Thanks for sharing Claire! I just made a Bivy Bag and I can't wait to get out and try it. You've inspired me to do a couple of overnight trips this year! Lots of plans, and lots of new gear!!
Awesome! I love your channel ❤ I am a "pro" hammock camper, family tradition down south where im from, and i discovered my talent for ropes at a young age. Recently, i became homeless, and i live in the city. Ive been stealth camping with a hammock for years, mainly to try out Do-It-Yourself gear i make, for hammock camping. Ive been stealth camping in local Hill top public parks, some urbanized and one wild. I was inside of a california redwood tree, 10ft up and no one could see me unless they were under the tree! And no other homeless people, or worse, could get to me up there. I slept very well and even pitched my tarp up there. Getting inside the tree involved parkour, and set up was almost like the old time sail ships, with the climbing and rigging. Hammocks are difficult to hide! Im taking a page out of birds and nesting my hammock ontop of hills, or places with sloping ground, or inside of large trees. So far, so good. I am safe from the dangerous drug addicts in my city, nested away in hammock bird nests.
i'm sorry to hear you're homless, but glad that you seem to be managing so well :0 have you got any tips for setting a hammock up high? i've tried once and found out it's really hard to get into a hammock without being able to touch the ground. Even with a loadbearing ridgeline
Hey man why you are homeless? If you want to work , please come to Eastern Europe, we need so many native English teachers. You will get not bad money and respect, just think about it
I’m not a person that normally comments on any videos, but you vanishing and the bloopers were so very fun to watch. Thank you for bringing some smiles to my face ;)
Hi Claire. Thank you so much for all your videos! I love every one. I hate giving unsolicited advice as much as I do receiving it so I will just share my hammock experience and let everyone camp their own camp. I found that in a gathered end hammock(not the trough type with the spreader bars) that if I lay in it diagonally, then I can lay very flat rather than have my neck and spine curved like a banana . It feels weird at first because we don't normally sleep in a bed or on a mat that way. It has greatly improved my comfort while hammock camping. Give it a go if you like. You might find that it makes your hammock adventures even more comfy and cozy. Thanks again Claire!
My hammock says to do this, but I can't figure it out, to be honest - the automatic bundling up of the hammock always presses me so I end up straight, unless I lay down practically horizontally, but then my head and feet don't fit in. How do you manage it so you stay in that diagonal position?
@@xthinker88 I've always found if you are reasobably tall a double gathered end hammock helps tremendously in getting that diagonal or ' Brazilian lay' spot on due to the extra width it affords. Another good trick is to experiment with the amount of sag until you get it dialled in pefectly. Once you've found that sweet spot you can attach an adjustable structural ridgeline made from dynema cord to make the process easily repeatable each time when setting up your suspension webs or whoopee slings.
Claire your ability to try anything keeps us glued to your videos. it never gets boring and you explain everything in a way that makes it a pleasure to watch. thank you for being you 🙏💜
I think if I was stealth camping I’d spend an inordinate amount of time and effort making sure my lights weren’t visible. And I’m definitely not a hammock guy but I appreciate your efforts 🫶🏻 My hiking days are pretty much over but I very much appreciate your videos from the forests. “Have a little nature reset” is the best advice I’ve heard in a while.
Hey Claire! If you hang your hammock, try and make sure that your rope, isnt more then 30degrees, otherwise you'll get folded up like a banana! The way to check this is to hold your fingers like a pistol, if the thumb and the tip of the pointer finger touch the rope, it's a good lay. Anything less then 30, you'll risk falling out, anything more it's like being a banana. Can't wait to get out and overnight in my hammock setup again... SOON!
... and once u got that 30ish° figured out I'd highly advise you get some non stretch cord, like dyneema and tie in a ridgeline to permanently fix that sag, no matter how much you play with the tie-outs to the trees. (The length is usually about 83% of the hammock length as a guide). Happy camping!!
I love how you’re stoked that it’s 13°c and a month away from summer and here in Australia it’s 17°c at night and a month from winter. Time to come here and do some camping. 😀
Love the hammock setup....just roll out of bed for morning coffee. And it beats falling out of a top bunkbed in the middle of the night. I picked up the same alcohol stove 2 mths back and fell in love with it. One word of warning though (just found out the hard way!) The rubber o-ring generally doesn't fall out and holds up well if you let the stove cool first...no leaks. But once the stove gets carbonized/dirty it can stick to the rim of stove, and in low light you MAY not see it! I didn't, only to smell plastic burning...argh! Time for a new stove or 2.
today i brought out my brand new little Trangia stove into the local woods to eat some sausages for lunch, watched a storm roll in.... it was honestly just. such a little treat. you've been an inspiration to me to get out more just for lil moments. i live in the city, so its sometimes hard to find spaces to go, so whenever i get the chance to, its heavenly. thank you for sharing your lil videos with us!
