Any 'Babel' fans in the comments? Did Sean and Amanda miss one of your favorites? Let us know!
I thought it was best Brad Pitt performances (the title says "Best Movies" but Fennessey said "performances"); I'd've had "12 Monkeys" in my top spot. Definitely not my favorite movie of his (although it's great), but his performance... I was surprised he was nominated for it because it definitely deserved an award.
Performances:
1 - 12 Monkeys
2 - Moneyball
3 - Burn After Reading
4 - Se7en
5 - Snatch
Favorite Movies:
1 - The Ocean's Trilogy (12)
2 - Troy
3 - Moneyball
4 - Se7en
5 - Fight Club
Honorable Mentions: Burn After Reading, 12 Monkeys, The Big Short, Cool World
dumb
Fight club!!!
The Artist fan here. Sean can eat 💩.
Terrible movie
Please PLEASE release all of the Big Picture episodes in video like this. I love watching you all talk, not just listening!
AGREE.
Same goes for all their shows. Put up the vids dudes!
Finally I can see Amanda's face when Sean says "you're looking at me funny, what are you thinking" LOL Love the show!
The Big Picture is one of the best podcasts out there. Love Sean and Amanda, keep up the great work!
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Fight Club
Ocean's Eleven
Inglorious Bastards
Seven
I still love Sean's view that "He's a Character Actor trapped in an A-Lister's Body." I use that line and sound brilliant in conversations. So thank you for that.
Good list
I would argue that you sound like a douche if you say in conversation
1) Seven (by a pretty big margin honestly)
2) Inglourious Basterds
3) True Romance
4) Fight Club
5) Burn after Reading
1.Fight Club
2.Kalifornia
3.12 Monkeys
4.Benjamin Button
5.Assasination of Jesse James
6.Every-other-movie-he's-been-in (All of them)
Good list
Fight Club. Nobody can swing their dead leg over their other leg and light a cig and look believably beat nearly to death like Brad
Ocean's 11 is such a good movie and it is so easy for actors, writers, directors -- the whole crew -- in a movie like that to completely mail in their performances and they don't.
Moneyball is criminally underrated. Think yalls lists are really good.
1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
2. Inglorious Basterds
3. Fight Club
4. Se7en
5. True Romance
They are spot on about Moneyball, it's one of my favourite movies of the last 20 years and I'm not a baseball fan at all. And it probably is his best performance, should have won the Oscar that year 100%
It's just Pitt playing Pitt in Moneyball.
see, I didn't love it
1. Moneyball
2. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
3. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
4. Fight Club
5. Se7en
(Haven’t seen Ad Astra yet)
Please do a top 5 Leo list!
1: Assassination of Jesse James
2: Fight Club
3: Babel
4: Seven
5: Benjamin Button
Babel?? Whew alright then
How the hell does Fightclub not get into the top 5. It's one of the best films ever made.
That's all Edward Norton. Pitt is barely in it, and his role (though he did a fantastic job) doesnt really call on his skills very much.
@@The-Dom That's absolute nonsense.
@@The-Dom you've never seen fight club if you think he's barely in it
@GCT10/31/1990 dude fuck off snatch is the greatest movie ever
What about "Spy Game" with Redford? That scene on the top of the building where Pitt goes off and flings the steel chair down into traffic, was powerful.
I have a hard time not putting moneyball on the top of my Pitt list, but as a British listener his role in snatch is phenomenal. Number 1 on my list for sure
Brit viewer here - I can confirm the Irish gypsy accent in Snatch was spot on.
Thank you haha! Reading all these comments and not seeing recognition for Snatch is wild. Amazing movie and a great Pitt performance.
Pitt's performance in A River Runs Through It is underrated by the hosts.
Another great point by Amanda -- he is so relaxed AND anguished in Moneyball at the same time. and he makes it look so easy.
1. Snatch
2. Ocean's Eleven
3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
4. Se7en
5. Inglorious Basterds
Honorable mention: Deadpool 2
i hear what sean is saying about how over-the-top and noticeable his performance in Inglorious Basterds is, but, the entire friggin movie is so over-the-top. It'd be weird if he wasn't. And, as usual, he's a huge part of what makes it so good.
Ocean's 11 is absolutely his best performance. There's no more "Brad Pitt" Brad Pitt performance. Soderbergh makes everything in that movie super slick and cool, and Pitt is somehow slicker and cooler than anyone else.
