handle. I am so grateful you pressed on with care. It was worth it. Girl! You got this!🙏🏼 Thank you for sharing. Take care. Lots of Love ❤️
I've found that every hard path in life seems to help us to earn and appreciate the good ones even more. Part of what makes this beautiful place so special is the struggle to get there. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Claire.
At 24:59, Claire says: "It sounds like there's some kind of traumatized cow down there." Then she says: "Not me." Brilliant, Claire!
All my life I've lived in Wales.
For 40 years, I didn't know this place existed! (Always gone outside of Wales, never explored my homelands) Going on my list of places to go. Thanks for this 🙂
You are amazing Claire. Never doubt yourself or your abilities. Crossing that bog took immense courage. But your every step is taken with caution.
What a beautiful journey! Though you thought of quitting on Friday, you didn’t! That’s the difference there, isn’t it? You do belong out there; out in those places which give you so much joy and satisfaction. And peace. So happy you take us along!
Thank you :D ahh man I'm so glad I didn't quit on it. I would have missed out on so much. Thanks for coming with me on this :)
Simply stunning in every way, there aren't many youtube vids that hold my attention like yours do. Thanks so much for bringing us along on your adventures and being so honest 💚
At 14:30 you said “I did it” and I was so proud of you! This was such a grueling adventure, but you did it! Well done!
You have become my favorite adventurer on TH-cam!! I was impressed how calm and composed you were in the boggy terrain. AND BRAVE!! Thank you for all the excellent editing, narration and videography!
Ahh wow, thanks so much! :D Hope you have a wonderful week 🙂🌿👋
@WildBeare Ty 🙏 I also am really impressed with your ability to find epic spots to pitch your tent, tarp poncho etc... So grateful that I found your channel!
truely love your energy you just seem to love life!! genuinely wish i could find something that makes me feel as happy as u feel doing these wild camps its refreshing to see!! keep up the amazing content and keep being you! :)
Thank you so much :) I do feel very fortunate to have such passion and enjoyment for it 💚 thanks for sharing this with me
I started Stand up paddle boarding last summer, it has genuinely been amazing. My mental health has improved massively. I’ve bought a bivvy, tarp and sleeping bag and this spring will be doing my first SUP wild camp. Cannot wait. 😊😊
A motorcycle 👍🏻
I can’t believe you didn’t pass one single human being on your travel….watching you and your travels is so beautiful ,relaxing and calming…such a treat !!!..I loved all your camping spots …the one at the edge of the bank was amazing too ….and the camera work is so professional, which makes for great viewing..please keep safe ,you are some sort of super woman👍😜..❤
It's the difficult moments in life that make you really appreciate the good times.
Well done Claire for pushing through the bogs ! Grabbing the challenges and breath taking adventures. The slippery watery rocks has me holding my breath every time for you 😮😮. Another good video and scenery captured. Stay safe .
Thank you, loved this one despite the wobble at the start haha. Have a nice week :)
Good God, I had to get my heart rate back down after watching you bog hop! 😮 You did amazing considering how much weight was on your back. 💪 I'm glad you stuck it out after that fiasco. And you conquer again here 13:56 and descend over your fear to a beautiful lake. You sauntered. 😊 This was just stunning Claire, even emotional at points. You should be very proud of yourself. Thank you for this and have a lovely week. ✌️
Heyy, thank you so much, I swear those bog things are my nemesis 😄 yeh that was the thing, I was so heavy and my floopy muscles were getting too drained to hold me up against all the falling and sliding, scared the hell outta me it did. But I'm really glad I didn't go home :)
Hope you have a lovely weekend too 🙂🌿
Enjoy your journeys love that you push through all the ups and downs. Amazing scenery to boot!
I found this channel only 2 days ago, but in that time you have introduced me to more beauty (and the pain that comes with persevering to find it) as I'd not thought possible before. These are places where it is not difficult to see the magic in nature, the magic that lies in humanity if we'd just embrace it rather than spending so much time on hate and fear. Stay safe out there, Wildness, and keep on bringing joy to us all.
