  • My friends have had to have the thermostat housing replaced repeatedly on their 2009 Chrysler Town and Country minivan with 3.8L engine, but each time the new plastic housing didn't last very long. In this video I evaluate the possibility of using a steel thermostat housing from a 2006 Chrysler Minivan with 3.3L engine instead. Should also apply to some Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager models as well. Hopefully this will prevent future leaks.

In the end I used the 2006 model metal thermostat housing, 2006 thermostat (they were different) and 2006 model gasket. I did not use the 2006 torque specs (21 ft lb) because they were for a much larger thread diameter and I definitely didn't want to strip out the 6mm x 1.0 threads in the aluminum on the engine side. I was unable to find the torque spec for 2009 model so cut the 2006 value in half to 10 ft lb which seemed to work.
