    9:23 Morph, one of your fish appears to be escaping back there...
    In all seriousness, I love this take on the Touring Module. The seating area flows a lot better, the lighting features add both utility and personality, and I like your thoughtful take on the stairway placement. My favorite feature, though, is definitely the expanded floor window - the way it covers the entire seating area looks fantastic, and it fits perfectly with the idea of a Touring-focused ship. Like the points you made on your first 600i video, I would love to see CIG take some of these ideas into consideration for a rework of the ship.

    I know this is 3 years too late but I really appreciate how in both yours and your girlfriend’s redesigns how you made the locomotion from both of the lower sitting areas doors more easily traversable than CIG’s how you kinda had to go out of your way and awkwardly though the sitting area to traverse the room.

    The fact that you hold such high standards of quality for your channel and the content you produce is astounding. You will only grow because the level of detail and the time you put into your work deserves more credit than you receive. • @ephalanx1
    @ephalanx1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    Just to add some perspective on windows in games. When you have a glass area you have to worry about rending what is behind that glass adding to the load on your client and also what information the server needs to send to you. So that is why outside of the cockpits they try to cut down on that. Also keep in mind we dont know what space is needed for game play - collisions and the like.

    • @mr.fabulousmegardev6256
      @mr.fabulousmegardev6256 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This is probably what's going to cause the most friction between making a beautiful ship, versus what the game engine allows us to beautify without sacrificing FPS/stability. It's really a shame our computing technology is limited by potato-PC users :P

    • @ephalanx1
      @ephalanx1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr.FabulousGardeV yep - unfortunately this is the case with many many games. Only so much that can be done. The fact that they are this far with much of it is quite impressive. These are flying FPS huge levels with moving parts in them!? Wow. What other game has that? But I digress. I mean if they only had to worry about a single ship then they could probably do that but game devs always have to cut corners with any game they do. Thank god this isn’t console we’d be worse off. Another thing that kills this sort of thing is networking. Networking isn’t there in terms of latency and transferring all that data efficiently so you have to scale it back. It’s all good. We also didn’t have electric cars back in the day. Took them awhile to really get here.

    • @jbirdmax
      @jbirdmax 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Is that why there’s literally zero difference in performance when I switch to third person and start panning the camera all around?
      Rendering the reflection on the glass is far more expensive than showing what’s on the other side. That’s why none of the glass surfaces in Star Citizen have a reflection and appear invisible.

    • @ephalanx1
      @ephalanx1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jbirdmax No because you are already accounting for the pilot area and the areas in your ship that aren't culled due to a wall that you cannot see through even still you probably have your entire ship loaded up into memory because its all within LOD0-1 at the time based on distance and they dont want you hiccuping having to load the next room state as you walk into it.
      As the main player your client is responsible for rendering everything within certain distances. These are pretty large, 100-200 meters, etc before the lod is dropped to the next level. But the issue its not really for your rendering that area, its the other players seeing your ship at a distance. If they have all this area where they can see into your ship, they have will need to worry about rendering that as well. Its more expensive for everyone else outside of the ship. I'll have to find a tut that explains it better.
      Also I'm not saying this is exactly every reason for why this is done, just one potential reason. Yes the glass and reflections are also performance concerns but that can be handled sufficiently with the GPU nothing has to go back to the server for coordinates or object states that are changing constantly even at low LOD states (which are pretty paltry but still a drag that you can remove by just blocking off these areas - whos in the room, where in the room, are the lights on, etc.) Does that make sense?

    • @danilooliveira6580
      @danilooliveira6580 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      this doesn't really apply, there is a huge glass flow in the middle of the room, and there is another are of the ship that is completely open. a small window wouldn't make much of a difference, specially since there are other ships that do have windows on the rooms (if I'm not mistaken)

  • @ralaxgaming
    @ralaxgaming 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing work Morph! Excellent ship choice for this video and great job to you and your GF going the extra mile and mocking up your changes. It really elevates this architect series. Love the glass bottom floor expansion and a bigger plant or aquarium is exactly what I was hoping for. The spaces that still bug me the most are the empty space in the bridge between the back of the captain’s seat and the bulkhead and the crew quarters with the giant empty space in the middle. The back of the bridge could be used for tactical or engineering stations or maybe a small seating area for guests of the captain. As far as the crew quarters, either expand the rooms or add an activities space or something in the center. So much more could be done in this ship.