Pro tips: Head end of hammock needs to be lower than foot end by about a foot (as you are laying down. Lay diagonally, not like a banana, if possible in your hammock. Suspension should usually be around the tree at or below your own eye level as you stand by the tree (varies by your height of course) will give you about 1 to 2 feet of ground clearance.
Hi. As a long-time hammock camper, I think the best way to be comfortable in a gathered end hammock like yours is to get a diagonal lay. You'll need a little more slack in the hammock itself than is afforded by simply tying off to trees. You can install a ridgeline directly to the ends of the hammock itself that will keep the gathered ends a set distance apart no matter how you attach to the trees. This will allow you to lay more diagonally in the hammock, which keeps your body flatter and not as much of a banana. You'll have to play around with it to figure out the length that works best with your body and that particular hammock, but once it's dialed in, you can leave it installed on the hammock and have the perfect lay every time (use a cord that will not stretch). I also suggest you attach your head end just a little lower on the tree than your foot end. It seems counter-intuitive, but it's actually more comfortable that way.
One of these mini bag hammocks made the time my wife and I were homeless so much more bearable.we figured out if you flip over quick enough two people can lay in the edges and have a solid waterproof surface over you for rainstorms
Thanks for another wonderfully relaxing video. Hammock in the woods does sound like a plan. If you're interested, the 'spider' was actually a harvestman (order Opiliones - also an arachnid, so related to spiders). There are thousands of different ones and most are omnivores, eating things as diverse as insects, fungi, plants and dead and decaying stuff. Probably not spag bol though. Phew.
Great episode, a night in a hammock is great, I haven't had the opportunity to test the whole night in a hammock yet, Mutcjack, I see that there are a lot of them in your area, in my place in Norfolk they walk on the sidewalk in the town in the forest, there are also a lot of them around the tents Take care 🏕️🧉
That cammo netting looks good. I've been wanting to do this with my motorbike for a while now, the netting might just be the final piece of the puzzle. Cheers
Lovely camp and video. Love the care you showed to the moth....awesome! I'm watching this as I'm halfway through my week on the Welsh Coastal Path, Fishguard to Newquay, just set up camp for the night, not in a hammock as I've got the dog with me. The weather has been mixed but today was gloriously warm. Your video is a wonderful way to end the day. 👍👍
Heyy ahh wow, proper adventure that! How nice to share it with your dog too 💚 I first started wild camping with my dog (before I stared the channel), we had the best times out together. Hope the rest of your trip is amazing, looks like you have a few nice weather days coming :D thank you for watching my lil video, happy trails friend 🌿🌿

I've been camping since the early 80's, as a Cadet, then in the military and now roof top tent camping - I have been all over the Brecon Beacons, Dartmoor, Lake and Peak District, Snowdonia and there is something so magical about it and a feeling that never leaves you. It allows me to do a lot of photography and filming and appreciate the finer things in life - it is so refreshing seeing you bringing these delights to so many and keeping the magic going - May it long continue, keep well and stay safe and thank you.
I love your videos, your calmness and the way you approach things. I myself are a total newbie in camping. Maybe you could one day share about your meals, that you heat up. How do you keep them without cooling. Take care and stay safe.
Very nice, Claire. It was nice seeing you out in nice spring weather. Also, nice to see you out without the wind and rain. I had to laugh, you trying to set up your camp and be so stealthy, lower the hammock, put up the camo netting, then put up your lights. I suppose if those were walking trails, there wouldn't be many walkers after dark. You're a beautiful, courageous young lady. It will be nice to see what you have in store for us this spring and summer. God bless you, young lady, and stay safe on your adventures.

Fab vid Claire. Amazing camo nets for bare woodland leaf surroundings. Tip for hammock sleeping is to position head and feet diagonally which reduces the bend of your back. Also a foam mat in there helps (can cut mat corners off if you want). Inspired me to get mine out again xx
Happy Tukkaiyyd day, WB! One thing I discovered recently, after 40 years of hammock camping. If you lay on it on a 30° angle to the rope, you can lay very flat and straight. Made my favorite Denim hammock even better. Godbless!
Where I live you have to have a tarp or some kind of roof over your head at night are you will wake up feeling like it tained on you because of the heavy dew we have around here. Glad to see that you are doing well! Thanks for sharing your camping adventures with us.
Used to this quite often a few years ago with a couple friends of mine. String the hammocks up in a sort of triangle formation - each one under an Australian hoochie tarp then chuck a cammo' net over.
Hey there Claire, nice of you dropping in. Thar hammock was a bit of a stretch but worked out well. Nice and comfy. Great to hang out with you, another inspiring video. Cheers, Rich
I had no idea there were muntjacs in the UK. We have them here in Taiwan and their call is very similar, like a cross between a dog's bark and a crow's caw.
