    2024 Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 this beautiful Fijian song brings back fond memories of my
    Mum, who was a sporting champion for their team Aotearoa in 1952. Thanks to The Seekers
    for making all things possible 😌 for people like me.❤...😊

    OMG... considering the fact that this is an indigenous Fijian song sang in I'Taukei language, The Seekers nailed it!! Fantabulous indeed!! I love it.

      Alternatively, "Isa Lei" is the Fijian version of a Tongan love song ("Ise Isa viola lose hina") used to court the then Princess Salote (later Queen Salote). It was written in 1915 and was heard by a visiting Fijian sergeant. From there, the Fijians adopted it to a farewell song, but they kept the Tongan melody.[4][5]

      @@GreaterGood2024 It is definitely not Hawain, though it is Polynesian. There are no Bs or Ds in Hawaiian. My first thought was that it could be Māori, the native language of New Zealand's first people, believed by many to be the people from whom all other Polynesians sprang. However Wikipedia says it is debated as to whether Isa Lei is a originally a Fijian love song or Tongan. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isa_Lei ) Perhaps the Tongans wrote the original version and the Fijians popularized it, turning it from purely a love song to a farewell song. Wikipedia has the majestic lyrics of both versions of the song.

    I feel like I've lost an old friend. The Seekers' music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I finally got to see them in Sheffield in 1993ish. Be still, my beating heart. That concert remains one of my favourite ever memories. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Judith, especially Beverly, Atholl, Bruce and Keith. 💔💖

    Wonder if any of them still remember the words and can still sing it like this? I'd bet at least one of them can! What contemporary group would go to the time and trouble to learn the words to a song like this? Then and now these folks are remarkable! Probably wont be fully appreciated until much later, but there are still fans emerging now once they get captivated by the Seekers Sound, thankfully!

    Isa, Isa you are my only treasure;
    Must you leave me, so lonely and foresaken?
    As the roses will miss the sun at dawning,
    Every moment my heart for you is yearning.
    Isa Lei, the purple shadow falling,
    Sad the morrow will dawn upon my sorrow;
    O, forget not, when you're far away,
    Precious moments beside dear Suva.
    Isa, Isa, my heart was filled with pleasure,
    From the moment I heard your tender greeting;
    'Mid the sunshine, we spent the hours together,
    Now so swiftly those happy hours are fleeting.

    This is one of my most favorite songs. When I was teenager, I heard this song for the first time, sang in Japanese by Japanese 3 ladies unit Three Graces through a TV program "Songs for All" of NHK. As for me, perhaps this video is the one sang in Fizzy, I think, this song in this language let me feel pacific ocean wind, like hearing Tagalog (I can not speak and understand, however.). Sayonara owakare ne Isa lei. Ashita wa funade suru hi ne.....this is the beginning of Japanese lyrics, that I had heard in my junior days. What is sorrow, there can not be found the olden Japanese content of this song broadcasted by NHK, even NHK itself can not retrieve the source video, I heard.

    Mocelolo, bua, na kukuwalu
    Lagakali, maba na rosi damu
    Isa Lei (Isa Lei), na noqu rarawa
    Ni ki sana vodo e na mataka
    Bau nanuma, na nodatou lasa
    Mai Suva nanuma tiko ga
    Mai Suva nanuma tiko ga
    (Translation:)
    Isa, you are my only treasure
    Must you leave me, so lonely and forsaken?
    As the roses will miss the sun at dawn,
    Every moment my heart for you is yearning.
    [Chorus:]
    Isa lei, the purple shadow falling,
    Sad the morrow will dawn upon my sorrow,
    Oh forget not, when you're far away
    Precious moments at Suva.1
    Isa, my heart was filled with pleasure
    From the moment I heard your tender heart greeting
    Mid the sunshine, we spent the hours together,
    Now so swiftly those happy hours are fleeting.
    [Chorus]
    Over the ocean your island home is calling
    Happy country where roses bloom and splender,
    Oh if I could but journey there beside you
    Then forever my heart would sing in rapture.
    [Chorus]

    If I was old enough during those days I would certainly marry that girl, unfortunately I was only 7! Hmm great song sung by great singers and to cap it off the lyrics were spot on on pronunciation! These days we tend to sing two verses only and the rest are fast disappearing, again thanks to the seekers and another of their great tune!

    lovely performance by the Seekers and the ever exquisite Judith,
    but a shame they didn't have any native Fijian dancers.
