Piracy is more the issue of service and quality rather than price. When someone completely unrelated and just passionate about it does a better job than the actual developer, you got a problem. So totally agree with you and Gabe on that front. It's terrible how lazy and/or intentionally obtuse people can be. 5e's big issue is exactly the PDF structure and layout that makes running modules a hassle for the DM more than it ever should be.
I'll be honest, 100% I'd rather just have a pdf than what you get in dnd beyond where you can't actually have a pdf, you can't print off pages, and heaven help you if they change or remove bits of the books (cough cough volo's) and now you don't have access to that. PDF's are vastly superior for me than the limitation of "convenience" that dnd beyond provides.
I get that. DDB's "license to rent" model isn't ideal for the long term. If the site goes offline all your stuff is kaput. In the short term though, it's much easier for me to prep with personally. Definitely think every digital wiki purchase should come with a downloadable PDF.

100% agree.

Sounds like you’ve just identified a need that can be profitability filled… 😏
This is more of a thing for digital content.