Peace out❤
Until I started watching your videos, Claire, I had never thought that wilderness still could be found in the UK. It’s been lived in for so long. Where I am, Europeans had barely settled 200 years ago, though plenty of evidence of Native Americans living here for millennia can be found. They must’ve known a beautiful world to wander and wonder in.
My favorite parts are where you are seriously challenged and the best option is to quit...but you persevere, you endure. You push through. Then you experience the reward of that perseverance and come through stronger. This is such an amazing example of life. This is pure inspiration and motivation. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Hi Claire another amazing adventure beautiful scenery and amazing waterfalls you should be so so proud of yourself you’re amazing 😊
Aw bless you, thanks so much 🤗
Hi Claire thank you so much for getting back to me looking forward to your next adventure I like your amazing
avoid the bogs , no one around to help if all goes wrong , but we glad you made it , your a gutsy female , great video beare .Epic , Loved it.
She is gorgeoyus... what a beautiful soul.
you are human - things happen - you learn from it - you accomplished your fear - you did GREAT - you go girl
Thank you so much :D yep, never gonna be perfect, it's alright by me
My goodness Claire , you are one amazing human being !
From picking yourself up , almost in tears and carrying on - well done you.
Your emotion shows through , and the determination shines too.
Also your editing skills are fantastic 👏 👌
Keep smiling young lady , you're a credit to yourself ❤
Thank you so much, means a lot :D
Love your channel! Thank you for sharing your journeys!
I must say that I loved that you included the tough part. As someone who can't get out an enjoy nature in the way that you do I really appreciate all the parts of the adventure you put out, even the hard ones because there will always be hard parts in life and if i could get out and hike I would. You give me a chance to at least get a glancing feeling of what it its like and it is much much appreciated! THANK YOU!
“Tempted to see if my tent would fit” , it was made to measure! Once again your ability to make us all feel apart of your adventure is incredible, so thank you. All the best and roll on the next adventure
Another stunning adventure and brilliant video! You are an inspiration to me and so many others. Thanks for dragging us along. I know you must carry extra gear in order to film your trip and the weight is a sacrifice you make for us. Thank you.
Thanks so much :D yep 4kg extra weight haha.. I could make it lighter but the filming is as much of a passion for me as the trip itself so I'm not willing to leave any of it at home currently. I think I'm gonna have to lighten it as I get older though. Have a lovely week 🤗🌿
@@WildBeare Well aren't you lucky Claire you only have another 50 years to go before you'll get close to being old. Thank your parents from me for creating such a beautiful being.❤️

Epic! Thank you!
So inspirational. Thank you.
You are one amazing person. You have a pioneering spirit to explore the unknown. Those landscapes were spectacular and stunning. That was an awesome video and thanks for taking us along. I always wondered do your maps show you where the boggy areas are? There are people that watch your videos that care about your wellbeing. Stay healthy and be safe.
This video was incredible. It showed us, the viewers, that you are normal like everyone. Your video’s show how you endure the elements by staying positive and how in overcoming obstacles but this video actually showed your emotional side. I realize you wouldn’t posted this video if you did decide to stop and not finish the trek but you did which I commend you. This is by far the best video you have posted. It has all the features that make you, Claire, an outstanding person and able to be perseverance to overcome any obstacle, physically and emotionally. You are the best.
Love your attitude. Great respect 🙏
Outstanding!! Thankyou Claire!!!!!
Life is about exploring and testing yourself. Being able to push yourself out of your comfort zone, and further is an achievement in itself. Well done on pushing through the hard times and another amazing episode. Your an inspiration Claire, keep being you.
I felt the emotions Claire, what an inspirational human being you are!! Epic journey ‼️
Absolutely wonderful! Thank you!