Moneyball is his best for serious performances.
As a Brit, I can't put into words how impressive Brad Pitt was in Snatch.
Firstly Snatch is a great film and for 'British Gyspy' read 'Irish traveler' and supposedly - according to some Irish travelers - his accent was pretty sport on.
The best Pitt roles are when he's NOT front and center, but where he can sink his teeth in good character roles. His role in Snatch is good. But the one where he DISAPPEARS BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES is 12 Monkeys.
You forget it's Brad Pitt. You forget it's Pitt with Bruce Willis. That specific role really just made me see him more that women eye candy, but an excellent & very capable actor.
Why are people hating on Troy?
Because its boring as hell
I like Troy & I really like his character however I can't put it in top 5
Who are the people hating? Are they in the room with us right now?
My Brad top five:
1. Moneyball
2. Oceans 11
3. Seven
4. Fight Club
5. Benjamin Button
Can not wait to see Ad Astra
Snatch! Period!
I like dags
well, he is 29 in A River Runs Through It and he does look great in it. I've never thought he was all that great as an actor --- but he followed it up with Kalifornia, which was an interesting performance
1.snatch
2.fight club
3.kalifornia
4.moneyball
5.benjamin button
No fight club?!!????!?? You guys are crazy
Could throw in Meet Joe Black, I do like that movie and it's not easy to play a blank slate which is sort of what Pitt had to do in that
Fight Club
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Inglourious Basterds
Moneyball
Killing Them Softly
1.) Snatch
2.) Inglorious Basterds
3.) Babel
4.) Moneyball
5.) Snatch
6.) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
7.) Burn After Reading
Se7en
Snatch
Fight Club
Inglorious Bastards
Oceans 11
You can't tell the story of his career without these performances.
Also, and I know everyone has a film they love that the world hates, and if you enjoy classic films from the 40s, 50s and 60s, then you appreciate Meet Joe Black. It has 5 to 10 lines which have stuck with me my whole life and 5 scenes that I would stack up against any scene for dialogue.
Basterds.
No Sleepers, Kalifornia, Killing them softly. And Fight Club and True romance only honorable mention?!
Fight Club
Moneyball no question is Brad Pitts best performance but not having fight club in your top 5??? I know it’s more memorable for the ed norton performance but damn brad pitt kills it in that movie too
1 Se7en
2 Moneyball
3 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
4 Fight Club
5 Burn After Reading
excellent, excellent point! Brad created the Aldo Raine character.
for me, Moneyball is #1 b/c he makes it so look so stinking easy. He is in almost every shot. He IS the movie, it is so entertaining. He makes it look SO SO EASY.
Please make one for Leo and Denzel!!
Snatch
Moneyball
Fight Club
Se7en
Ocean's 11 (long overdue for rewatch but stands out in memory, through the haze)
Ocean’s 11 really holds up. Saw it for the first time earlier this year and it’s just one of those fun movies they don’t make enough of today.
It is a good example of remake done right. Skip Ocean's 12, you wont get that time back...
i admittedly haven't seen many of his movies pre-Seven, but the main reason i always say he's a character actor stuck in a movie star's face is b/c there are so many beautiful people are sh*tty actors but he's not one of them. even if he's choosing supporting parts -- he chooses well. there is absolutely a skill to choosing parts and then executing on a high level.
In no particular order:
Troy
Once Upon a Time In Hollywood
Inglorious Basterds
Killing them softly
Moneyball
Wow Amanda should have done this with Mal
new to your channel..........oh, wow, did you two miss appreciating "A River Runs Through It". ("Burn After Reading"?.......oy)...........but reasonable people can agree to disagree. thanks for posting.
1.-seven
2.-moneyball
3.-fight club
4.-fury
5.-spy game
If QT is happy with BP that's good enough for me.
being from the uk brads role an accent in snach was pretty accurate and he's Irish gypsy btw lol
and the food gimmick is so funny oceans deffo started it lol thought I was the only one that noticed it in other films tho haha
I do t care what this list says fight club is #1
Two very smart people demonstrating that even thoughtful commentary can't overcome women liking "women's movies" and men liking "men's movies"
Which one is Fennesy?