    I think that the Touring module is pretty well done. One thing I thought could be cool would be to add some sort of "Screen" that would simulate a window (maybe with a camera) to let people view the outside in their room (not the same as a window, but would work nicely, I think) and make the bottom floor a more "quit" or calming gathering area (which you managed to get that feeling of a relaxing lounge, maybe it may have some soft of coffee bar? while the rear area with the bar, pool table would be a "louder" area with musing basting, somewhat like a bar/club area. Just a thought. Great work.

Your vision of the use of the room, and her darker more exclusive look, narrow spotlights above each seat for reading, and a combination of the fish tank with plants beneath the stairs, wrapping up along the backside of the fish tank for a dramatic exotic image. I think that would make for a very contemplative space that inspires awe and intrigues while having a very relevant use

    Very well presented. Thankyou. Adding books makes me think of Jules Verne's Nautilus. Large viewscreens in the cabins would provide both a "window" (that could present more views than just whatever is to starboard or port) and an information display (I'm thinking course, weather at destination, the day's schedule and menu, mail, news, etc.).

  • @Power5

    Very nice rework. Love that you actually constructed something instead of just using words to explain it all. Always nice to be able to see if what I am envisioning the words to mean is what the actual designer is envisioning as well. Would have loved to see a window instead of that giant bookcase though. Not enough room for all the classic books that rich people may want to read, but too large overall in my opinion. Would feel more like a library than a lobby meeting space if it was fully stocked. Put a window for half of that wall and then leave the other half as the bookcase.

    Morph, You done real good bro, real good. It would be interesting to see a new rendition of the Star Runner as it has volumes of "wasted spaces". Moving the servers into the scanning area (perhaps expanding the suite), moving the Crews mess/lounge area into the old server room area. Reconfig the old mess/habitation area into a split level - Capt Berth up/2nd berthing area or medical lower. Add 3 additional bunks in each berthing space. Combine command and control (CIC) into the fwd hall with the bridge. Reconfig the 2nd bridge hallway into usable space-remote turrets & drone deployment control areas, with escape pods opposite. Engineering can occupy some of the lower level tunnel space to increase the engineering suite and a drone/droid storage & repair station.
    Another project is the SW Old Republic ship X-70B. The designers did a 600i on it. Massive ship with enough volume for 3 decks of ship utilization, wasted for 1 deck. It is supposedly a spy ship with stealth and amenities. Helluva ship designed by a great designer, but no naval architecture background. Big ship with a tiny crew...and tons of empty spaces.

    Seriously, SERIOUSLY, you need to send this to CIG. As you said, with the advent of ship customization, this would fit right in!
    I love the huge glass floor and fish tank idea. And the Water Wall, Hoo Boy, wouldn't that be wonderfully extravagant!
    I do applaud CIG on their first iteration of the specific space for the luxury variant, and it may end up being their only iteration, but with what you've created here, it may spark them to think of the space in different ways. This would be amazing and make me want the 600i even more!
    GREAT WORK!

    I like the changes you came up with, you have some great ideas. One more caveat I think you should add in your video is that we have no idea what the constraints the designers had in coming up with the version they ended up on. I’m sure they had a bunch of ideas that couldn’t be used.

    incredible work, and a super interesting video! as a mechanical design engineer, I see the manufacturability behind these ships and absolutely love that you think about that too.
    and as a space engineers addict (because what else would an engineer do in his free time) I'd LOVE if you did some space engineers stuff :D

    Like you mentioned, as a lobby, it's redundant. What I would do, put some recessed seating around the walls, remove the glass planter, and put an elevated dance pole, Build a DJ nook under the stairs and to the side of the planter. and then make the center area a dance floor. Perhaps even keep the glass floor. Maybe do some kind of grid shape to it, similar to disco squares but maybe hexagons instead? Also, make some nice colorful lighting for a dance party. This would also have the effect of making a disco lighting glow on the exterior of the ship where the glass floor is. ... Maybe extend the DJ nook around the right a bit to make a small drink service. .... ok double checking... Have the dancer platform elevated enough that you could make the bottom part of the DJ nook with a cutout to look out into the space and have a small bar to the right of that. To the right of the bar, 1 or MAYBE 2 elevated round tables with rounded sofas roped off. The bookshelves would be recessed sofas for general seating. The lighting and speakers can easily be put into the ceiling overhangs and upper ceiling. Anyways... that's my idea.

