i know what you mean and that's a good Q?, but back in the 60"s,70's,80's and even 90's famous singers sound good and the same when there live cause they don't use audio tunes in their song recordings , unlike some singers today; but your right some singers back then backing track their live song performance even Cathy Dennis and that is a big disappointment for the live fan audiences if that's what you mean.
Cathy Dennis was a great singer but This was the TIME of singers using auto tune and enhancements. Someone like Paula Abdul would have never had a recording career without the help of technology and backup vocals by better voices. That’s what made Cathy Dennis a standout. She could do it for real. So yeah. This was not the time “before auto tune” lol
Another thing I don't understand about this performance is the choreography. They have there only dancer stuck in the back corner...nonsensical and she did absolutely nothing for the performance.
It was a weird set up for the dancer , it was a woman called Priscilla Samuels who worked with Cathy loads in the early 90s. Priscilla could really move but the position on such a large stage was wrong plus in past performances there's been 2 or 4 dancers which has worked way better

(Edit: I can hear that she is singing over a lead vocal track) I don't think the musicians are really playing, either that the video is out of synch because that guitarist doesn't really have a part in the whole song. Plus, none of the keyboardist are playing the bass line. One is playing the clavichord part and the other one is playing the strings.