My Top 5:
#1 Legends of the Fall
#2 Se7en
#3 Seven Years in Tibet
#4 Troy
#5 Meet Joe Black
My next Top 5:
#6 Money Ball
#7 Interview with the Vampire
#8 Inglorious Bastards
#9 Ocean's Eleven
#10 Benjamin Button
Might be the only bad list on here tbh
@@Juice-ig3jz No list, no opinions please. LMAO
Anyone actually really love him in World War Z?
No 12 Monekys though?
come seven is the best. i think he deserved an oscar. "whats in the box"???
Curious Case of Benjamin Button is #1 for me….just go back and watch it and I don’t understand how your not absolutely blown away by how great that movie is
I'm a huge Brad Pitt fan, but I have never understood the love for Moneyball. I recently re-watched that movie to try and see what I missed and I still found it so boring and uninteresting. I'm a huge sports fan too, but I just thought that this particular subject matter was so dull for a movie plot.
I gottta go with Money ball for the #1.
Fight Club went 0-2 nani
Se7en is his best movie
Some great character development in Se7en
Legends of the Fall! Feel like such a great movie that never gets the credit it deserves. Am I alone on this one?
Nope. That and A River Runs Through It are fantastic
It's superior compared to Moneyball which is so forgettable.
Am I the only person that loves “Troy” ?
You are not. I think the Ringer has thrown shade at it a few times, but I see at least one other person on here who had it on his list.
I fucking *love* Troy, it's so good. Three of the best battle/fight scenes of all-time (they span the gamut: a big battle scene - when Troy takes the beach ahead of the entire army - a fucking fantastic one-on-one battle - Achilles vs Hector - and a great one that establishes Achilles' badass cred - Achilles vs Boagrias (sp?). The only other fighting scene I'd put up there in that tier is Dread Pirate Westley vs Inigo Montoya; maybe not technically as good as Achilles vs Hector - although it's close - but more satisfying because of the banter).
And what a great cast too. That movie might not be as high a quality as some of his other stuff like Se7en, Fight Club, Moneyball, or The Big Short, but goddamn it's a fun fucking movie.
No. My favourite movie by him, and one of the great anti war movies of all time.
1. Fight Club
2. Inglourious Basterds
3. 12 Monkeys
4. The Tree of Life
5. Snatch
1a. Once upon a time in Hollywood
1b. Snatch
2. Fight Club
3. Killing them softly
4. Inglorious Basterds
5. Moneyball or Ad Astra
Honorable mentions Se-Seven-en(se7en), 12 monkeys, Fury, true romance, Troy and maybe oceans 11. Never seen Jesse James:/ and benny button kinda sucked. I saw world war z the first time I did mushrooms in the theater so that was wild and fun but his performance isn't great, it isn't bad but the movie is just BRAD PITT SAVES THE WORLD which is whatever. So yeah those are the reasons those last 3 weren't mentioned honorably.
I think his best movie is Interview With A Vampire.
1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
2. The Tree of Life
3. Inglourious Basterds
He does such a great job of capturing men of that WWII-Korean War generation. Weathered men who have seen too much.
4. Moneyball
5. The Counsellor
Irish* not British my friend, that's pretty dangerous territory.
Assassination of Jesse James
Once Upon a Time
Inglorious
Fight Club
Se7en
No it's not complicated why he lost to Spacey, Spacey was incredible in that movie. Sure he's a creep, but he deserved the award
Exactly.
Exactly, I like Pitt but Spacey is a superior actor,
@@BishopWalters12 that performance in usual suspects is GOAT level. Brad Pitt achieved that with Hollywood and also won so it all comes around.
These people are really good at talking.
Seven, Fight Club, and Inglourious Basterds are his best performances imo, in that order. I haven't seen Fury or Once Upon a Time, so spare me those two
The Artist is a bad movie? It wasn’t Fight Club or anything, but come on.
Also, Tyler Durden was Brad’s best role. Most iconic for sure.
I don't feel Sean and Amanda took the seriousness of Brad Pitt's epic career, Fight Club is his best ever, and 12 monkeys was his breakout as a contending actor, for G's sake he got nominated for an Oscar for this. He also had very good movies in Spy Game, Babel, the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Tree of Life. Kalifornia is also pretty good. Amanda's list is extremely superficial. I appreciate Sean for including Snatch and Seven.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Pitt was magnificent.
he's a movie star looking character actor with an eye for quality
How to tell someone's age without asking their age: having a Brad Pitt top 5 and not including his most famous role
Pitt is a good character actor who gets underrated because he's movie star handsome
A model who acts. Another DiCaprio.
