    We took the ferry from Port Aux Basques to Nova Scotia in 2019. We also had our dog and did exactly like you we gave pup at gravol. It was the hardest thing for us. We have never left her that long. But it was nice that the crew kept an eye on her.

    • @theRTWguys
      @theRTWguys  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely a tough decision to leave our furry friends behind during a long ferry journey, but it's great to hear that the crew was attentive and helped look after your pup during the trip. Traveling with pets can present its challenges, but it's heartwarming to know that there are caring people around to make the experience as smooth as possible. We hope you had a wonderful trip from Port Aux Basques to Nova Scotia and that you and your pup were able to enjoy the journey!

    I moved back to Newfoundland about 4 and a half months ago, the first time I moved here, I too took the ferry but the one that went overnight and booked a cabin on the ferry, the only thing that bothered me was when I used the in-cabin washroom, the toilet kinda scared me a little when it flushed because it make a loud whooshing sound as it flushes and that is what bothered me, I did not have to worry about seasickness because I spent almost 17 years in the Canadian Navy on ships that are on the pacific. Hey guys! Loved watching all your videos about Newfoundland as I am about to head there this summer. PLEASE let me know how you found your visit giving you have a pooch. My little girl will be staying in my campervan for the ferry rides, but I am wondering about the acceptance of dogs in parks, on hikes and in towns. Having lived in Europe, my two (trained) shepherds were accepted just about everywhere, including in restaurants. Here in Ontario/Canada the acceptance of dogs in public spaces is dismal. Would you be kind enough to send some advice for my little cockapoo girl and this senior? We love hiking and she is my new sidekick with whom I would like to share as much as possible. Thank you for your consideration. Keep safe, remain funny and all the best for your future adventures.

      Unfortunately, not likely at this time of year. Iceberg season is in the spring, usually from April through June, although there are sometimes a few late bergs drifting by in July or even into early August! Of course, as this is a natural phenomenon, there are no guarantees of dates or locations for spotting them. In 2019 and 2020, there were a large number of icebergs which came very close to Newfoundland's northeast and eastern shores so viewings from land were frequent and spectacular! In 2021, however, there were only a very few in our waters and, of those, only a handful could be spotted with binoculars. It was an odd year, for sure! Perhaps the bergs were unable to get Covid-19 vaccination and were practicing social distancing to the extreme! Lol

      @theRTWguys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your kind words! We're glad to hear that you're planning a trip to Newfoundland and considering the Cabot Trail. Traveling in a Roadtrek can be a fantastic way to explore the region. Here are a few tips and advice for your upcoming adventure:
      Plan Ahead: Research the route, attractions, and campgrounds along the Cabot Trail and in Newfoundland. Make reservations for campgrounds in advance, especially during peak travel times.
      Pack Essentials: Pack everything you need for a comfortable trip, including clothing for various weather conditions, cooking supplies, food, and any medications or items specific to your needs.
      Check Vehicle: Before you set out, ensure that your Roadtrek is in good working condition. This includes checking tires, brakes, fluids, and other essential components.
      Stay Hydrated: Bring enough water for your journey, as well as a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated while exploring.
      Local Cuisine: Be sure to try local Newfoundland dishes and seafood along the way. Newfoundland cuisine is unique and offers a variety of delicious options.
      Travel Insurance: Consider travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unexpected events during your trip.
      Mobile Connectivity: Check your mobile phone's coverage in the areas you'll be visiting. Some remote locations might have limited reception.
      Pet-Friendly: If you're bringing your dog, make sure to research pet-friendly campgrounds and attractions. Always keep your dog's safety and comfort in mind.
      Weather Preparedness: Newfoundland weather can be unpredictable. Bring layers, rain gear, and warm clothing, even during the summer months.
      Enjoy the Journey: Take your time and enjoy the scenic drive, stopping at viewpoints, local attractions, and points of interest along the way.
      Local Etiquette: Familiarize yourself with local customs and etiquette. Newfoundlanders are known for their friendly and welcoming nature.
      Be Flexible: While planning is important, be open to unexpected opportunities and changes in your itinerary.
      Have a wonderful time on your trip to the Cabot Trail and Newfoundland! It sounds like a fantastic adventure awaits you. Safe travels and enjoy the beautiful landscapes and unique experiences. And regarding our dog, we're quite attached to him, but we're glad to hear he's captured your heart! 😄🐾

    I have been on most of the NFLD ferries because I go home every couple of years . The chairs still don't recline back far enough to relax or sleep . Cabins are expensive and get booked up pretty quick. The effects of booze is amplified due to pitching and rolling in foul weather.The seas are usually calm in summer but watch out for fall. The food is good ,the people are friendly except for the odd person . The most popular NFLD saying in Newfoundland are the two words " proper ting ."

      It sounds like you've had quite the experience with the Newfoundland ferries! The unique challenges of traveling by sea in varying weather conditions certainly add a distinct character to the journey. It's great to hear that the food is enjoyable and the people are friendly, reflecting the warm hospitality that Newfoundland is known for.
      And "proper ting" seems to capture that authentic Newfoundland spirit in just two words! It's amazing how certain local sayings can encapsulate a whole world of meaning. Thank you for sharing your insights and observations about traveling on the NFLD ferries!