This was beautiful! Thanks for sharing such an amazing adventure, and also for keeping it real by showing the obstacles that you faced. Inspirational. ❤️
Thank you, Claire, thank you for your wonderful videoes and sharing your passion with us, your infectious enthusiasm and the joy you carry with you, even when the going gets tough, you truly are an inspiration. Time after time you remind me of that feeling I loved and have missed so much. After a fairly horrendous few years I've finally been able to get out again over the last few weeks and do some walking, only a few miles here and there but it's been enough and, God, I've missed it, that peace, the calm of it, just me and the world. I owe a lot of that to you, for sharing what you love, reminding me how much I love it, what a difference it makes and I just needed to make the time, get my boots on and get back out there to feel that joy again. One step at a time is good enough, so just keep going, never give in and above all else, stay floofy! Thank you!!
And it got me thinking, it's made me realise I've become a house cat over the last few years, watching the world through the window, comfortable but indifferent and detached. I've realised how these artificial things around me every day isolate my senses from the wider world outside, and it became normal to me. But out there all our senses are engaged again, eyes can focus on distant things, which I've read is very good for our vision, there's scent always in the air, the damp of grass and ferns. We can feel the warmth of sun on our face, the breeze touching our skin. There's sound, even if it's just the rush and rustle of wind through the trees or a river running. Nature's rarely silent, it usually means danger when it goes quiet, but in our civilised society silence has become something people long for, but it's deeply in us as unnatural. Just the ache of shoulders or sore feet as we move through that world, all these things, a million little reminders per minute that we're alive, because we can feel it. I know it's not always easy, nature doesn't particularly care if we're having a good day or not, but you said there was a point that you asked yourself if it's somewhere you belong. It is, because it's somewhere you can feel alive, and that's a good enough reason to be there.
I always enjoy your videos but this one was very special. I really enjoyed this so much. Everything about it from the highs and lows of your experience to the editing and story telling made this absolute magic. Thank you for this.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing!👍
Thank you for sharing your experience.

Well done Claire good on you for hanging on in there. I've been following you for a while now and you are giving me soooo much inspiration to try it for myself. Thank you so very much keep on doing what your doing you amazing person x
Just all round amazing!
Lovely Claire… love what you do and being apart of this beautiful journey with you! 💚
Be very proud of yourself, Claire. You're an inspiration to so many people, especially myself. I watch all your videos, in all honesty, your knowledge of wildcamping grows with each video. Congratulations in your achievement.
You have the strength, perseverance, and tenacity that many people lack (including myself). I always enjoy your content. Stay wild, stay hungry Claire.
Man this environment is so cool! I’m from North Carolina so I’m used to copious amounts of trees everywhere, especially in the mountains. So awesome to see all these hills and ridgelines with no trees
Thoroughly inspiring, thank you.
These vids allways make my day Claire. Cracking adventure with highs and lows. When the going gets tough you get going. Done plenty of long distance treks with my wife and what I would say is try and reduce your pack weight. 17kg is hell on your back and your knees will thank you in later years. I only carried 13kg the length of the West Highland Way. Invest in a bit of lighter gear and ask yourself what you really need and what you can do without. Either you nailed it again, fantastic cinematography, narration and editing of a truly epic trip. 😊
Thank you :) I can't really get my camping gear much lighter for summer, it's the filming gear, which is 4kg currently and I'm not willing to leave any of it behind haha. I love the filming as much as I love the trip itself. Happy trails you guys 💚

I think this has been the best adventure yet - not just because of the amazing and beautiful places you visited, but also because of the hardship, how you almost gave up but didn't. That gives us inspiration when we feel like quitting ourselves. And the millipede was awesome!

Cheers Claire, We're all allowed to be afraid and acknowledge those fears, especially in situations like yours alone in the great outdoors. But you are so brave to face those fears head on, embrace them and then use them as motivation to push forward. it's ok if we choose to give up that day and try again another but It also feels amazing the day we do decide to push forward.
