    At this point the only reason for me to upgrade from my Hero 8 would be that front facing screen 😅

      I need a upgrade because I have the Hero 2018. The reviews I watched had me convinced on the 8 but just because of the front facing screen I might change my mind.

      @@brunomarques5807 the front facing screen came in very useful for me while I was vlogging with the Hero 10, definitely worth it!

      The front screen is nice to frame selfies on the GoPro 9 and 10, but the drawback is when you have the controls locked for underwater, you can only change different modes and presets, you can NOT change settings at all (change wide angle, change resolution, etc...) like you can with the GoPro 8.

      I have the 10. For me, an upgrade from my GoPro Hero 7 Black (which unfortunately had water damage… yes, used only in 2 feet of water), but I got a good deal (around 230€ for the GPH 10) otherwise I would have probably kept the Hero 7 Black.
      Now that I have the 10, I understand why you should definitely upgrade.

    I had issue with Go Pro switching off after around 5 minutes at 5.3K. It's due to overheating. I had it set to high bit. I think it's almost false advertising if it can't record more than a few minutes safely and that sort of resolution.
    I'll be curious for someone to do a underwater snorkel dive with a GoPro 10 and 5.3 K max bitrate to see if it's still overheats

    • @MckWells

      Got a fair point. Water would be interesting but because the water isn't directly connected to the cpu the cpu could still overheat but it depends. Would have to put it on a floatable tripod and drop it in a lake or just hold it in a lake for a while and see what happens. Tap water isn't really a fair test water be either rather cold or hot.

    • @lucrativestance
      @lucrativestance 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would probably just leave it at 4K or 1080p , 5.3k is overkill and you can’t expect much since it’s a small recording sensor

    • @booya6437
      @booya6437 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used mine for snorkeling at 5.3k 60fps but was using the housing since I was in salt water and found that it was shutting off after about 15 minutes or so but I was using auto-on/off upon starting recording so I didn’t think it was an issue.

    Any recomendation between a hero as old as 7 all the way up to 10 for someone getting back into those as well as hiking and wanting something for video to record trips and needing it to attach to gear/packs?

So far despite having 3 models released since its still not quite worth the upgrade for me personally though there are a few new features I do like about the 11. I didn't think the hypersmooth could get any better but it does! The horizon lock is nice because using the 8 on a monopod when snowboarding would sometimes flip the image, also the star trail feature seems neat, the 10 bit colour sounds cool. As far as the resolution goes, 5k doesn't interest me much as 1080p is still a fantastic resolution though the quality is better on the 11

We needed something small that could be attached easily to campers, bikes, motorcycles etc. But still have a good image, decent stabilization, and a wide angle feature. We actually settled on the iphone 13 Max for that. Quite expensive, but love the features. And really like the new macro mode for catching some of those little details that only a macro lens can capture.

    I'll also hold onto my H8... that battery comparison did it for me- H10 is dead while we're still at 39% on the H8! Thanks for the review

      Come on… really? You get the Enduro batteries for like almost nothing. I got 2x Enduros for 35€ (38$).
      Now I have 3 batteries.
      I think it’s enough, unless you are filming your whole day, which I doubt that you do with the H8.

    Cool that you compared, and like your thoughts on it...however I would have appreciated a little bit more scientific approach than... almost zero. I'm sorry to say this, let me explain what I'm talking about and looking for: dynamic range is one of the most important things for these tiny cameras and a pro cinematographer's greatest concern - This is something you dont compare (dont even mention) with auto settings - you were actaully comparing auto exposure settings that point. The proper way would be manual fixed settings, all same on all cameras, then load it in e.g. Davinci or any software capeable for basic Color Correction and crank shadows and highlights and see how much data is hidden in each, how noisy it gets. Aslo comparing the high FPS modes, you need to crop to pixel level and compare details getting noise or washed due to bitrate differences. Also pros use flat color profile and tune them in post and after a certain level of tweaking noise comes in - better sensor and image processor must achieve clearer image... etc.

    Thanks for sharing. My brother and I both have the 8, mine glitches and his doesn't. I have been waiting for the go pro 10 to come out. My computer can't handle editing a ton over 2.7k but the fps and low lighting seem like a nice upgrade.

      Its probably the SD card. SD card must be rated for the GoPro. I think it has to have v30 and say 4k on it

      The question you posed about not need action cameras if you have a good phone. I’d say it’s situational. I definitely need an action camera. I’ve dropped my phone in the river multiple times filming artifact hunts. Almost lost it this weekend. My action camera purchase will be more out of a different need than most.

    I've appreciated several of your very informative videos, and I'm probably getting a 9 soon. Regardless of which Hero I get, I've having trouble getting some audio info, so maybe you can help. Is there a USB-C cable/adapter that allows me to feed a stereo line in signal, probably via a TRS 3.5mm jack? I've found a GoPro combo cable, but I suspect it may only support a mono line in. It would also be ideal to be able to power the camera at the same time via that single USB-C port. Thanks to you or anyone who can clarify!

    I was kind of expecting this since GoPro for years have only done incremental updates. I think insta360 and DJI just came in messed it all up for GoPro. I’m more excited for their action/360 cameras. Especially now that 360 cameras with the invisible stick is becoming the go to and norm once quality gets better.

      @@AuthenTech *Is the Insta360 ONE X2 better for that? I was thinking of doing the shot where you mount the camera on a stick behind the car to get that "video game" style footage.*

      Those insta360 type cameras are fantastic the only issue is that when you crop in the quality degrades.

  • @flajflaj

    Yup, "DJI Action2" is just around the corner. I saw a leak graphics from the camera manual: it's gonna be still 4k(120fps) but this time modular like Insta ONE R with possible running with only one module (something close to GoPro Session). I'm pretty sure that some influencers like DCRainmaker are already testing it and we can expect the release day somewhere in November, before X-mass rush.

    I currently don't have a GoPro, and before watching this video I was trying to choose between the Hero 9 ($200) and Hero 10 ($250). Thanks to your video, the clear choice is the 10 mainly due to the GP2 chip. Thanks for a great video!
