    These kind of people arent fashionable and easily mocked in modern Britain but they are a product of their circumstances and will be gone forever in a few generations. last of a dying era. I find them likeable and interesting

      @@cornstar1253 they had a show called life is toff which showed them basically whoring their property out to make ends meet. Besides the giant crumbling castle I don’t think they’re as wealthy as they might initially seem.

      These places can cause 10svof thousands a year just in upkeep and maintenence costs. Most repairscandvrestirationscwoukd be using skilled and scarce craftspeople and materials. Nobody on a normal income could afford it. Which us why u see so many of these places renovated and restored and turned into wedding venues, tourist attractions, coffee rooms etc. There's simply no other choice as the place has to be made pay forvitselfvinnthe long run. The buildings themselves require alnist constant upkeep and repair also.

      Beth Bartlett she means that the narrator, trying to sound informed has completely bastardised the name of arguably our most famous and legendary king. She also badly mispronounced the place name.

      Devonshire is a perfectly acceptable form of the name Devon and is often used in England, for example the Duke of Devonshire.

    It's unfair why can't all four kids inherit this house and land would at least give them all an incentive to look after it and work together it's unfair the other kids are meant to feel less important I would never leave everything to one child and leave all the other kids with nothing such a bad practice

    • @GeorgejamesB01
      @GeorgejamesB01 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because there's 4 kids, thats 450 acres each, and when each of those had 4 kids it would be 100 acres left and suddenly the family land is all gone. No point leaving a house to all 4 kids when there's no intention to sell it, it's all about keeping it in the family.

      never sell he land cultivate i run he house into a school, farm the land, rent out the land, never ever sell the land

    • @GeorgejamesB01
      @GeorgejamesB01 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there's this wonderful thing called planning permission and in that area, Dartmoor National Park, there is very little chance of getting planning permission for a development. In national parks, most people struggle to get permission for a garden shed, never mind a whole new housing estate.
      The land is already farmed, most likely to tenants, it is pointless to sell it. A few acres would net you 30 grand with current prices. Selling off large swathes of it would also defeat the object.

    • @sarahjones-jf4pr
      @sarahjones-jf4pr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One golden rule never sell your land.Francis has kept that essential rule for centuries, his family have done the same.

    • @oogabooga2337
      @oogabooga2337 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the whole point is to never sell your land. once its sold u can pretty much never buy it back and the whole point is to get more. never worth selling unless you can sell some for development and buy a lot more with it

  • @GeorgejamesB01
    @GeorgejamesB01 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very easy to criticise this family but they are clearly overexaggerating this. Who blames them, from their first excentric expose Fulford went on to do loads of shows, he will have made a decent amount of cash which will no doubt go into the estate. He has put on a show, willingly made himself look a bit of an arse to preserve his families legacy .

    Ever since Lord Francis Fulford moved into the estate, the sheep have never been seen on public however local reports at the county pub indicate that they walk sideways and show visible signs of discomfort.

    • @jimcameron9848
      @jimcameron9848 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I apologize for the error, but I find it quite funny that of the facts I presented the one you corrected me on was in regards to his proper place within peerage and not animal husbandry! As far as I can figure, he has no official title within the peerage system. Correct? Thank you, JC

    • @jimcameron9848
      @jimcameron9848 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interestingly, at 0:32 the reference to the eldest son anticipating his role as heir leads me to conclude that Mister Francis - not having a title - has no customary obligation to the eldest son with regard to bequeathing the estate. I do not know the details of the Fulford estate, but the documentary implies a peerage styled estate tenure - "the future Lord of this manor ...", however, am I correct in thinking that there is no such requirement of passing it on to the eldest male?

    • @jimcameron9848
      @jimcameron9848 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your timely response! I think it is interesting that to an American audience the documentary overlooks the voluntary aspect of this, which is no different than a farmer in Wyoming willing the entirety of his land to the eldest son. Kind regards, Jim Cameron

You can see they’ve made not even one small effort on any of it. There’s six of them, SIX adults who could work and fund some of it, and it looks like not one of them works. I know people exactly like them as I worked in Chelsea and Belgravia and had to put up with these pompous entitled lazy cnuts for about twenty years.
