  • Where does Nintendo go after the Switch? What new consoles might they develop? Will they stick with the hybrid model forever? I don't know, but that won't stop me from guessing!

    Features I would like to see:
    - Bluetooth headset support (boy, have we been dealing with this being absent for a while)
    - Speakers in the joycons? (Like the Wii Remote)
    - Back up saves to an SD card (for stuff that can’t be sent to the cloud)

      @@theravinator1458 I will say, it's probably going to be a *little* scary for them in 2020 when other 8th gen stuff comes around. If it weren't for the fact that they have the portable space cornered, they would be in a pickle.
      They just picked an awkward time, not too dissimilar from the Wii U.
      Realistically though, they could probably get away with waiting for a long while if they felt like it.

    • @bt3743
      @bt3743 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@theravinator1458 Well lets see here the switch is incredibly underpowered compared to the competition so when gen 9 consoles come out it will be near impossible to port games and it's even already getting to that point with mk 11 running poorly and even breath of the wild a launch title draining the battery way too fast. No amount of optimisation can get every game eve ron switch so that's less third party support just like another wii u situation, The controllers are 70 dollars but still drift and break easily so that's another major issue, internal storage space is a major issue with 32 gb as the only option, the kickstand is flimsy and poorly placed, and the lack of bluetooth headphone support is not a good thing.

    • @XXLRebel
      @XXLRebel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@bt3743 You need 8K Mario then? Why would they need to port gen 9 games when their main selling point is: Mario, Zelda, Pokemon etc.(in other words; console exclusives). The other points you made were a controller which has nothing to do with the system. Internal storage space is not an issue when you can easily buy a micro-SD card(in other words; NOT their problem). Also, a flimsy kickstand? Yep, thats a reason to design a whole new Switch for😂. Then the bluetooth thing is really only a problem for a select group of people.
      Main point i'm trying to make:
      1. It still sells.
      2. It's unique (portable console)
      3. They've got great exclusives
      4. The Switch is targeted towards kids(not professional gamers), even i have a Switch Xbox and a PS4
      5. They JUST made a Switch Lite
      Why would you throw all of that out the window, just for some minor improvements. It's gonna sell regardless.

    • @bt3743
      @bt3743 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@XXLRebel choosing to keep 32 gbs and force the customer to pay more for semi decent storage is anti consumer. The wii u also had mario zelda and pokemon games and we all know how that went. The switch is not targeted towards kids,every switch commercial from launch had young adults and do you really think it took them much effort to make the switch lite? Yesit sells but so did the ds and wii but they still made consoles after those. Nintendo has an entire team dedicated towards console design. Do you really think they've been sitting on their asses for 4 years? No! they are as we speak working on whatever the next system is. Thats how product development works. The switch is a great system but it aint perfect. Console developers lose money on every single console when you factor in development costs, production, tax, shipping, Consoles are not profitable? You know how they actually make money? The games, and first party games can only get you so far, Nintendo games appeal to a relatively small audience compared to 3rd parties who can make far more games than 1 company ever could. But unlike Nintendo, 3rd parties prioritise tec specs more than anything so will thereofre make more physically demanding games and since the switch is significantly weaker compared to upcoming consoles then when 3rd parties move onto those systems then the switch will have basically no new 3rd party triple a games within a year or two. It's called buisness kid

    • @LeBrulox
      @LeBrulox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@mattjackson2799 that's not necessarily true. Yes, being more powerful means draining more energy but when you are talking about electronics what really matters is energy dissipation. Chips can have many different architectures and physical properties. One of them is resistance. If your component has a high resistance that means you need more power to accomplish a certain task but if you can reduce that resistance then you need less energy and that's exactly what Nintendo did in the Switch's revision. The newer models are much more power efficient. That's why they have longer battery time.

    I can see a "Switch 2" with backward compability as it's starting hook. Give/sell the old one, get the more powerful one without worry as to finishing building your switch collection of games.
    Or...The crazy crazyness...The one and only "Virtual console". Like litterally, a VR hybrid system.
    Think about it, the wiimote was a good start but the precision that the joycons can achieve in Ring-Fit makes me think that having them in your hands and two "leg accessories" having only the tracking function in them (making them cheaper than buying a second pair of joycons just for that) would be close to rudimentary fullbody control.
    So, why not make an hybrid that's even more hybrid?
    You can play standard games, and use the console like a Switch (portable and TV modes) or you can dock it in a VR headset. The Quest gained traction so there's already something on the market to observe how the technology goes. A Console that does VR, but not only VR would be enough for most people to give it a chance.
    Just imagine it, VR with joycons instead of big controllers. Joycons that can be separated in their classic fashion or host a new accessory with 4 buttons for your fingers instead of just L/R, making them quite the controller in VR games that don't utilize classic mapping.
    And if you don't care about VR? Just don't buy the headset-dock and it's already a more powerful Switch.
    Don't buy the TV-dock and you just got a handled (base price model) at this point. Nintendo loves accessories, making the "Virtual console" you buy only the componnents you want so YOU tailor your gaming experience to your very needs would be quite the craze yet be straight-forward enough.
    *"It's virtually any kind of console you'd want, just pick an accessory and play!"*

