Yay! Another amazing video. When I first started doing my nails I’d chase that white line of imaginary lifting it’s so funny that you mentioned that. 😂 Thank you for all the different angles you provide, they do not go unappreciated! Especially when you bevel the tip to adjust the thickness. Everyone says the angle, but seeing it helps because I start to second guess how I’m going in. Thank you!
yes!!! there’s always something she mentions that we rasonate with, omg she’s so experienced and educated with incredible comunication skills, i love her!
I'm 55 now and made the decision to make a career change 6 years ago. I went back to school and became a nail technician. I own my own business, a mobile nail salon that services men and women over the age of 50. I love it!! Best decision I ever made. Wish I had done it sooner! Your videos have helped me sooo much. I don't have girlfriends that do nails, so I have nobody to talk to about my work. I can't tell you enough how much I've learned watching you work. Thank you so much😊
Thanks Liz. I am one of those people wanting everything to be perfect at every stage. Even though I only do my own nails I don't want it to take hours. To stop focusing on the small stuff and moving on to the next step is a really big deal. Showing exactly what I will see and what to ignore is priceless. As usual you rock!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I do exclusively gel on my nails now and have learned so much from you and Suzie over at Nail Career Education. That is where I actually first learned of you and now look forward to what you will teach us next! ❤
Alyssa Sipe I have the same story as you! Exclusive hard gel here (gave away all of my other products)...found the nail hub via Suzie. So thankful for Liz!!! 💜💚💙
Omg I learned so much! I love your videos. Being almost 100% self taught even after nail school (🙄) I find your videos way more informative than anything else I’ve experienced/seen. You are an angel for offering this info for free. Thank you!
I'm in the exact same situation!! School taught me absolutely nothing either. So many of us would be nobody without you Liz! Thank you for giving us the confidence to understand the why and how of our job!
Wow. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You are an amazing educator. I really appreciate how detailed your explanations are. You don’t just do, you explain why and how you do. I have gained so much confidence watching your videos. Thank you for explaining everything as though we’ve never ever touched any of the products and are starting from scratch. Keep up the amazing work Liz. You’re a treasure
So happy when I see a new video from you, just know I'm going to learn something new every time.thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos as I know me and many others appreciate it.
Thought it was funny when you said "don't judge me" because the last thing I ask myself when I've finished is "what would Liz think?". Gold standard right there!
Im so thankful for your gel series here on YT! I cannot afford to go to shows/classes so these have been SO helpful. I have a client who had "claw" nails. I wasnt sure how to correct them but by clipping the nail off and rebuilding new one. Bice to know I dont have to waste time doing that anymore. Great video! TFS!!
You’re so amazing. I have always had lifting issues on my DIY jobs, and even with professional services, because of my nail composition. Watching your videos has allowed me to assess my nail type and do gel manicures that last for weeks and weeks, when before I would have lifting in days due to lack of knowledge of accurate prep and gel types. I’m still learning, but I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to maintain beautiful gel nails when I previously thought it just wasn’t possible for me. I’ve been backfilling my nails for about a month now instead of doing full soak off removal and it’s just the best for the integrity of the nail (and it saves me so much time as well). I can’t thank you enough for this series!
This is easily the best tutorial! Thank you for the detail explanation and taking it step by step. The camera/footage is also very close up to the nail and shows a lot of detail! Many other tutorials are really rushed and this detailed real-time one is exactly what I needed
Thank you! I can't tell you how many times I've tried chasing that tiny white line of "lifting" with my file. You've saved me so much grief in this video!!! 🥰
I did my first incredibly successful backfill. when I tell you: filing off the loose gel, the inhibition layer, the wet layer, the final layer and the file down (I use ceramic bits) was an absolute success. I also successfully filed down the bulkly free edges of other nails. This was successful all because of your teaching I am forever grateful!
As I'm going to be doing my first gel overlay refill tonight, this couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you, Liz. "The Nail Hub - Excellence as Standard".
Such an amazing video. Your ability to describe where even a completely untrained, at home watcher, understands and sees exactly what youre referring to is great. And your camera work is fantastic!!! I am so sick of watching videos where i cant see up close enough or whatever to see exactly the result of what they just did. But yours is so good that i can SEE it happening and its like a light bulb going off! I dont do anything more than dip powder on my natural nails. But i learned so much on efile technique, cuticle clean up and even painting the nail by watching you. I cant even do that as cleanly as id like. So im working on it. I have learned so much from binge watching you today. Thank you so much. Keep doing what you do. I dont understand why you dont have more subs!
