I decided to buy the Hluru flat board 17 key kalimba. I tried the Lingting 17 flat board but the hard edges hurt my hands. I'm hoping the Hluru will be better for me. Thanks again, your sweet voice and easy way of explaining things is very helpful!!!!

if it’s tuned to c major presumably you could also play songs in a minor (same notes) although you’re right that no sharps and flats makes it hard to play songs with incidental notes apologies for the lecture
My moozica solid wood 17 key Kalimba ($44 from Amazon plus sales tax) arrived about 1 hour ago and following your tutorial, and using insTuner (it seems easier to use than PanoTuner) and the hammer I was able to tune it in about 30 minutes. I can tap out some tunes that I'll need to practice with using Metronome but it is nice to see the notes show up in tune while I play. This Kalimba came with a nice case, nicely finished solid wood, steel keys, a starter booklet, a hammer, a bag (guess the hammer isn't supposed to go in the case) and two of those thumb things you mentioned. THANKS!!!!!
I just bought my first kalimba. I was introduced to it in a video for the song Angry Eyes by Loggins & Messina. It seems intriguing. I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years and also some keyboards. I look forward to this new instrument in my ever growing musical journey.

I can now play the Happy Birthday song on my Kalimba but I still can't play the second exercise at 80 BPM. Even at half the pace I keep making mistakes 😢 Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll get there some day with enough practise.

For me I don’t tune it again except for when I need to changed the notes like when I tune the b to b flat
It only plays songs in major scale 😪

Alternatively, you can use the hammerhead to press down or push up the tines. Knocking can be noisy esp towards the neighbors.
