Brother and nephew should be made part in restoring this property since nephew will inherit the property and learn to love and care for the estate.

Very good point. Brother showed a real understanding of the family’s role as “custodians” of a piece of local history, for everyone to visit and enjoy. He would be a real asset to securing the house’s future.

In Sweden we have system that avoids inheritance tax on the estate as long as its kept intact from one generation to another to secure the culture heritage

Nice system. Should be implemented in the rest of Europe, however rising population and shortage of housing will never allow this.

Unfortunately the U.K. has a proven track record of simply not caring about their very historical country homes. It amazes me that a nation has squandered opportunities to maintain their cultural country estates since the decline of said estates began. Somewhere there are videos on here showing the pull down of amazing country estates in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I am left with my mouth agape that the nation cared so little for their own history.

@@mrjerry28714 Well I think that the increase in the cost of living has played a toll as generally it's the working class that is amazed by such places and want to visit. Also some estates are in such disrepair that restoration is not an option. Very sad state indeed and the UK government plays a major role in this lack of caring. I guess too many foreigners in government may play a role.

@@mrjerry28714 It considers their owners as a threat to their agenda. The world wars, in particular WW1 killed many sons of 'old money' who would have inherited and kept the wealth and status in the family. They were a threat to the power of the controllers.

And don't forget the main reason these great treasure houses--the very largest of them anyway--were pulled down. Well two main reasons.
One was the advent of faster ships with coolers that carried cheap grains and produce into England and broke the hold of these farming estates.
And second was their liberal governments that pushed through the inheritance and related taxes to bleed these estates of their very life blood. And probably very little money, relative to the overall budget, was raised by taxing these treasure houses anyway.
The National Trust was too little too late for many estates.

Personally, I would’ve recommended an equestrian riding tour. Where you actually ride for eight hours, with a starting point, lunch break in the middle, and of course a couple pit stops but this would be a great chance to see the countryside, but also participate w/hands on experience..To end up, not only having dinner at the castle, but to stay one night there and even have wine tasting and it would even be really cool if that castle has its own wine because that would be good up selling. Or y”and you could even include a free bottle of wine with a VIP package? Either way if this was offered, I would definitely say sign me up. It would be a great way to utilize the stable area and the carriage house without upsetting the main house.

It seems the Viscount and Viscountess opted to go with the spa and restaurant. It appears to have been quite rewarding. They also opened the house to other activities and functions, including convention facilities. There was a fire that closed the spa and restaurant, but because of pop up ads covering the entire screen I was unable to find out what happened. It truly seems like they, and particularly the Viscountess, have put their hearts and souls into making a going concern out of the house. So far it seems the house and estate are in safe and living hands.

I agree with many comments on here regarding the UK lack of concern about our heritage and inheritance tax but my lasting thought about this episode was when Alan invited the people attending the Spa to look around his house/home! I kept thinking, I hoped they all wiped their feet but was truly appalled to see a man pushing a pram through the house!! I’m afraid I would have shared the couple’s concern having to share my home with such thoughtless people.

The worst, was when she was looking at a painting of a relative who the family said spent all the money, and her response was that he ate through all the money because he was a bit overweight in the painting, but not even close to her weight. No respect for anyone, and the necklaces she wore looked like the left overs from a tinkertoy kid's play set. This guy is much better.

The couple in this episode have so much passion for the home and for its contents, going so far as to buy back the original furnishings? Why would they NOT want to showcase their pride? If you care that much for something, I would imagine you would want the world to be able to see it. They would be absolutely PERFECT tour guides, and imagine, just opening it up one day a week could make them a nice income if there is admission, assuming the estate manager was correct in their being an adequate market for tours.
A tour of Wentworth Woodhouse is £27.50 per adult....maybe their house isnt as grand and is accessible of a location...I dont know, but that would be a decent start
