- In this video I will explain everything you need to know about showing good observation turning left at junctions. I will show you how to preview junctions and how to avoid focusing on the one thing too much which can cause problems. It's important to keep the eyes and head moving so you don't risk missing anything that could be a potential danger. I will provide explanations and practical demonstrations both from a minor to major road and from a major road into a minor road.

Dane, I passed on my first try today and your videos were a big reason why. Thank you
You're welcome, well done on passing 👏
Dane I passed my test today and your videos played a massive part. I really appreciate the work you put into all of your videos. 😊
Thank you for your kind words, congratulations on your great news.
PASSED, FIRST TRY. A huge thank you to Dane Tyghe (Let’s Drive) for his amazing driving training preparation videos, which were instrumental in helping me pass my driving test this morning! I also want to acknowledge the invaluable resources from ADM Driving School that greatly aided my preparation.
Special thanks to my instructors, Anton and Gabby, who took my driving skills to the next level. After my first instructor (with whom I did 12 lessons) refused to hire me his car, I was fortunate to connect with Anton and Gabby, who truly made a difference. Grateful as well to FlexiDrive, which enabled me to hire Gabby’s car just a day before the test.
For learners: stay confident and don’t let fear take over-you’ve got this! My test went well overall, though I made a few mistakes in Observation Moving Off and Reverse Around the Corner (Competency and Observation). I was careful not to touch the kerb while reversing, and even adjusted to improve. Always observe carefully, maintain proper positioning, and keep a steady speed.
Lastly, I prayed for God’s guidance before starting, and it brought me peace. Good luck to everyone preparing-you can do it! 🚗✨😂
Thank you Dane for your vedeos I passed my test on the second attempt with the help of your vedeos iv learnt so much and your vedeos made me calm 😊
Nice explanations on left turns, sure it will help many new drivers.
That's the plan. Best wishes.
I have my driving test is coming up very soon and I find your videos really helpful, Thank you for the time and effort you are putting into them to get myself and other people through their driving test. Observation is a big thing and that's what I really have to focus on for my next test. I will let you know how I get on and thank you again. :D
Best of luck with your test 🤞
I passed my driving test today in Wilton, Cork and your videos really helped me. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into them lots of things I had seen in your tutorials stuck in my head and I was a lot more confident doing the test
Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. Congratulations on your great news.
Thanks!
Great channel. Thank you so much Dane for great tips in this channel and excellent driving lesson videos. Even the comments and experiences that others shared are really helpful. It helped me to boost my confidence after a long break from driving (gave birth to my 1st baby). I won't forget the roundabout tip of Speed and Space. I took my 1st test today and passed it. Thanks again and more power to your channel. 🙂
That's great, well done on your success and I'm delighted to be able to point you in the right direction 😊
Dane I passed today first attempt. I had an excellent instructor and I relied heavily on your videos for all the useful tips. Thanks and continue the good work 👍
Well done on your success, great work 👍
Passed my test today first time thanks to my driving instructor and all the videos ,great to watch between your lessons 👍🏻 thanks 😊
Knowledge is power and information is knowledge. Congratulations!
Just passed my test today in Mullingar your videos were a great help, cheers Dane 👍
Congratulations on passing your test, great job 👍🎊🎊
Thanks for all your videos ,along with my instructor and you I've been able to pass today first time. I'll be donating soon as what you do is absolutely so great for people learning. Thanks !
I enjoy helping learners achieve their driving goals, knowledge is power. Congratulations on your successful achievement.
I really appreciate for extremely deeply explain which is very help ful for learner like it very much
Just passed my test first time today! Have been watching your videos for a while! Thank you! Fantastic tips on your channel that definitely helped me pass! Thrilled!
Knowledge is power, congratulations!
Thanks for all your videos. I've been watching them the last while in preparation. Passed first time today and your content was a great help to get that pass!
Glad to hear that you found the videos useful and informative and congratulations on passing your test, a great achievement 😀
My instructor tells that there is no need to look left and right if I am coming to a stop line and rather just focus on the stop line and get the stopping position correct. Then he counts up to 3 where I look both ways and we move of it's safe. Thank you for these tips on observation, I will try practicing them.