    I just got an idea: "Nintendo VR", they could adapt the switch controllers, make them more simplistic yet work better, and allow the player to connect their old nintendo switch controllers to the headset, and, this is a stretch, but maybe even allow them to connect their wii motes. This VR headset could obviously utilize motion controls, but it could be an optional mode for games, like with the switch and switch lite and how motion controlled games like skyward sword HD was adapted to have motion and button control layouts; They could allow the player to switch the headset and either wear it or have it bluetooth connect to the tv to play vr games on the couch. You could allow cloud saving without a membership, and scrap the membership entirely, raising sales for its easy way to play online. you could bring speakers into the new switch v2 controllers and they could also put out HD sound, with the system being able to display 4K and maybe 8K, they could finally incorporate a new web browser that works alongside a computer, and can also play online games like from cool math games through it, expanding the NVR's library by millions of small games online. They could have a simple hub menu, similar to the Gamecube's, but now designed to look like the VR headset. They could bring back virtual console and add some consoles like gamecube, wii, ds, and 3ds, still including the usual NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Colour games, and maybe Game Boy Advance. for a reboot of the system, they could make a sequel to the 3ds, just now with 4K and a more complicated button layout, they could make this version cheaper than the normal NVR and call it either the 4DS or 4KS, and could price the system around $50-$80 cheaper than the normal NVR system, its still going to be a little expensive though because this handheld would be able to play the entire DS back catalog, DSI, 3DS, DS, New 3DS, you name it, it can play it. This handheld would be able to play NVR games, now only with button control layouts. These games would all run in HD, not 4K because it would make them look really, really bad seeing they weren't designed for graphics that good. I think the Nintendo VR could be priced at $350 and the 4DS/4KS could be priced from $300-$280 seeing it's handheld only. Nintendo would still appeal to both markets, gamers and casuals AND people who prefer handhelds or people who prefer consoles. Just an idea I came up with. ; )

    A PC Gamer's perspective on what features a "Switch 2" should include:
    1. Enough performance to run Wii, Gamecube, NDS, and 3DS emulators at full speed in HD resolutions in the form of the return of virtual console, and full Switch 1 backwards compatibility (yes, I know it's a lot to ask for, but I can do most of that on PC and the current Switch is almost there if you soft mod it.).
    2. Proper online functionality (I don't really feel the need to elaborate on this).
    3. (This one's a long shot, I know, but I'm going to say it anyway) High refresh rate support. A lot of smart phones are starting to get 90hz and 120hz displays and I don't see it as unreasonable for a dedicated gaming device to have this capability. Variable refresh rate would also be nice to make sure games always appear to be running smoothly, even if it's not locked at a stable frame rate (no stuttering ever). Pair this with the previously mentioned increased performance and backwards compatibility and it would enable games locked at 30 for the Switch 1 to run at 60 on the "2", and games that run at 60 on the Switch 1 to run at 90+ on the "2" for buttery smooth motion.
    More powerful hardware along side higher refresh rate capability would make the "Switch 2" the definitive way to play Switch 1 games, and when you add virtual console back into the library, it also makes it the definitive way to play basically every Nintendo title of all time. You would, also, of course, have access to any new titles they release specifically for the "Switch 2". Making an upgraded Switch with more performance and a better screen to boost the handheld experience as much as possible while keeping the controller as compatible as possible with older games could cover literally all bases. People that like retro games would get virtual console, people that like new games can play them at peak performance in handheld mode, people that like competitive games would get a wide variety of control schemes and decent online, and people that like all their games on one platform (like me) would get it in a portable form factor.
    The current Switch is so close to the perfect gaming device and in my opinion there are only a few minor changes necessary to get it there. The biggest challenge in my opinion is getting a powerful enough processing chip that's still backwards compatible inside a handheld device with reasonable battery life and without melting.

Current phones don’t match current base consoles in graphical power and the new tegra chips aren’t gonna cut it. We have to keep in mind that a hybrid console has to have a chipset that can be utilized as a handheld device because it’s essentially a handheld that powers to a tv. Not necessarily saying that is the smartest option for nintendo, its more of a gaming necessity. Not only i really enjoy the "gimmick" of the two screens, but the DS and 3DS have a huuge library of games that are not so easily emulated in every place, unlike say... wii games. You pretty much need a hardware solution for lots of these, or at the very least to get an experience closer to the original. Seriously, Nintendo is no stranger to issues with controllers. They usually have at least a few that take a generation or so to fix.