    Breathtaking really! (since seeing the 600i I feel like it deserves a movie of some sorts... maybe the universes version of titanic?)

    @Morphologis, I would replace the cactus looking plant with a vertical aquarium, but that is just me nitpicking. As for using more glass, I have a solution, derived from the Anvil Carrack just with more opulance as it's Origin.
    Keep the glass floor like you have it, it's beautiful, but when the weapons systems are armed they will be closed off by exterior extending armor panels that look like the interior/exterior walls respectively. This would scream opulence and security, something someone owning or operating an Origin spacecraft would expect as standard for the money. Using this approach to all of the glass areas outside of the bridge would also allow for some of the best panoramic vistas of any ship and would set the 600i apart and be a pinnacle of opulent engineering.

    I saw a part of the stream, and the way you redesigned the 600i, your thoughts and explantation was very interesting to listen. I always missed more view, windows in the 600i, and i really like this version. I don‘t know how much impact the glass would have to the performance, but i would loved to see this version in an 601i?
    I think, in the future, customization could add a huge amount of variety and character to ships, which you proved.
    But i must say, CIG did an awesome job, and you took it a step further to perfection.

    Your version looks fantastic. Makes me wish it really existed and I could go fly it in real life. It’s very cheerful and airy. The larger view window makes it feel much roomier. There is a technology that enables aluminum that will look just like transparent glass so in 29th century, it will be child’s play. Very impressive. Well done.

    I think it would be really cool to see you do an "Architect Reviews" in Cyberpunk 2077's Night City. With all the hype building up around that game, I think it could garner some attention as well.
    Currently, there isn't a lot of material available, but you could do it gradually as we see more and more, and then when the game is out you could go crazy. Thoughts, commenters and Morph?

    I would add 1 meter x 1 meter platform, kind of podium, in the middle of the stairs next to the plant. I already see the owner of the ship entering the room, walking down the stairs and pausing in the middle so that the people talking down stair can look up at him.
    I like the fish/plant tanks, I would like to see it with the white sofa and wooden floors.

    Who would use canned food anymore? 5:27. How about the ubiquitous food printer in the kitchen. And what about the white noise random vector generator that reproduces vivid imagery at the visual cortex? 2:55. Couldn't that supplant the need for televisions? Beds? All you'd need is a localized artificial gravity-field dampening sleep/escape pod. 8:40. Agreed. Nothing would say high-class and sophistication like the ownership of an antiquated book filled library against the backdrop of a paleolithic cave art wall on a spacefaring yacht. Another high quality video. Thanks, Morphologis.

    This is great and I wish CIG would adopt some of these ideas into the ship. I'd love to see your take on the rear habitation area, I really love what you've done with this space, and I'm betting your design for the rear area would be spectacular given what I've seen here.

    This is absolutely beautiful, the only thing I can think of to add is a backup system for the windows, like a emergency bulkhead in between the glass layers(assuming double layered glass) Incase the outer layer is breached, but that is unrelated to interior design.

    I very much enjoyed this, thank you (and your girlfriend too) for sharing your ideas. The key points I like here was the change you made to the staircase (putting it to the side) and the library. The larger viewing glass floor is a likely a win for most, although I'm afraid of heights and likely would never walk across it ! (i.e.: I've been to Toronto's CN Tower many times and to this this day, I still can't bring myself to walk across their see-through/glass floor ! LOL ; )

    Good stuff buddy. This is what I call creative critique which is critical to forward progression. I like your design, the only reservation I have would be to keep a solid foot panel directly under the seating as a fully open experience could pose problems for people with a phobia to heights.