If I was teaching a driver who had limited ability and was around the intermediate level I might say the same but I would find it astonishing if a proper driving instructor was saying that to an experienced learner who is test ready. From my point of view I increase the challenge in accordance with the ability of the learner driver as they improve and evolve. I teach people based on what is good safe driving for life, not some random driving test. Don't you think it's a pity that your instructor is limiting your ability to grow and learn?
I do agree with you. I have my test in a week. Most of what I know is from your videos. Today while out driving, I did scan the junction before I came to a stop. I do hope that I pass else I will have to change instructor. Thanks for all your brilliant videos.
You're very welcome and I wish you every success in your test, we all do things differently but I think it's important to challenge the learner. Email me at danetyghe@gmail.com if you need anything clarified.
Thanks for all the information. It really helped me. I passed it this week 🙏😀👍
Congratulations! Fantastic news.
I got the most marks for this in my first test 2 months ago (3 grade 2s). I have my 2nd test tomorrow morning so I made dure to watch this video beforehand, thank for the upload!
Should suit you well then, best of luck with your test tomorrow 😁
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I failed again. But on the upside I got no marks on turning left
Always remember there's no such thing as failure, you either succeed or you learn.
Thank you.
You are very beautiful beautiful driving test teacher I need to watch your all videos thanks a million million for your understanding thanks 🙏
It's tough at the top.
What does thered coloured initials to the right of the veciles mean?
Would you earn a fault on the test if you failed to check the three mirrors after joining the new road?
Do we need hand break at stop sign?
thank you so much.
You're very welcome
Dane - I failed my driving test yesterday over this very thing but having watched your video I don't believe I did anything different yet got 3 Grade 2s on observation turning left and also 2 more on observation moving off. The tester mentioned something about a left blindspot check - I didn't think that was necessary - can u clarify - thanks.
There's a lot of new and inexperienced testers out there giving mixed messages but I can't say what happened. Your version may not necessarily reflect the actual version of events as generally speaking there's no smoke without fire.
What do you mean said something about a left blind spot? There's no need to get a left blind spot moving off so I'll probably need a little bit more information on that.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive thanks for reply Dane - he mentioned not checking over left when moving off - I said I thought it was meant to be un-necessary but he said it shows that u prepare for everything! He didn't explain what he meant by observation at left turns.
The tester is wrong then and I would encourage you to appeal because if you are moving off from the left then the right blind spot is the only one that is essential. One of the hardest things for instructors is trying to deal with the huge amount of inconsistencies among testers.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive thank you so much for this Dane - would u have any advice of how to go about an appeal - I looked it up and it said u have to go to the district court so I don't particularly want to go down that road. Is there any point writing to the RSA?
The first place is to see if you can find an option on the MyRoadSafety portal, is that possible?
Dane, will have my test in 3 weeks, had a spin with my instructor, moving off like you say in your videos 1-2-3. he says thats incorrect and suppose to be first gear, mirrors, signal, blind spot , handbrake, side mirror and go. Also in your multiple videos you say after we've parked the car, handbrake first then neutral, he claims again, incorrect, first neutral then handbrake. Now I'm kinda confused.
There's no need to be confused, I can promise you that my way is correct and his way is acceptable in most cases. If he is trying to say what I teach us incorrect then he simply doesn't know what he's talking about. In driving there are many ways to do something and not one specific way.
Ask him if my way is incorrect then why didn't the chief driving examiner say that to me the last time I spoke to him? Please ask him to respond as I'd be very interested to hear his answer 😊😊
@@DaneTygheletsdrivethanks Dane, thats exactly what I've said to him in terms of not specific one way. He said, wrong, theres a specific sequence algorithm (the way i mentioned in previous post) and if you dont follow it, you lose marks. I thought to myself back then, how stupid it is, if one follows proper steps in a different sequence but does all of them required. We are only humans not robots, ultimately, what would change in terms of safety, if I first turn the signal on, then check mirrors not vice versa? Oh well, thanks very much, anyway.
