- Isa Isa vulagi lasa dina
Nomu lako au na rarawa kina
Cava beka ko a mai cakava,
Nomu lako au na sega ni lasa.
Isa Lei, na noqu rarawa,
Ni ko sana vodo e na mataka
Bau nanuma, na nodatou lasa,
Mai Ovalau nanuma tiko ga.
Vanua rogo na nomuni vanua,
Kena ca ni levu tu na ua,
Lomaqu voli me'u bau butuka
Tovolea ke balavu na bula.
Isa Lei, na noqu rarawa,
Ni ko sana vodo e na mataka
Bau nanuma, na nodatou lasa,
Mai Suva nanuma tiko ga.
Domoni dina na nomu yanuyanu,
Kena kau wale na salusalu,
Mocelolo, bua, na kukuwalu,
Lagakali, maba na rosi damu.
Isa Lei, na noqu rarawa,
Ni ko sana vodo e na mataka
Bau nanuma, na nodatou lasa,
Mai Ovalau nanuma tiko ga.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Isa, Isa you are my only treasure;
Must you leave me, so lonely and foresaken?
As the roses will miss the sun at dawning,
Every moment my heart for you is yearning.
Isa Lei, the purple shadow falling,
Sad the morrow will dawn upon my sorrow;
O, forget not, when you're far away,
Precious moments beside dear Ovalau.
Isa, Isa, my heart was filled with pleasure,
From the moment I heard your tender greeting;
'Mid the sunshine, we spent the hours together,
Now so swiftly those happy hours are fleeting.
Isa Lei, the purple shadow falling,
Sad the morrow will dawn upon my sorrow;
O, forget not, when you're far away,
Precious moments beside dear Ovalau.
O'er the ocean your island home is calling,
Happy country where roses bloom in splendour;
O, if I could but journey there beside you,
Then forever my heart would sing in rapture.
Isa Lei, the purple shadow falling,
Sad the morrow will dawn upon my sorrow;
O, forget not, when you're far away,
Precious moments beside dear Ovalau.
When my eldest sister went on scholarship to Fiji, she came back after her graduation with a scroll of this song on it. She gifted that scroll to my grandmother and my grandmother, hung the scroll by her bedside. When she passed away, we realized that the gift meant so much to my grandmother as it was the first gift from any of her grandchildren from the country a scholarship was attended to by one of her many grandchildren. It hangs to this day next to her bed still in her house. No matter, which one of all of us her decendants sleep in the house or visits and stays there. The scroll with this song on it remains in my Grandmother's house here in Samoa. All in all, I have so much respect for this song as it was the only foreign song that I had ever heard my grandmother sing. She then said after, it had beautiful words. ❤❤ miss you grandma, will see you again. Love you always.
Truly Fijian hospitality
Im not fijian but lived in fiji for 6 years. For some reason i feel home whenever i go back to fiji for a visit. Fiji always in my heart
I'm not Fijian, but everytime I hear this song, I cry.
Great song .Takes me back when I use to take Church groups and lots of charter trips to Suva and use to hear this . Never missed any Village . I was a third gen left Fiji in 1975. I still miss Fiji and Lautoka General Transport Co. This song will live forever.
i just wondering why tis way of singing is not possible anymore today........................................

My home from seven till sixteen, I'll never forget going to church , and the singing, and leaving Fiji was one of the hardest moves.
I love Fiji ❤ the song is deep farewell, stating that you will be gone but your departure marks the beginning of our sorrow as we are hurt and miss you! Classic Fijian people I love you all so much ❤
