    This was all very helpful. I basically learned how to surf fish from your tutorials. My first time salt water fishing was last January in San Simeon CA where I caught my first barred perch. Now I’ve got the itch, and I’ll be back again this January to do more fishing. I’ll be putting in an order to your online shop soon. Much respect, gratitude and admiration! -Ryan from Northern Minnesota.

    Thank you so much for this video. No matter how experienced we all are we always need a refresher. In many cases with a refresher even the best of fisherman will pick up a few things that they have either forgotten or never learn. Thank you again, Edward.

      That’s why this sport is so beautiful. So many variables and you can do it decades and not know it all. The challenge is what keeps bringing us back

    Edward, your content just about covers the full spectrum of fishing we have in Southern California. I have to admit that when you're fishing inshore or offshore, that's what really gets me excited. Oh, the ten foot Okuma would be a good choice off the jetties also.😊

    This is such an awesome video. For an avid fisherman moving to SD from the southeast, I really appreciate guides like these that really sum up everything you need to get started.

    Great video. Started watching videos a few days ago and I am a new subscriber. Started surf fishing with my uncle at age 5, 44 years ago! Back then it was bait and wait type fishing. I’ve done many types of fishing, kayaking the bays here in San Diego was so much fun but loading the yak, cleaning etc. was time consuming especially living in an apartment. Took 3 years off from fishing and I’m back in the surf. I love halibut fishing but the simplicity of perch fishing has always made me happy. Much smaller grade of fish here in SD but still fun, 13 inches is still my PB BSP. I also two torn up shoulders due to fishing so being back in the surf with lighter setups is so much more comfortable. Keep up the great videos. If you ever travel to the San Diego area let me know. Would love to wet a line with ya

    I’m new to cayucos and been trying to find my niche

      Learning about wave power years ago was a game changer for sure! Keep an eye on it and take mental note of what the numbers translate to in your water.

    Hey man, loving the videos. I'm a beginner surf fisherman and you're getting me dialed forsure. I'm in SB and have been having a huge problem with weeds lately when throwing my jerk baits. Any recommendations on that? Would the Carolina Rig help?

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I were in sb, I’d use the same setup in this video but throw the battlestar XLS swim bait hook for halibut! Watch this video th-cam.com/video/UPcIi36AC2Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=K5OaGRjhb3vwNCeX
      But yes if you’re targeting surface try the Carolina rig

    Great tips for beginners! Regarding Carolina rigs, do you always use 1.5oz egg sinkers? Have you gone lighter? Is there a guide for #oz weight to use for what wave power range? Thanks!

    I noticed in another video you bought an SP rod but still prefer the Hawaiian custom for throwing jerkbaits, specifically. Is that still the case? Did the SP rod end up becoming something like a backup, or do you recommend it over the custom? Also, the SP is a lighter rod. Does it really feel that much lighter than the custom when all is said and done? Thanks.

  • @geofish

    First, I use a jerkbait. When the wind starts, I adjust my approach and switch to c-rig

    Hey Edward, do you trout fish? What is your recommendation for a good ultra light lake trout rod? I’m thinking the Okuma Celilo Graphite Ultra Light Freshwater Rods, CE-S-862ULb….with a okuma Ceymar Lightweight Spinning Reel- C-30……I’m fishing Sierra lakes…..you thoughts? I’m using a Fenwick Willow now and the Celilo 9-6 ML you recommend for throwing jerk baits for perch. It works great for trout.

    • @Hook2Cook

      Use a 30-50# clip tied to a leader or straight braid using a San Diego jam knot

  • @jammerramz3031

    how far should we cast, sometimes I feel like I'm to far then others not far enough?

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s all situational where the fish are feeding. Usually low tide they are farther out. but keep in mind at the end of your cast you gotta retrieve slack in your line and it takes a few yards of retrieve to have the bait running at the right depth.
