Nice use of your professional skills for the game. I think you've captured the feel/design of the SC universe with those structures. I would totally want to use something like that as my home base.

I like the little touch of having its number stenciled on the side. Obviously, customization would be cool, but the idea that you have say unit 54 because there have been literally 54 units produced in the game at the time you purchased one is extremely appealing.

And maybe have larger, more expensive designs for either people who simply prefer a larger place to stay, or orgs to have as a land-based HQ. I'd also adore having the ability to change the themes of the interior and purchase/craft different things to fill the inside - rugs, couches, chairs, beds, non-standard lights...that kind of stuff.

@@z-beeblebrox From the images he showed, I think it is more likely that the number is in reference to the Hab style, rather than a unique ID.
However based on the upcoming Ship naming/ID method, it wouldn't surprise me if they used the same logic - so you can name your outpost, but it also has a unique ID, maybe even one linked to it's co-ordinates

As a Pioneer owner, planning to provide advanced outpost construction services for players across the verse some day, I’d love to see this sort of more standard base building available conveniently for all, and then much more advanced and bespoke type construction accessible via the Pioneer that can include larger, more interesting structures with flair etc. Overall from having enjoy V’s apartments across Night City so much this past 6mths, it has really hit home to me how much I value a place (or places) scattered across the verse that I can decorate and call home. Personal habs will add immensely to that experience, no doubt. An important aspect of this for me, just as with vehicles are windows - the ability to look out and take in a view is a crucial thing not to be underestimated, so please ensure the higher end habs can have these - it will make placement all the better and more important.
By the way Morph, I’m late to this video but want to say I absolutely love the final concept of the ‘home in the verse’ you constructed, right down to the closeable parking garage for a pair of hover bikes. Great touch, as a ‘basic’ hab it’s beyond what I had hoped, but it surely does remind me that even the basic home building need not be boxes on stilts as we see in the current outposts.

Yeah, I do think people underestimate the scale of the universe.
Let's say for the sake of argument that only the Stanton system is ingame.
According to the website there are 2,762,975 registered accounts.
Let's say for the sake of argument that each person has 1 square kilometre to themselves.
We currently have 2 planets (I''m Ignoring arccorp due to it being entirely covered in buildings already)
There are 12 moons, and (and we currently have levski in the Stanton system, which it shouldn't be, but whatever.)
How big are these planets though?
I don't have exact measures, but I know from trips I've done that Hurston is easily 2000 km in circumference.
We'll assume for the sake of argument that this is correct, and that Microtech is similar in size, and that the moons are 500 km in circumference.
The surface area of a sphere is 4*pi*r^2
The relationship between the circumference of a circle and it's radius is C = 2*pi*r
So a 2000 km circumference planet has a radius of roughly 318 km
While a 500 km circumference moon is roughly 80 km.
This means the surface area of each of our two planets is roughly 1,270,761 km^2
And each of the moons is 80,424 km^2
Since our numbers aren't exact anyway, we'll make this 80,000 and 1,250,000 respectively.
Taken together this means the available surface area (excluding arccorp) for the stanton system alone is:
960,000 km^2 across 12 moons, and 2,500,000 km^2 across the two planets we can reasonably build on.
for a total of very roughly 3.5 million km^2
This means that if every single player account registered to the game decided to build something, player housing would average about 1.25 square kilometres each.
That's with JUST the stanton system available, and literally everyone choosing to do it.
Now, that's quite a high density in a relative sense, but...
Does it seem likely to you that everyone would choose to do that?
Keeping in mind we are meant to have 50+ star systems, this drops to somewhere nearer to 1 housing lot in about 75 square kilometres, which, if evenly distributed across the entire verse would certainly look pretty weird...
But it's hardly the worst thing imaginable.
And a lot of this rests on some very loose calculations of surface area that might be well off from the actual sizes

    • @Marco-zt2jj
      @Marco-zt2jj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@KuraIthys it's even more than what you found, 2000km is the diameter of planets iirc, not the circumference, so 1000km in radius, which means approximately 12m square km in surface area for each planet, so even just the combined surface area of the 3 terrestrial planets in Stanton is close to the Moon's surface area in real life (38m square km)
The radius of the moons instead (what you see in game if you point your ship towards the center by being on the rusface) is usually around 2-300km, so approximately 500k to 1m square km each, x12 it goes from 6m to 12m additional square km, so in total it's 40-50m square km of explorable surface right now, so like 15 square km each even if all accounts tried to colonize the entire system

You could emplace a bunch of them as market streets facing each other to create a sort of old world Bazaar (especially if you place fabric awnings between them as sun shields) and take the command modules off to be local transport or to serve as housing. Just remove/sell the flight components and you've got a two story trailer park house.

Allow approved 3rd party Organizations/Design firms with actual working experience to create content that can be implemented into the game after approval. As a fellow designer this truly excites me. CIG has a very lofty goal for their end product. Creating a system that allows the player community to help contribute to building and designing the game they already love would be an awesome opportunity.

How would that work? Would you have people build their houses in Blender and then send them to CIG for the addition of materials, small details, foliage, etc. or would you have CIG build an in-game editor for this where you could put together modular housing and add the materials and details there?