My pleasure, glad to help. Everyone has their own way of teaching but any good teacher must be flexible and open to learning new methods. Unfortunately the instructor you're referring to doesn't sound like someone open to new techniques. Classic form of insecurity.
Pray not to meet the lady examine 🙂
I'm pretty sure Dane is spot-on about the sequence for parking and your instructor is wrong. I was taught that you handbrake first and then put it into neutral. I'm not a driving instructor (I'm a novice on month three of my license) and I don't mean to come across as arrogant or sound like I know everything, but, logically, it just makes sense to me that making sure the car isn't rolling back first takes priority over changing into neutral when parking.
Hi do you have a video on position when stopping? I cant seem to find one sorry
Not specifically but I hope to in the future.
I'm having a hit of trouble understanding how to apply for my theory/learner.
I'm trying to apply for my full license, but i don't know how long and what I will have to do in the process.
What I've learned is that I will have to learn the theory questions and then apply for theory test, then do a eye examination and after that I can do the driving test? Are those 3 steps the only things i will have to do? Am I missing something, cause on the rsa,etc websites, it keeps explaining to do my theory test I will need to have my learner permit... don't you get the learner permit after the theory test? And after doing the theory test and eye examination, would i have to take any classes to show I learned how to drive or can a family member with a full license of more then 2 years that helped me, be enough to apply for the driving test?
And I don't know if by just passing the driving test, ie I'll get my full license (I'm guessing the full license comes to play after minimum 2 years?)
And how fast can I apply for the driving test after finishing the theory test?.
Thank you for the informative videos! I feel confident I can pass without any issues, including the driving test!

Theory test first, this video will explain.
Is it necessary to use the handbreak everytime i stop?
No
Thank you so much sir.
Sir do you have any cross road left/right turn videos?
Plz if so give me the link. ❤️

Dear Dane, thank you, for helpful video. I had exam yesterday, the examine she was unfair with me.what would you advice me?
I know you're asking Dane, so I don't mean to be rude and interrupt by replying, but I feel that I had a similar situation on my first driving test (I passed second time around) where my instructor was very harsh on marking and his feedback was so minimal afterwards that I didn't even really understand a majority of what I had failed on. I had to try and reconstruct the test from memory with my instructor afterwards to try and piece together what went wrong which was just tedious.
At the end of the day, you can appeal the test and argue that it wasn't conducted fairly. I don't know how you would go about proving that or what the procedure is, but if you're successful you get a free make up test. They can't do anything about your result from the original test though, so I don't really see the point of even appealing it.
@@martincurran4985 thank you very much for helpful advice👍
It's exactly like Martin said, you can appeal if you want to but you're wasting your time. Better to just focus on learning from the previous experience and focus on the next test.
How do we approach the slalom during the driving test
I don't know what you mean by slalom
Why no blindspot check? Is there a guide to when exactly check your blindspot? Like what if there had been a bike on your inside? I failed for checking my blindspot too much.
You check your blind spot moving off and you should give a quick sideways glance changing lane. You don't check your blind spot here because you need to be focused on the traffic on the main road. I would have seen any bike because I double checked mirrors before.
On a roundabout with 5 exits , one being the entrance to a supermarket (Scally’s Clonakilty), is the entrance to the supermarket classed as an exit? Whether it is or not determines which lane to enter the roundabout at. Multiple near misses here between people who class the entrance as an exit and enter the roundabout in the right hand lane(heading for Cork) and those who don’t class it as an exit and enter the roundabout in the left hand land, clashing at the exit. RSA no help 😏. Videos are great 👍
Are there signs or markings?
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I’ll check next time that I’m down 👍
Good luck
For the driving test, what if I get up to 3 questions wrong in the test centre or anytime during my test? Thanks.
Grade 2 mark
Hello Dane, In this video you stopped to wait for the white van. In this situation, I am worried if the test will mark you for progress?