Try a tarp in a snakeskin cover, with guy lines attached. You could then string it up over you but leave it in the snakeskin until it rains. Its a 2 min job to pull it out and deploy. Great video x
What a wonderful adventure! I have not seen a stealth hammoc camp before. Very cleverly done! Thank you for the fun bloopers. So fun! See you in the next video.
Claire, I had to giggle more than a few times watching you put up your hammock. Been there more times than I care to admit. But, there is something to be had when everything finally works, you fall in, and all is right in the world! 😃
Hey my lovely wild friend! What a relaxing little camp, that looked amazing! So lovely to see the sunshine and actual, real life signs of spring! Finally!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Sudoku is my favorite, I am horrible at them, but I enjoy trying.😅 Claire you are such a sneaky little bear.😊 You are so good at camouflage it’s amazing, the deer didn’t even know.😊 You are so brave out there all alone.
Hi Clare. I recently went to my local camping shop. I asked the assistant where their camouflage jackets were. She replied ..... they're good aren't they.
Camo netting can be really effective, and you seem to have just the right colour, but just a few sticks, and leaves can really break up the straight lines, and the solid patch of net. I adore hammock camping now. There’s a learning curve, but it’s worth it.
Nice to see you back out looked nice and dry hope you enjoyed your self no frank with you never mind looked a nice night stay safe one life enjoy blessed be
Efficient relaxing in a hammock takes practice...and it's always good to practice! Get the spacing dialed in, make a thing called a structural ridge line and you can hang your hammock in minutes, toss a tarp over it and regardless of the weather sit back, chill out, cook, do whatever. I use one in all conditions from 100F/38C to 10F/-12C. We have snow, rain, insane storms, but set it up right and it's the way to go. Of course I'm a little (as in WAY) farther off trail than that!
Nice…try a ridge line permanently attached to the hammock for a consistent hang there is a lot of information about that online…from lots of US Army experience put your camouflage touching the ground and try not making it in straight lines along the top. The lamps lights and cooking stoves are not stealthy but by night the day walking is done anyway. Have fun stay safe.
Claire you have done it again- success! This was a treat- I like the idea of a natural reset, essential for a healthy state of mind. Good thing that even the dogs didn’t notice. Well done my good friend ❤🌱🌿🧘🏼🙏
Glad to see you camping in some decent weather for a change. My son always takes a hammock when he’s solo camps. We’ve always had hammocks at the house to relax in and he loves sleeping in one.
Hammock camping is awesome in the wild. A couple of tips I have found from trial and error...1st is to wrap around the tree at shoulder height to start and that is a good starting point to adjust the height. b) is to get in and be on a slight 10 degree angle from top to bottom, off kilter so to speak. I found placing a pillow under my knees helped too but at 6'2 that might be due to my height and a dodgy knee. Sleeping bannana style isn't good for the knees. A tarp over the top definitely helps too and also gives a small amount of protection from widow makers. Lastly, an underblanket keeps the chill from underneath getting to your back, legs and arse when sleeping. A midge net included in the hammock is a bonus too. FWIW I have a few vids on my channel of hammock camping to give you an idea.
Well done another great adventure. Have a tip for you. I spotted when you wanted to get the hammock higher you pushed the tree huggers' up Well you had whoopee slings on the end of the hammock and you can raise and lower it with them. I'm assuming the hammock is new and you haven't used it before because I watch all your videos and don't remember you ever in one before. However, all that being said you did a great job. 👍👍👍👍
I love camping, and the topics of Ms Claire's videos resonate with me. All I can say is that I reaisze the creation of these videos is very tine and skill intensive - so thanks - please keep it up!
Well done Claire, you did a great job this being your first try. I love hearing the birds but I don't know what kind they are. I like to do card games when I camp. Thank you for sharing this wonderful trip. Have a wonderful day and stay safe.
I love hammock camping. I have several different kinds and I'd recommend the double size. It's still for a single person, but gives you more lay options and holds your sleeping gear in.
I bet when you were a kid you liked making pillow and blanket forts because that's the vibe I get here. It's nice... I like this feeling or memory you inspire. 😊

Hi. As a long-time hammock camper, I think the best way to be comfortable in a gathered end hammock like yours is to get a diagonal lay.

Happy May. Hammocks can be so comfy. Thanks, Claire. ✌🏽
love the camouflage nets they made your hiding place invisible, that colour is perfect for this time of year. thanks for another great video Claire 😀
I had no idea there were muntjacs in the UK. We have them here in Taiwan and their call is very similar, like a cross between a dog's bark and a crow's caw.
I like the sound of the nature reset. Think we could all do with that🙃
Try a tarp in a snakeskin cover, with guy lines attached. You could then string it up over you but leave it in the snakeskin until it rains. Its a 2 min job to pull it out and deploy.
