There's plenty of good in our island, but of course we are a tropical island, which means September is hurricane season and we get horrible hurricanes here. We also have a really corrupt government. But we also have really clean air, incredibly beautiful beaches, amazing food and people, among many other things. Puerto Rico is a natural gem, which just so happens to be plagued by hurricanes and corruption.
Literally nothing would change if they become a state. If anything, things would probably get worse. For example, Puerto Ricans currently don't need to pay taxes for the land they own, and we all know how much the US government love stuffing taxes down the citizens' throats. The one to blame is the PR government. It's very corrupt. They do minimal to invest in the improvement of PR and do maximum to stuff their own pockets. Unfortunately, that would probably never change. Also, why would you speak like that about PR? How would you feel if your house burned down or something and them someone tells you "sucks to be you"? And why does it affect you so much that PR isn't a state? If anything, you should be against it bc at least PR is full of wildlife and green. US would take PR and cover it in cement over time. Besides, don't act like the US is all that. In the US you're basically a slave. In PR, at least you have the freedom to own a house and land without paying taxes and you can do many different things to make money if you don't want a 9-5 without requiring nonsense by the government, with the success depending on how much effort you put into it. The US has way more flaws and has less freedom than in PR. The US just has a much better structure in terms of energy, gas, water, etc. Can't really name much else that US has better than PR.
