    Hi Liz. I just finished doing my nails with the overlay technique and my nails are super strong. The gel application was so smooth. Thank you so much for your videos. 👍👍👍

      Hi rona
      Where did you purchase the products for gel overlay? Also do you need a dust collector for that? Thanks!

    I absolutely love doing an Gel Overlay on my natural nails. I'm able to keep them a longer length without them breaking, plus it's really nice to have underneath darker regular polish, because it doesn't stain on the gel (being that our natural nails are more porous :) )

    I was about to throw away all my gels I was so discouraged trying to do my own nails for years. I tried this technique laying the gel only on the middle of the finger instead or all over the nail bed and finally!!!!!! I have never taken such a short amount of time to do my nails and the result is not only beautiful it's amazing!!!! Thank you so very much for this video!

    Id like to thank you so much for doing such in depth tutorials online, you help so many people like myself who did classes but didn't feel like I got enough knowledge from them in order to be confident enough with my work to pursue nails as a career. With these videos its amazing because we can constantly refresh ourselves to make sure we are doing nails the correct way. I love how much you specify how important your prep work is and also the health and safety surrounding doing nails as I found not everywhere focus on how important this is. I love your videos and i look forward to seeing more.

    So glad I found this channel. I stopped going to gel my nails done at the salon. I was never entirely happy with the service I received and now I understand why. I learned so much from watching Liz's videos. I use to take a nail file with me to my appointments and fix my nails in the bathroom. I do overlays all the time now. I haven't perfected it but happier than when I got them done in a salon.

    Hi! Thank you for your lovely, detailed videos! Making me realize I have no business trying to do "at-home" gel nails from a kit. My nails are short, thin, and peel and break. I purchased the Zoya Gelie Cure kit and it didn't work for me, probably because I didn't know what I was doing. Do you have a suggestion for an at-home kit that's easy for the average person? Thanks in advance! :)

    If anyone can answer this question for me, I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m a DIYer and I’d like to try hard gel instead of my usual soak off but I’m a bit confused. I ordered the IBD hard gel intro kit and there are two different clear gels included. One says builder gel-clear, and the other says builder gel-hard clear (though they are both listed as hard gels). Is one meant to be a base? There’s nothing listed as base gel in the kit… has anyone else used it before and know what I’m referring to?

    Hi Liz, I've been binge watching all week, I've learned so much from you, thank you for being so thorough with every technique. I really am enjoying all the information, I hope to feel comfortable to at least do my families nails as well as my own. I actually just came into this due to covid regulations about staying home. I'm 60yrs old, and if I could do this for family & friends, it would help me to focus on something during the winter months as I'm an avid gardener.

    Because of your videos, I am an acrylic to gel convert. I am brand new at hard gels and I am wondering about overlay application… Your side walls are nice and thin. With acrylic application, if the product to thin it will lift. Is this the case with hard gel as well? Thank you so much for everything!

      i know your reply was almost a year ago, but i thought i could offer an answer! i use IBD gel builder now and I'm just starting out! it works really good! I just make sure I keep everything within the same family (ibd bonder, hard gel, ibd sealer) because i'm not too familiar with the chemical makeup of the products yet. there's also an IBD gel set on sally's and amazon that includes the builder gel, white, clear, and pink hard gel, brush, wipes, bonder,and the cleanser that removes the tacky layer. good luck !

    HELP: I have followed your instructions and watched your video carefully and done everything step by step but my free edge starts to come off literally 2 to 3 days after I do my manicure. I’ve tried 3 time one of those tries I even did one hand with base coat and one without to see if there was any difference and it was the same issue. My nails are short like your clients and they break very easy no matter what I do. I’m tired of paying for acrylics and wanted my natural nails to grow and finding clean gel overlay, I thought i could use this to give my nails some strength to grow and stay long but it sucks that it won’t last more than 3 days. It bubbles at my free edge and chips off. Any ideas on how to stop this?

    Great video Liz! I’m doing a gel overlay this week on a new client so this video is super helpful. Question: why did you decide not to cleanse the nail after e-filing and prior to applying your slip gel? Just wondering if this depends on the gel polish brand you’re using whether or not you cleanse vs dust off the nail. Thanks! Christina

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      There's no oils or bacteria and you're working right on top of finish filed gel so you can just dust off. No need to cleanse. I also prefer to do it this way so there's no potential fuzz from the wipes.

    Thanks. I haven’t done my nails in probably 2 years and had forgotten what to do, but a couple of days ago I smashed my natural nail straight into the wooden edge of a garden bed and the break line is a good 1/4 inch down the nail bed. It’s lifting enough on the edge that it will catch in my hair etc, but if I try to pull it off it’s going to be bloody. So I have to do an overlay until it grows out enough to cut off. It’s not going to be as neat as yours as I’ll need a bump over the crack. Meh. Better than a massacre lol.

    I have one issue with hard and soft gels. With hard- my natural nail unsticks and curls up under on the free edge. The soft gel just cracks. My natural nails had always been soft and bendy. Not sure what to do. I cut free edge under the hard gel and moisturise multiple times per day, but would love to know if there is a solution so that my natural nail can actually stay sticked on the free edge.

      @@leB584 hi! Yes it has eliminated lifting for me entirely. I have been doing my nails at home for about 3 years now. I basically do an overlay with gel or polygel and then use my e-file underneath and remove the natural nail growth every time I do a fill.

      I’d be interested in this also for personal use. I mentioned elsewhere but I have nail pitting from psoriasis and I’m intending to try doing an overlay just to smooth everything out. (My nails are also fairly strong so for the length I like I don’t need tips.) Some of my nails have a bit of a less than ideal shape from years of having psoriasis and also nail biting (which I’ve finally stopped) so it would be nice to see how to tidy that up.

    Excellent tutorial, I’ve learned a lot. I’m new to using gel, and most of my colour collection is nail polish not gel...am I able to use regular polish on an overlay with a gel top coat?

      Yes just remember to allow the regular polish to dry for 24-48 hrs

    Hi .. do you do a refill on these as the nature nail grows or soak of the hole lot and start again fresh ?

    Liz, could you please make a video on how to choose the file grain for artificial and natural nails? Thank you so much, you’re such a great teacher!

      I usually tell people just get something in the middle so you can use it on everything. I use 180 grit on everything I do so I don't have to buy multiple grits/files. As a professional nail tech who has to budget every dime it's important to be efficient and I have found that 180 is gentle enough for natural nails as well as powerful enough for filing on gel.

    Thank you so much for all the explanations you provide. I am new to the gel applications because most of my clientele want nontoxic or no polish whatsoever. But I have started using Biosculpture and am having issues with the dips in the center - and now I know why!!! :) TY TY TY!

    What if someone wanted a clear gel manicure

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could totally leave the overlay clear and apply top coat

    THOSE ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS / PERFECT NAILS !!!!!! BUT IT SOUNDS WEIRD TO KEEP A MOHAWK IN THE CENTER AND THIN OUT THE SIDES OF THE NAIL // WHEN IN FACT WE USUALLY BREAK OUR NAILS FROM THE SIDES / CRACKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