Great video x
Really enjoyed the adventure and your out takes. Thank you!
What a wonderful adventure!
I have not seen a stealth hammoc camp before. Very cleverly done!
Thank you for the fun bloopers. So fun!
See you in the next video.
Thank goodness, a new WildBeare. Something to watch finally.
Claire is awesome. A real deal. Thanks for your chanel, Claire and Steve Wallace are the best camping on you tube.
Thrilled to be mentioned in the same sentence as the legendary Steve Wallis 🤩 thank you :) 🌿
Claire, I had to giggle more than a few times watching you put up your hammock. Been there more times than I care to admit. But, there is something to be had when everything finally works, you fall in, and all is right in the world! 😃
Hey my lovely wild friend! What a relaxing little camp, that looked amazing! So lovely to see the sunshine and actual, real life signs of spring! Finally!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Sudoku is my favorite, I am horrible at them, but I enjoy trying.😅
Claire you are such a sneaky little bear.😊 You are so good at camouflage it’s amazing, the deer didn’t even know.😊
You are so brave out there all alone.
Hi Claire! Nice to enjoy another of your adventures. Take care. ❤
Hi Clare. I recently went to my local camping shop. I asked the assistant where their camouflage jackets were. She replied ..... they're good aren't they.
That's one of the best setups you've done Claire. Beautiful little ‘ nook’ stealthily formed!
Camo netting can be really effective, and you seem to have just the right colour, but just a few sticks, and leaves can really break up the straight lines, and the solid patch of net.
I adore hammock camping now. There’s a learning curve, but it’s worth it.
Nice to see you back out looked nice and dry hope you enjoyed your self no frank with you never mind looked a nice night stay safe one life enjoy blessed be
The most radiant, humbly beautiful camper out there…!!!!!!
Beautiful…Smart & cozy…What a great combo 👍🏻🤩🌞😎
I just spent the weekend camped in a spot very much like this one. Hope you enjoyed your camp. Another outstanding video! ❤
Thank you for making videos, I really enjoy seeing those. They feel cute, genuine, warm and fresh air.
I love stealth camping too. I enjoy your videos on this type of camping as well. Thank you Claire. Love from Texas ❤❤❤❤
It's great fun isn't it :D thanks for watching, best wishes from England 🌿🐻
One thing to note is there are very few horizontal lines in nature, so setting you ghillie tarp at an angle may help visibility
That camo netting was cool, must get. Loved the end bit, non spoiler, I did wonder how you did it.
Hi Claire, I just watched this your latest camping adventure as I’m in my tent in the west Australian bush close to home. Aaagh the simple pleasures.
Nice lil video. Loved it. Like the camouflage, and your quirkiness. 🤘❣
Thank you beary beary beare ❤ your videos are so cute and cozy just like you😊😊🌻🌻🌹🌿🌿 keep up the good work. Love to see some cave camping videos ❤
Should definitely get a Hennessy haddock lightweight. Easy to setup and the most comfortable lay ❤
Cute editing . Another big smile . Thanks again
Awesome video. I have never in my 75 years figured out to be comfortable in a hammock. You continue to be inspirationally adventurous!! Best regards.
Thanks! Ohh really! I can never seem to get them quite right but still find them real comfy :) thank you for watching, have a great week 🌿
I knew it was going to be a fun episode, when I saw the camo netting in the intro. lol You picked the right colour, for the environment.
loving those out takes
Wild bearer what an angel .loved her for years. You go girl😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Beauty returns to the great outdoors. I love using the hammock. Definitely more comfortable than the ground
Well done Claire, you did a great job this being your first try. I love hearing the birds but I don't know what kind they are. I like to do card games when I camp. Thank you for sharing this wonderful trip. Have a wonderful day and stay safe.
Good luck on your future hammock x
This video was so much fun, I loved it!
I love hammock camping. I have several different kinds and I'd recommend the double size. It's still for a single person, but gives you more lay options and holds your sleeping gear in.
«Little nature reset»-a very nice expression. :)
Clair , I'm glade you had a rain free night and got some good rest .
Love the bloopers!
I would 100% suggest switching to jungle knots for your ridgeline. Gives you so many more options and is so much quicker to set-up.
That was a harvestmen nom nom nomming on a woodlouse, btw. 😉 Great videos. Love stealth camping!
I bet when you were a kid you liked making pillow and blanket forts because that's the vibe I get here. It's nice... I like this feeling or memory you inspire. 😊
ahh yes absolutely, pillow and blanket forts and dens in the woods, never grew out of it haha, such fun 😍 thanks for watching my lil video :)
I love the way you solve problems and even discomforts! And your disposition is always pleasant!
😊hi joung lady that sudoku book I myself keep my brain working on the 1 to 9 figures in the square boxes.