Nice to see what they look like, after listening to their pod for years. He looks about twelve.
Fight Club
Fight Club
Fight Club
Fight Club
Troy
I’ve seen dialect coaches criticizing his southern accent in inglorious basterds, but I think they’re missing the point. Without brad Pitt as Aldo I don’t think that movie is as iconic as it is today. People will be quoting him for the next 100 years
Where is fight club? Not even mentioned
stylistically, Se7en is great
Unclear why it was necessary to shade Will Smith and Tom Cruise when discussing the kind of actor Brad Pitt is. What's the point? That they make/made different choices? What's Will Smith on Instagram and Tom Cruise dancing have to do with Brad Pitt's performances?
The real question is... What is the most badass Brad Pitt character? Put them all in a ring, who comes out alive?
That’s easy: Tyler Durden.
Is it bad I really almost like all of them?
Performances or movies? If the latter I'll go with:
1) Se7en
2)Moneyball (probably his best performance IMO)
3)The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
4)Fight Club
5)Meet Joe Black/True Romance
where in the world is fight club
Why all the hate for A River Runs Through It? I love that film!
Because it's boring as shit
I think you need to appreciate nature, fishing and the slow place of being in wilderness to connect with it and I dont think Sean and Amanda have that (as they admitted they don't fish)
@@gdawgs101 I'll take 8 hours of watching Pitt fish over stupid Moneyball.
One of the worst performances by Hopkins ever after the character has a stroke. Also, lotta melodrama in that one, like a Lifetime movie. But Pitt is good.
tristan the bear ftw
The degree of difficulty in the Oceans movies is like a 1/10. Give me a break.
I often wonder if the powers that be held off on giving Bradd Pitt an Oscar because he was a little "too out there" or unconventional Ala Johnny Depp who also has been denied. Or was it because of his tabloid scandal plagued marriage to Angelina Jolie? Or were both put down as just "pretty faces" as their incredible good looks and sexiness made them seem shallow somehow. Pitt is a great actor who has dared to take on tricky risky roles as well as more conventional ones like Ocean's 11.
s7ven and fight club
.....Greatest living actor? .......Over Denzel Washington?......Filmography Please!!! You have got to be kidding. Look Nic Cage will give him a serious run for the money, STOP IT.
No order
Fight Club
Inglorious Basterds
Se7en
Oceans 11
Moneyball
our greatest living movie star? You ever hear of a guy named Al Pacino? Daniel Day Lewis? Sean Penn?
Sean Penn shouldn't be on that list. Replace him with DiCaprio. Plus Daniel Day Lewis is a phenomenal actor, one of the best ever, but he's not really a "movie star".
@@gdawgs101 DDL is definitely an actor, not a movie star. I'd say Leo is more often actor than movie star, although he does dabble in movie stardom.
The big, supernova movie stars? I'd say it's Tom Cruise, Will Smith (probably still), and then Brad Pitt. Maybe Tom Hanks too. I'd argue that Cruise and Smith and probably more bankable, so it depends on what you mean by "greater", but if we're talking about somebody who is a 5-tool star? Definitely Brad Pitt, hands down. (The acting, the choices he makes, and of course the charisma/movie stardom.)
@@gdawgs101 nonsense. if we're talking best living actor who does lead roles, it's Sean Penn and Daniel Day Lewis and everyone else is below them, Brad several notches down as he's not a particularly good actor. He has like one schtick - the cocky guy. If we're talking bankable movie stars right now, Bradley Cooper, Matt Damon, Denzel, Will Smith, Jake Gyllenhaal all will get you more bums on seats. You could even argue Tom Hardy moves the needle as much as Brad Pitt right now.
@@davemccrea9000 But guess what? We're talking about best living *movie stars* not best living actors who do lead roles. Two different things. We're talking about the most marketable superstars not the best character actors. Nicholas Cage explains the difference between a movie star and an actor: "An actor is someone who pretends to be somebody else. A movie star is somebody who pretends that somebody else is them. Actors will change their face, will change their hair, will change their voice, will disappear into the role. A movie star doesn’t disappear." Movie Stars: Tom Cruise, the Rock, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Wayne, Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, Will Ferrell, ect. Actors: Daniel Day-Lewis, Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Ed Norton, Meryl Streep, Christopher Walken, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, ect.
Denzel does all of the above.
