      thanks man, but jamaica is tropical and knows how to deal with hurricanes. They usually know how to act and what to expect from a storm, these people in canada don't know this weather very well and we dont built our homes to withstand cyclones, just snow and rain.

    As someone who survived some of the worst storms in US history (Andrew, Katrina, Rita, Laura etc) and is a disaster first responder, my heart desperately goes out to all of these people effected by Fiona. The recovery & rebuilding is going to take years if not decades and they will need all the help and support they can get from anyone willing to lend a hand. I know this because my house just got finished being rebuilt from Laura after 6 giant oaks & pines fell on it and crushed half of it and much of my neighborhood and the area as a whole has only started to scratch the surface of rebuilding several years later. There are parts of New Orleans that were not done being rebuilt from Katrina when Delta rolled through and caused even more damage. if you can lend a hand physically, emotionally, or financially I ask you do so. you have no idea how big of a help it really is to receive a warm meal or a helping hand with cleanup & gutting houses when you have gone 30 days without power or water.

    • @philpaine3068
      @philpaine3068 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thankyou for your intelligent concern. Canadian first responders generally know their stuff, but it is a new thing for this part of Canada. Huge snowstorms are normal in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, but they don't sweep away houses. Unfortunately, these communities are historically tied to the sea --- fishing towns for centuries --- and the little salt-box houses are often perched right near the shore. Things will have to be rebuilt differently. But these are tough, resilient people. I know them. They'll be fine. If you've seen "Come From Away" you'll understand.

    • @CaptainCocktale
      @CaptainCocktale ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philpaine3068 being from S. Louisiana I understand all too well what it means to be tied to the water. We started elevating our homes close to the water long ago since storms like this are a regular occurrence. This will keep your house from flooding if the storm isn't a direct hit but there is almost zero you can do to atop a house being washed away when the storm is a direct hit. I've seen entire huge casinos and their hotels pushed off their foundations and entire towns where the only thing left is the concrete steps & slabs & in ground swimming pools. Riding out a storm like this and surviving it changes you at your core. I can tell you I'm a much different person than I was before hurricane Katrina, and I've changed even more since Laura. I hope the wider community is ready to help for the long haul & provide these people with the mental h emotional Healthcare they will be needing.

    Crazy stuff, but there don't appear to be much damage to the old saltbox houses , just the newer ones. they don't make like they used to. Imagine lifting and dragging a modern house down to the water, towing a few miles and dragging to it's new resting place without breaking the windows.

    We had quite a bad windy winter last year, here in Yorkshire. The winds were over 120mph and I lost 3 slates off my roof.
    Honestly Americans, why do you continue to build houses out of sticks in vulnerable places. Next to the ocean, you always get extremes of weather.
    We have these things in England called Bricks and Stones. When you join them together with a substance called Cement, it makes a wall of great strength. Our houses here in some places are over 250 years old and are still standing with people living in them.
    In the north of England we have a mountain range called the Pennines. My village is directly next to the Pennine Mountains and we get the worst of the weather and my house has been standing through several big storms for over the 75 years since it was built.

We don’t even close school for anything cat 3 or under. Fiona was like something out of a movie. The typical storm surges they have in the US are a weekly occurrence here. We have natural and man made breakwaters that withstand those easily. It doesn’t make the news because next to no damage is ever done. This was just classified as a tropical storm so we had NO IDEA what we were going to face. This was the strongest storm to ever hit Canada pressure wise.
