What are you going to be using this season?

Carolina rig, in England we call it a running ledger . We generally use a very short hook length, approximately 6 inches, whole squid as bait, on a 2/0 hook. This is used for fishing for Bass or rays or cod or whatever else is stupid enough to eat the squid. Rarely plastics are used, if not squid then ragworm which is very commonly used.

I just moved here a couple weeks ago. Can you recommend any general areas where there's decent structure sandbars/cuts that would be productive to fish from shore?

Not a kayaker, but as someone that almost exclusively surf fishes this was a great video. I'm further up the coast in SF where the swells are nastier than the Central Coast or SoCal, but your tips and setup would absolutely produce fish up here. Well explained and put together and thank you for putting links in the description. Helps out a ton! Tight lines.

P I was gonna say the same! Rhyak I've seen many "how to" Surf Perch videos man and yours is the best one by far. Concise, informative, and the explanations of the lures where to the point.
I would add that Surf casting a LC Flash Minnow in windy conditions sucks big time! I have a couple of Surf Pointers that cast a little bit better than the Flash Minnows, may wanna try those on your next BSP trip. They too catch some slabs. Thanks again for taking time to make this video and sharing your knowledge.
      Peace! ✌🏾

One of the best, informative videos. I fish So Cal beaches and the plastic grubs and sand crabs work good on the beach. We also have some piers which requires a little heavier line (15-20 ) to land the fish on the pier. Blood worms and lug worms are great on a pier but must be dropped in the surf with a Carolina type rig. There's many videos to watch but few tell you the rigs, lures, and techniques like yours. Most just show some guy fishing with a go-pro and leaves you wondering what was used. Thanks again, I've been fishing these beaches for a while and am gonna try the 6 inch lure on the beach for the first time.

Thanks a lot for your videos. I am just starting to use a rod to fish and I learned some valuable things from you.
I lately used some Gulp sandworms here in Maryland around the sandypoint area but didn't get any bites on them.

Great tutorial..that second rig with a round 1 oz. weight on the bottom and 2 hooks about a foot apart is a killer in San Diego beaches, with the 2 inch sand worms. 10 lb. line. I seem to cast farther with the weight on the bottom than the Carolina rig...but it works good too. Last week we used blood worms on the pier where the surf breaks..15 lb. line and caught 12 fish....Corbina, Croakers and perch.

And please let us know about different Beaches and technique in south California , and the excellent work on links that you provide to us

Nice video. I'm going to have to try your drop shot set up. I think a couple things you left out. Specifically for someone just starting out is where to find the fish. It's important to move up and down the beach looking for the troughs, holes, and rip currents. Also, I see a lot of beginners just heaving as far out and straight out as they can. I always stress that perch are normally relatively close to shore and that fan casting is the best way to locate them. Lastly, you should check out lugworms. They're a bit pricey, but I find they work way better than their artificial counterpart.

Philip Grasso love the drop shot feel it's cleaner then a Dropper loop in the surf.

I want to start surf fishing and fishing off rock walls and peers around LA, what is a good lure to use to catch the big ones off the shore? And what’s a good all around pole?

    • @CckfNet
      @CckfNet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

If fishing off the piers and walls your probably gonna want something a little heavier in the 10-25lb range. Hard to beat swimbaits off the walls. But just to catch fish just catch some bait and use that.

I usually spend more time on the beach fishing for them in the winter/spring when the season on the water is closed but honestly have caught them all year. They do not travel far and once you find a beach that has them catching them should be consistent year round.

    Central coast!!! 5 cities.
Quick question have you ever look at mystrey tackle box inshore and thought it might work for our coast line?

Jorge, It would probably have some useful stuff in it from time to time. Did the bass version for almost a year and ended up not using most of the stuff so been reluctant to start a new subscription.

great vid! i prefer the disc weights myself. up here in sf the surf is big and gets sideways, and a hi-lo 2 oz disc setup slides around vs tumbles. a lot less tangles. the X11 handles 2 oz np. fave rod. gonna give that 110 a shot, any specific color recommendation?

Hi and thanks for the great vids! Do you build the hi / lo rig with the same 12lb leader material? Also, do you tie hi / lo to braid with a swivel? Thanks

Yes pretty much 12lb is my go to leader in the surf. Sorry about the delay.

Hey cool man thanks! Have you tried the Diawa minnow lures yet ? I sure like the idea of casting a $10 lure rather than the $20 LC. I notice Diawa sells the salt pro minnow in a sinking or floating.. Which one would the perch go for?

What is your rigging technique for the lucky craft? Straight on main line? Leader? Carolina rig? Thanks in advance

Good info. Been trying them all before watching. I've had the best luck with the gulp sand worms shorties. Unfortunately they are out of stock here for a bit 🤦‍♂️. Have you tried putting your other plastics or hardbaits in the bag to get that scent and did it help?

Have anyone use 2” powerbait shad? Thinking about trying that versus sandworms . Plan to use a high/low rig and put one bait on each hook. Which bait will win? Most likely sandworms will win but I got to try it out. I saw the Berkley earth worms in sporting goods store and thought about trying that too. Thanks for the info and happy fishing.