    • @JuiceBoxBuilds
      @JuiceBoxBuilds 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@matth3601 Not sure really. I would imagine having software supplied by CIG itself to create the buildings. Almost like Unreal had the Unreal editor for people to create their own maps in game. I imagine it would have a data cap so you cant have an overload of polys that would kill your FPS but you would be free to build and design anything you wanted or hired a in-game "design firm/design org" to build for you. The approval part by CIG would be more less to make sure it abides by the rules they set and no one makes giant penis towers etc. To be honest, I have no idea really. I just think with the level of immersive game play they have been giving us it would be a fun way to start truly having a functioning economy in the game with orgs that serve other purposes than protection/piracy.

They tried it with the TNGS contest and it didn't work out very well. If you don't know it, the Redeemer ship was designed by a backer, and they still haven't released it, because they needed to make it meet their standards or whatever
I think that's the main reason why they haven't done anything like that since, because they have certain standards, they have their own way of designing stuff, a certain feel and so on, so they can let backers design stuff, but then they have to spend time "fixing" it
Still, if they found a way to make it work it would certainly help with the amount of content they need to implement, and I also personally like this home way more than their prefab outposts

@@Marco-zt2jjIm aware of it sure. But thats a ship with certain attributes to hitpoints, creature comforts, docking, firepower, etc. Having player designed ships would be, and is extremely hard to balance. A static home which is more aesthetic in its nature would be far more managable. Theres an extreme difference in ships compared to a home with a simple landing pad and storage. And Im only discussing single player homes at the moment, not the eventual pirate bunkers and org fortresses.

The whole way SWG allowed you to make your structures public and allowed you to place terminals to sell inventory worked extremely well. Great design, fantastic job of rendering. Modular CONEX is the way to go. Something that would fit in a Carrack or so. You could have a different pre-assembled CONEX for different purposes and stack them as you need them. In this way pilots could get together and build whole complexes.
As much as I like Architectural design, this is mostly about survival and functionality. It's something I've thought about for years for building a place in the mountains. Unfortunately I lost the property but I used Chief Architect to design my mountain home and then realized how much it would cost to actually build it.. like $750,000, probably more now.
I have a friend who built an add-on to the family house using hay bales. It worked better than you might think, and it got me to cogitating and I came up with placing CONEXs on a slab and then stacking hay bales around them. It gets pretty cold in them there hills. For those thinking about it, no, hay bales don't burn easily. The tightly bound fibers have a lack of oxygen. The problem with hay bales is you need to coat them with something like stucco.
So then I remembered when I worked on 2 "golden domes" in Fairfield, Iowa. These beautiful domes of 20,000 sq ft each were built entirely of wood Then we sprayed 2-part insulation foam all over the top 2 ft thick, thus the golden color. I think this would be a better way to coat the CONEXs which can be sculpted in a number of ways into a more pleasing aesthetic.
    This isn't really a vote, it's more of observation/suggestion.

This is almost an iteration of IRL ISO container homes. The ships and transportation systems exist on a bigger scale so the modules are on a bigger scale.
I like how the concept leads to a logical conclusion of space, air, ground, and water vehicles that attach to home modules to move them. You could easily use the module on the surface of a water world with a floating/anchored platform or on a desert world with a foundation.
There should be airlocks for security and environmental safety. There should be interior configurations for homes, shops, garages, workshops, offices, labs, and warehouses. There could be specialty configs for submarine deployment bays, surface boats bays, etc.
The foundations should also be interconnectable with a tube/hub system for extremely drastic environments.
As pretty as your renders are, it might make more sense to have them be cube/frame based for easier transportation standardization. Or have several standards.
For those of us that like to play merchant/shipper, I love the idea of being able to transport players' bases for them and I could see forming a company/faction/co-op to do this.
I could see this leading to players bases with specializations in fishing, mining, traditional agriculture, research, water reclamation, air filter production for ships, etc.
Once they start deploying enough systems for us to hop between them, frontier bases could lead to very interesting economic models.

I logged in to SC last night to have a look around at what's new. What I saw was great, and the frame rate much improved. I lasted 10 minutes in total. After I sat down in one of the cafes in New Babbage I couldn't get up again. Tried "Y", tried "backspace" ...nothing worked. Tried re-logging twice, but each time something else wouldn't work ("F" no longer worked). Logged out. I will probably log in once a month just to see what's changed and how long it takes before a bug makes playing difficult. Compared to other games I play where, with limited time to play, I can jump straight in and do a couple of missions and then jump out again, SC is just too difficult and too random in terms of bugs to be worth going through the pain of logging in more than a couple of times a month. I am a very early backer of the game, and a lot has really changed for the better, so I'm never going to give up on SC. At 61, I still have a few years up my sleeve to wait for the dreamed of virtual world that SC has the potential to be.

Love the mid-century Palm Springs meets Star Citizen vibe. I really hope they include habitats like this as it would add to the sense of coming home and having a place in the universe.

Once they’re fleshed out, the construction and maintenance/repair industries are gonna be where my interests lie. Videos like this one instill some hope that this will one day be realized.

I very rarely hear anyone reference Star Wars Galaxies anymore, much less the housing aspect. I love that you brought that up because Galaxies remains one of my favorite gaming memories of all time.

Honestly a brilliant idea, that would be ideal for people who want to go rough it on the frontier and explore more than they want to get into dogfights and massive ships battles.