I know this is an old post but I just found this , I’ve been doing my own nails for a few years , just trying diy… but I’ve learned so much in just one video , thank you
Thank you for the video and it makes a lot of sense. I wish there was a way to do this with soak off stick on nails as there is always necessary filing after they are off.
Thank you for making this. You have no idea how many videos I watched that were not what I was looking for before finding this one which explains it all nicely and shows precisely. I appreciate it.
I always love how detailed your explanations are and how easy you make it look. I've been following your tips and tricks on filing and I noticed this past set that it took me a lot less time, which means more weekend to enjoy! Thanks, Liz!
Wow, amazing video. I've been doing my own rubber base gel overlays for a couple years now (I actually put normal polish over it to swap the color easily!) and watch videos constantly to learn more. When I tell you I somehow still managed to learn SO much from this video. I'm amazed! You answered questions I've had for a while. Thank you!
Girl....where have I been? I'm hook now. Absolutely love this video. Been trying to do my own nails and needed someone to walk me through it. You are so thorough! Love it! 🥰
You earned yourself a new subscriber, you really were so descriptive & explaining, I just am so happy to learn the reasons also for why you file the way you, I don't think anyone has explained or shown how to e-file, and how not to file the natural nails and get rid of lifting. 😅😅
I have learned SOO much from your videos! Thank you so much for being so good at why you do! I have had my cosmetology license for over 10 years, concentrating mostly on waxing and skin care and have recently fallen in love with gel nails! Thank you so much!
Thank you Liz, for this amazing series. It has helped me so much on my nail journey. In fact, my work is lasting more than ever, and there are less and less chipping and lifting now. My e-file skills have improved ten times more. Thank you so much.
Thanks Liz for your amazing videos. I'm not a nail tech but I have never liked how my nails were done. Now, I know why and started doing my own nails. I recently got lazy and let the salon that does my pedicures, do my manicure. Needless to say, my nails looked better when I went in than when I left. I've been following your videos and have learned so much. Thanks for the knowledge.
I love your videos. You give such good, clear explanation and direction. I'm the type that wants to know WHY you do a step and not just do this or that. I definitely want to switch from polygel to hard gels. I love the polygel, but I think I'm causing more damage to my nails by over filing it and into my natural nail. I don't use an e-file yet but I think I would be more comfortable with it. I'm very used to using one with a gentle touch making jewelry. Hope you are having a great day. Thank you so much. 💗💗💗
Hi I do my own nails with gel by learning from you, I have been taking of the gel until all the gel was removed from my natural nails which are very weak but not anymore this video is wonderful. Thanks
Let me tell you Your videos first hand helped with my application. That beaded layer allowed me to have the apex that is almost salon worthy. Im still working on perfection however Im almost there
Did my first fill today with builder gel in a bottle. Thanks for the education on using an e-file. They lady was amazed I wasn't hurting her with the file. Crazy what and how people do things.
So glad I found this video. I have natural long nails, but I have one nail that grow crooked, now I think I can actually fix my nail to not look crooked.
Thank you for these amazing videos. Thanks to you and your knowledge I was able to make a gel overlay yesterday for the first time in my life, I really wanted to have a nice curved apex because my nails are very straight. It looks amazing and it's only thanks to this incredible channel!
Another fantastic video, thanks.❤ I can't believe your discipline to grow out the gel and not have to fix it😅 Our gain of course, learning wise, much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m I home DIYer and have done 3 backfills following along with your video. I’ve noticed this time, that I’ve gotten some lifting/large bubbles in the backfill area. I didn’t buff my new nail before applying gel and that’s the only thing I can think of changing. Do you have any addition recommendations?
You are the best!! Love watching your vids! It is like going on a refreshment course, sometimes one for gets little details like where to place the drill on the nail! God bless!! 💞💅🏼🇿🇦🤗
More than enjoyed this video; will be rewatching again more than once I'm sure. Sooo informative!!! Thank you so much once again for this series😀. I feel like we should be paying you for this "course" 😉.
I've been doing this now for lifting. Total game changer. Because of Liz no more rings of fire, I have cut down my time with e-filing and I don't burn clients anymore. Win win for everyone.