      I'm pretty sure you're being facetious but in case you aren't, that wasn't the point of that quote. The drift issue is a manufacturing one, not a design one. When it comes to controller design, Nintendo takes the cake, and not just because they've been doing it longer, but because they're not afraid to try new things.

      @@EasyCure0 I agree for the most part but Sony also deserves a lot of credit for coming up with the Dualshock 1 controller in 1997 by taking the face buttons from the SNES controller, then adding dual grips, 4 shoulder buttons, two analog sticks and creating a timeless design which became the template for most controllers since then including the Xbox, Wii Classic, Switch Pro and even the Google Stadia controller. Plus they always add meaningful features each gen like the sixasis (gyro) on Dualshock 3 and the touchpad + the light bar on Dualshock which turned out to be essential for VR even if a bit gimmicky for regular games.
      Nintendo is certainly more experimental but what I like about PlayStation controlles is that they never remove features and innovations from previous gens and only add on top whereas Nintendo often abandons them and move on to a different thing.

    looking at a lot of the controller improvements at the end of 2020 in VR that normal none gamer people tend to really grasp makes the segment in this video about controllers interesting. as VR controls don't work with a flat-screen interface. Yes, you could argue they're just better motion controls but that's not really the point. its the marriage of the motion controls with the feeling of being in the VR world (just being able to reach out and grab something) that makes it work.
    it may be that we have just hit the peak of the type of controls needed for characters on a flat-screen

    I think the best thing about the Wii U is having that second display at your fingertips while gaming. Perfect for maps or quick selecting of items in inventories. Making controls with dedicated screens would be expensive but what if they made a joycon holder like the current one that you could clip your phone into to use this way? You could also use it to access chats when playing online with friends and this would still be available on games that didn't utilize the extra display. Nintendo could also port all the old DS and 3DS games with their original bottom screen uses.

    This is my theory: "Mustard" is a condiment. Condiments are "accessories" to whatever consumable food item you are currently, well, consuming. Ergo, I hypothesise the future of video games will be "accessories" i.e. Hardware sold separately, DLC (an accessory to the "main" game), Season passes (an accessory to your purchase, find out what it is later), Online subscription services (a premium accessory to your gaming platform of choice); all the while the focus on the "main course" dwindles. Got to be honest, when I started writing this theory I didn't expect it to end up being so depressingly accurate @_@

    I reckon the most likely outcome at this point is some kind of accessible (and optional) VR experience built into the system. A bit like the ‘labo’ cardboard headset except - y’know - actually good.
    You could have a very high res screen on the handheld with detachable controllers and some sort of secure attachment to put it onto your face - add in HD+ rumble (something like the dual sense) to the joycons and you’ve got something like a oculus (the one that doesn’t need a PC) that serves three functions - VR, handheld and home console.

    And maybe retrocompatibility with the e-shop. Because buying a dematerialized game feels just like a bad investment when you realize you don't have control over the game and you lose it once the console is no longer supported.

    I think the most important thing a new switch would need is backwards compatibility. The main reason is the eshop. When you push people to the eshop and then they fill up their sd with games due to all the crazy cheap prices they end up with a huge backlog. Unlock PC players, having a backlog on a console could hurt sales as, like myself, a lot of people would hold off if they can’t play all the games the bought but just haven’t gotten to.

  • @alexcarlone7967

    I’d like
    1) a much smaller and durable switch lights (think PSP vita, DS) that can fit in a pocket or get thrown in a back pack without worry, and that can be hooked up to a TV and still played with a Bluetooth controller
    2) A dock that adds extra computing power for the home console to make quad split screen and other features possible
    I think this is all relatively feasible and possible. I think the lite and the home switch will stay the “same console” but will slowly start to go in opposing directions

  • @omegadrive9999
    @omegadrive9999 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My New Controller Idea Pitch: Joy-Cons but instead of a traditional buttons setup, they are Mini Touch Screens with Bubble Wrap like texture. Still having the right feel of pressing and opening the door to less limited button commands, each button saids what it does rather than just A B X Y, and any additional Touch Screen Gimmicks like with the DS and 3DS.

  • @teadrinkerfication9160
    @teadrinkerfication9160 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe for the switch two they’ll make the switching process even more streamlined, eg instead of sliding the screen into the dock you just press a button on the system, sort of like a chromecast. That might then open up possibilities for making it more compact. Perhaps Nintendo is looking to bring the clamshell design to the next switch, or to incorporate a pro controller design into being the main controller of the system itself, like there could be round protruding grips rather than joycons. They could then fold into each other to be more compact.

    • @KIJUNEZ

      Gyro aiming is best. Plus with the joycons separate with the two grips, you only have to turn the right one. So it's really useful.
