Please continue this series and upload more kalimba exercises! This is exactly what I have been searching for for ages. Not just learning songs, but really practising to get better with exercices. The onliest thing I would like to see next time: Please include the tabs as text, because the keys are shiny and it's easy to get lost if you don't see those.

@@zerozeroeszeroed please don't be rude to others for spelling/grammar mistakes. English might not be their first language, they may be dyslexic or something similar, or they might've just made a mistake. Either way it doesn't do anyone any good :(

Why did I not find this video earlier?
I got a kalimba from Wish ages ago (it's perfect and beautiful, don't get me wrong), but damned if I couldn't figure out how to play the damn thing!
I already have 3 ocarinas, and apart from some initial tabs I looked up in order to play some songs, I learned over half of the songs I know completely by ear. Tabs for ocarina are also really easy to follow.
Not so with kalimbas! Kalimba tabs look like a waking nightmare, lol, and as someone who can't even read music, it just looked too complicated.
Guess what I'm trying to say is that this vid was awesome, and very simple to follow, and every bit made sense to me. Definitely going to try those Dyad notes, they sound really nice! As someone else below in the comment section also pointed out, it reminds me of the Rugrats theme song....which now maybe, I can work out how to play with these new skills. It's basically just up and down the scale after all....kinda. :P
Thanks Cameron! This is an invaluable tutorial!

I just ordered two Kalimbas for my sister. Shes not musical, yet is busy and stressed. I got her one board karimba with built in phone holder to use an App which makes playing kalimba into an easy video game. I also got her a box kalimba for enjoying resonance and wah wahs. The board karimba with phone holder and App, arrives before xmas, and the super nice two wood box kalimba arrives the day after xmas. So she can leave them out as nice display and conversation pieces, yet pick them up and play whenever. The App will get her started. After a year theres an App subscribtion to continue. The box K, includes a protective travel case also. Both kalimbas are 17 tine models. I got harmonicas and ukeleles and wood spoons and a Cajon. All except the harmonicas are new instruments to me. I love playing my Ukeleles everyday, and my wood spoons. And I got finger shakers and foot tamborines and I purchased some new harmonicas too. Harmonica is a difficult instrument to really learn, understand, and play actual music with. Anybody can make nice sounds with it though. Ukeleles are easy and fun to learn with, yet anybody can make nice sounds as well. Quality wood spoon is easy to pick up and enjoy, and are easy to play in tandem with harmonica. I canfight with several weapons at once, yet playing several instruments together is much harder. I orxered my sister a book of kalimba songs as well. It includes introduction to music theory. The book will arrive after both kalimbas. I have never touched a kalimba, yet I could certainly play one, as I understand their layout. Such a pleasant relaxing and easy little instument. Independent of electricity, easy as carrying a purse to carry. Easy to learn to play and the box kalimba I got her is also very beautiful. I shouldve got myself one, yet I live in a broken down 33 year old van with my dog. Thinking of adding on another broken down van for some extra room before anymore instruments.

Like your videos, too. But, like another person, I couldn’t quite follow the second exercise. Could you show which tines you are using? I can’t see them.

How do I tune the kalimba if I can’t tune it, I try to download one but it’s not in my country?

I'm a complete noob when it comes to music in general, but I have a Kalimba and I'd like to understand at least the very basics of how to play a tune from memory. I have a question that might be stupid for anyone with more than a first class elementary school understanding of music, but it still confused me:
When doing the arpeggios with the metronome, you're not actually hitting a key every time the metronome goes "tack". What is the timing that we should aim for in this part? I don't understand how we're in rhythm with the metronome if we're not playing one not at each "tack".

This is really useful, thank you. I just got my kalimba and am struggling because my nails are too short and picks are very slippery. But I practice anyway, hopefully it'll feel a bit more better to play once my nails grow out.

Glad to hear it helped! Playing will definitely become easier if you let your nails grow out a bit. All the best for learning the Kalimba :)

Are there any other kalimba exercises but harder? For example with two notes at the same time