Yeah it’s not just me. I have a girl crush. I’ve been married 50 years and never had a job just the FIVE KIDS 😂I love learning new things. I taught myself to read Arabic., but doing something with your hands is entirely different. I’m having a ball. I wish you were mobile I’d pay for a mani and a class. I’m in New York
Love this video! Cant wait to get my efile and get practising so I can remove lifting easier. I find it so hard with a hand file. The lifting keeps creeping up because or the yanking 🤣
Love love love your videos! 😍😍I am doing my own manicure at home and your in depth tutorials are incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for all the work put into developing these videos! You are a great teacher! 😍👍😁
just got my nail tech certification and the educator wasn’t very good even my models says she contradicted herself....she never taught me how to remove the product if i have a client that wants their nails removed....wish you were my teacher I like the fact the you explain alot of things...love your channel
Following your videos, I have done my first gel overlay and back filled it with a change to the design. The mowhawk tip works fabulously. I have a question though when i was removing the colour the hard gel underneath seemed to be cracking off in places, did i apply to thin?
Digging to China 😂🤣😂🤣! I love that analogy , simply because every student has done this 😜! Such an amazing teacher ! Have you thought of providing classes ? If so, let me know !! I would for sure attend ! 🥰
Thank you, Liz! Questions, of course... Are you using hard gel or soft gel (you indicated it can be soaked off, so I'm assuming soft)? On prep, should one use different speeds and bits, depending if you're using soft or hard gel? Regarding removal of the tip of the natural nail underneath, can that be done under a hard gel AND soft gel overlay, or would the soft not provide enough structure for that method (especially with a longer nail)?
Hi Michelle, remember that there are 2 ways to look at gel. One is soak off vs. non-soak off. The other is hard vs soft (which refers to the actually end feel or rigidity after curing). Just because a gel is soak off does not mean it isn't strong and vice versa. So to answer your question, yes, you can absolutely do this method with both hard gel and soak-off gel. And it also greatly depends on the thickness of your overlay and the actual "feel" or hardness of the gel itself. I am in fact filing off and backfilling a soak-off gel here. When filing on product I usually determine the speed based on the thickness of the product, not solely on the hardness/softness of the product itself. Also remember that the structure of the nail doesn't come from the free edge. It comes from the c-curve and the apex. The very free edge should not impact the durability of the service.
Hey I have a question about bits: how can you tell if you can use a bit both ways? Like I know that diamond bits and sanding bands can be used both ways but it’s hard to tell if ceramic and carbide bits can be used both left and right handed.
Usually you can tell because the flutes (aka teeth) will be straight up and down and will also be beveled on both sides. Whereas right or left handed bits are cut in one direction.
What are the pros and cons of the volcano bit, that you've used in previous overlay videos, versus the carbide cone bit that you used in this video, and which do you more strongly recommend?
Hola Liz!!!
Si no, avisame. Dejando un poco de color normalmente es algo que hago para hacer el servicio mas rapido especialmente para clientas frequentes, pero si te molesta o si te cause un problema puedes retirar todo dejando una capita delgada de base para proteger la una natural.
I love seeing new videos coming through from The Nail Hub, always so informative and I really like listening to you too, very soothing voice :) Question: For someone who does not have an e-file yet but wants to use soak-off builder gel to protect natural nails and aid in growth and strength, how do you file the natural nail from the free edge manually as you discuss in this video? Can it be done? Thanks!
Hi no it cannot really be done without an efile. You could use a c-curve tube that has a diamond end on it I suppose but that would be a little more complicated. If you're using a hand file then just bevel the edge by filing at a 45degree angle. It will help thin the edge of the natural nail underneath while leaving the gel alone.
You are the best Liz! I've been watching your channel for a while and recently started trying my hand at gel. So I felt like it was time to show you my gratitude for doing this series and mainly for your working and teaching ethics. Thank you! 😄 And a question: can I do an extension with forms on a nail without removing a previous overlay? Lots of love from Argentina 💜
Thank you for the love. And yes you absolutely can extend a nail. Just make sure all previous gel and layers are clean and prepped before encasing in more gel.
I loved this video, exactly what I needed for my clients wanting overlays. You are amazing! I am having a very hard time with application of certain pink builder gels (like akzent foundation gels) that dont self level at all. I feel like the u shape technique I use for more self leveling gels doesnt work with this kind of builder gels, and I have to file the application because it shows different colors since it's so uneven. Maybe you can make a video on the subject, would love that! Also do you have a suggestion on a good desk lamp or plan to sell some on the nail hub? I always buy from it!
thank you so much for showing this! question, when you apply your color after finish filing- do you add any kind of base gel/something to get that tacky layer to apply color? or do you just do color on top? thanks!