Moreover, in this video you either turn from major to minor road or vice versa. In Dun Laoghrie test route we are most of the time in the residential streets with no markings on the roads and mostly are T-junctions. It would be nice if you could do a video on those situations where there are only T junctions and no road markings with cars parked on both sides most of the times. How would you carry on with good observation and show good progress at the same time.
Getting marked on progress entirely depends on the situation, you must use your own good judgement and common sense.
How do you think you should handle t junctions without road markings??
I failed early today and most were grade2’s given for observing to the right while making left turns. Really unsure what’s the mistake in it
You probably didn't look left and right enough, maybe you forgot about the one last look.
I'm always looking right first before looking left. Before coming onto anther road. But I can't help it but I know I should.
On a continues white is it ok to overtake a cyclist to avoid queue on the road and should I indicate before doing so even if I may not cross the white line?
What do you mean avoid queue?
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I mean, if there are few cars at the back of me..
Yes you can overtake the cyclist in that case if it is safe. It is acceptable to cross the solid white line in the case of a hazard on certain occasions
@@DaneTygheletsdrive thanks so much for the replay.
Stay safe
Can you please make a standalone video for "Observation turning right". I've got marked a few Grade 2 on my test recently due to that, and I'd appreciate if you can prepare something. I am not sure what I am missing at.
This is a video which covers observation turning right but I certainly hope to do a video like you suggested.
th-cam.com/video/0Eqy_e6USu4/w-d-xo.html
@@DaneTygheletsdrive thanks. If I send you my result sheet and explain the mistakes I noted, will you be able to guide me what mistake I'm doing in the observation turning right?
Yes, email me at danetyghe@gmail.com
great
I failed my test today because I got 4 grade 2 errors for observations when turning left. Only other errors were 1 grade 2 for rules of the road and 1 grade 2 for positioning on a bend. Not pissed at the tester but more so pissed at my instructor who at my pre-test yesterday, failed to mention that my observations when turning left were wrong. I got failed because I didn't look into the left road enough before I turned. Clearly it was a habit thing for me but surely my instructor should have mentioned it then the day before my test, given I was always doing it? Wish I had seen this video beforehand
Unfortunately there is going to be a huge difference in the standard of driving lessons out there, it has as many inconsistencies as the testers. A lot of instructors are not bothered and only do it for the glory of social media posts after a successful pass. Better luck next time.
@Dane Tyghe thanks dane. Will keep practicing before my next one.
Best wishes, email me at danetyghe@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns, I can analyse your report sheet too.
helpful
Indeed
I am learning how to drive from instructors on videos, not just you but from Rick August from Smart Drive Test and other experienced drivers so I can get a license by just taking the tests as I am 25 and live in Washington State where the law permits those 18 and older to just take the tests. I live in a place where we drive on the right side of the road so I pretended that your teaching of turning left in this video was your teaching of turning right.
I would still recommend getting lessons if I were you before sitting your test. Instructional videos are great (Dane's especially), but they don't correct practical mistakes you're going to make in the car. Try getting a few lessons from an instructor and getting comfortable with how the car operates and some practice before sitting your test. If nothing else, you'll gain a better appreciation for road safety and safe driving and other road users will thank you. Best of luck, man. :)
Good advice Martin
Smart move! Best of luck with your driving 😊
MSM Is the perfect example of applying "one for all solution". Why do you need to check the mirror before indicating? Completely useless action. The same thing when doing turns at roundabouts.
You check mirrors to make sure there's no danger nearby like cyclists.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Before the maneuver - yes, but before INDICATING ??? What for? What can you possibly see there that changes your decision to NOT indicate. While doing some practice my "instructor" kept bugging me about looking at the mirror before indicating while turning left on 1 lane road or turning right on roundabout(s). I'm realizing that it's easier for instructor(s) to say "you should always look before indicate" rather when explain where/when it's necessary and where/when it's not.
Don't forget to check for bicycles on your left mirror before you make that turn.
The main focus is on the main road. Cyclists have a responsibility not to do stupid and life threatening things.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Many candidates have failed their tests because of the 'stupid' things some cyclist do on the road. Focus on the main road, yes. But also watch out for them cyclist especially the ones coming on your left
great
