    So today was my second day back on Koh Samui in 5 years and I was very curious to see if I could find some more authentic local Thai street food at reasonable prices so I headed down to one of my favourite spots, Nathon Beach.
    A big thank you to Lawrence from Buildaspace.com.au for sponsoring today's video!
    First I got a very unique pink fried rice dish called Khao Pad Moo Daeng and a Kuay Teow Tom Yum at Pui Yok ปุยหยก. The rice was comforting and well cooked and the noodles were top notch.
    I can imagine parents taking their kids down here for the rice in a weekend and then the kids taking their kids when they’re older. It’s that kind of place.

    In my opinion, Samui still has some great options for anyone serious about Thai street food, you just need to get away from Chewang, Lamai and Bophut. I want to give you options no matter where you are in Koh Samui so you can always enjoy some amazing local Thai food.

    My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this TH-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
    I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
    If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

    Really appreciate your explanations of the condiments (krueng) with soups and fried rice. In my first introduction to Thai food, 40+ years back, my friend explained the importance of balancing the prime flavors - sweet, salty, sour and spicy- to enjoy the most authentic and delicious Thai dining experiences.

    the egg on that red rice is very well fried, that's how I like to eat it..not only the island has developed, but all of Thailand if I compare that with when I first arrived in the 80s.only the food remains about the same .Yes, everyone has their own taste, that's what the ingredients are for on the table. with the little one it is definitely recommended to take a plane Gary 👍

    Koh Samui is a favorite of mine. I was lucky to have Thai friends that were working there and had the inside scoop on where to go. There used to be a weekly night market right at the Nathon pier. Don’t know if it’s still there? Chaweng is fun don’t want to stay there very long. Plenty of chill places on the island and everyone is very nice 😊

    If you're going solo from Bangkok, I'd recommend what I did. Especially if you despise airports. I took the Bangkok night train to Chumphon then a bus to the pier and a boat to Koh Tao except you can take the train to Surat Thani then a bus to the pier and finally a boat to Koh Samui's Nathon pier. Either way is an adventure worth trying at least once.

    • @helee28
      @helee28 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How do you say pier to the bus conductor? Or just say ferry ?

    • @WushuTaz
      @WushuTaz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@helee28 Hi Helee, you can just say ferry. Most buses from the train station are owned by the ferry company called Lomprayah Ferry. You can purchase a Bus+Ferry combination ticket ahead of time from 12GO. That is what I did. Keep in mind, if you're taking a train, they are almost always late getting to their destination. I took the night train from Bangkok to Chumphon and it got to Chumphon 2 hours late. Luckily, my Bus wasn't scheduled to pick me up for 1 more hour. Make sure you plan on being at least 2 hours late to your destination if traveling by train.

    • @helee28
      @helee28 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WushuTaz Thanks Bryan. I've done this before, but the first bus that picks up from Surat Thani station, the conductor was very confused at what I was saying but it's my fault, I said "raja ferry office" thanks to info I found on a random blog. Now I know I can just go straight to the ferry and get tickets. Sea tran is definitely my favourite 😌

    • @WushuTaz
      @WushuTaz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@helee28 That's too funny. I have yet to try Sea tran since they were still not doing boat rides due to Covid until recently. I'll give them a go next time.

    But before we fly to Samui, we are some days in Bangkok: Can you recommend a car company to drive us from BKK to KSR? As our daughter will be 2 years old, a car with child seat feels safer to us than a regular/large taxi. Thanks 😀