Nope just straight into color. Only time I’d use base coat is if I’m concerned about adhesion or scratches. Like if I’m going to do a French design I’d put base first so it’s perfectly smooth.
Thank you!

Dottie Mil I just did, I’m 52!
Jennifer Wong I’d love to hear about your business, if you don’t mind. I want to do the same. I’d love to hear from you. Lisa
I'm 60 and have done nails for 35 yrs now, and still love it!
Congratulations yall! I did the same! I went back to school at 40. I literally just passed my practical and got my license the other day!😊
Gooood idea!!
You are an amazing teacher. The best one on TH-cam!
Thanks Liz. I am one of those people wanting everything to be perfect at every stage. Even though I only do my own nails I don't want it to take hours. I love how gel nails and dentistry are kinda similar, very delicate work turned into art
So happy when I see a new video from you, just know I'm going to learn something new every time.thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos as I know me and many others appreciate it.
I appreciate so much that you gave a good explanation on how to use the e-file on natural nails. Perfect explanation & description, thank you!
Thought it was funny when you said "don't judge me" because the last thing I ask myself when I've finished is "what would Liz think?". Gold standard right there!

Very nice. I didn't know about filing before the lifted edge... Cool
I did my first incredibly successful backfill.
when I tell you: filing off the loose gel, the inhibition layer, the wet layer, the final layer and the file down (I use ceramic bits) was an absolute success.
I also successfully filed down the bulkly free edges of other nails.
This was successful all because of your teaching
I am forever grateful!
That is so awesome!!!! Makes me so happy to hear this.
Are the 2 wet layers that were applied after the first base layer both builder gel or base?
Such a good explanation, I do my own nails and I'm always learning. Thanks for all the valuable information!
This is probably the most thorough and helpful video I’ve seen about doing any type of nail work! ❤️

@@TheNailHub makes sense! Thanks so much for your wonderful explanation! Thank you, Liz!
You’re so amazing I love you thank you so much!!!!💖
Hey I have a question about bits: how can you tell if you can use a bit both ways? Like I know that diamond bits and sanding bands can be used both ways but it’s hard to tell if ceramic and carbide bits can be used both left and right handed.
Usually you can tell because the flutes (aka teeth) will be straight up and down and will also be beveled on both sides. Whereas right or left handed bits are cut in one direction.
What are the pros and cons of the volcano bit, that you've used in previous overlay videos, versus the carbide cone bit that you used in this video, and which do you more strongly recommend?
I love how detailed thus is!!
Thank you, SO MUCH.
Your just brilliant ,so clear on instructions, I'm learning lots Thank you 🌻
Hola Liz!!!
Si no, avisame. Dejando un poco de color normalmente es algo que hago para hacer el servicio mas rapido especialmente para clientas frequentes, pero si te molesta o si te cause un problema puedes retirar todo dejando una capita delgada de base para proteger la una natural.
I wish somebody did a video like this when I was learning ❤ such an amazing job and great help for fresh nail techs ❤
Great video! Thanks for all the info it helps alot. 💯💅🏼💖💖
Can't believe it! this is the video I was asking for 😍 thank you soooo much Liz all this info is so helpful for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😊
Excellent video, great information. Thank you!
You are the best Liz! I've been watching your channel for a while and recently started trying my hand at gel. So I felt like it was time to show you my gratitude for doing this series and mainly for your working and teaching ethics. Thank you! 😄
And a question: can I do an extension with forms on a nail without removing a previous overlay?
Lots of love from Argentina 💜
Thank you for the love. And yes you absolutely can extend a nail. Just make sure all previous gel and layers are clean and prepped before encasing in more gel.
@@TheNailHub Thanks for taking the time to respond! 😊
Thank you so much Liz!!
Hay Liz thanks so much for your time and information. I’m having a difficult time forming and sculpting on extreme nail bitten nails. Can you help.
Fabulous video!! I learned so much from this💅
I wish you could be my teacher for everything you explain things so well thank you so much 😍👌🏽
Oh pretty girl, thank you so much from Germany. Now I know to do my nails better
@@TheNailHub okay cool thank you so much!
