  • In February I had the pleasure of performing in the brand new events space hosted at Signal Sounds, Glasgow.
    I performed a live set and followed it with a workshop/patch breakdown/Q&A.
    It was a great space to perform and present in. Great audience with some excellent questions!
    The performance was included as my personal contribution to the recent compilation published on the Instruō Record Label.
    Please check it out here:

    This is the evolution of modular, being used in a proper contemporary composition as a live instrument going through all possible sound worlds from ambient to proper noise hardcore. Next next level. Bravo maestro!

      My luthier skills aren’t up to scratch I’m afraid! 😂
      I do have recommendations for electric violin solutions though. My two electrics are fitted with barbera 5 string pickups. They have a piezo per string.
      For my acoustic I use a pickup called The Band by a company called headway. Really natural sounding acoustic pickup!

    This might be one of the most beautiful modular synths partly due to the cables

    • @sub-jec-tiv

      Best-looking modules out of any maker, imo. Just the info you need, easy to read the controls, great layout design, nice feel and construction on knobs/sliders. Gorgeous with the gold/ebony finish, too. Tasteful all around. I can’t always afford everything i’d like to have from Instruo, but i fully support independent instrument makers creating professional-level tools with top-quality fit and finish.
      I personally prefer colored stackable cables, to keep track of signal types, but there’s no doubt the gold cables look primo! 👌

    • @instruo

      Thanks Dan!
      The main big kick is a I-ō47 filter patched as a kick.
      Trigger to strike input and a decay envelope over pitch. The whole thing is going through at least one channel of tanh saturation and I think being envelope followed to sidechain various voices in the patch.
      I have my full patch notes and score saved somewhere :)

    If I could make a request, id love a slightly less professional level patch-with-me series with Instruo. The Instruoctional videos are amazing, just a little less advanced.

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Instruōctional videos are always going to be quite deep. The live ones are probably more so because it’s part of a longer performance.
      I am keen to get back to some smaller scale patches with full on camera rebuilds. They’re a bigger video production job though.
      I do also teach a sound design course here in Glasgow. :)

    Incredible stuff! I love the combination of organic and synthetic elements, the contrast creates huge depth! Which module is being used as the pre-amp for the violin? I need something like this

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks!! ☺️
      The pedals are a noise gate into a fishman aura spectrum DI. That’s then going through a passive isolator (needed for ground isolation), then into the Instruō Larachd module which is the interface from line level to modular level.
      Fairly elaborate setup… but this performance worked better with the electric violin vs my acoustic with a pickup, which had too much risk of feedback at volume.

      @@instruo mannnn that is like the opposite of what most musicians do
      I love your musical technology
      You are certainly a brilliant person
      I come from the concert scene (guitar drums etc) and am 5 years old in the synth scene so coming to a show fully patched in such a fragile way is mindblowing
      Like sure pedalboards are pretty fancy but usually pretty stable
      I feel like travelling with that eurorack style is just asking for problems

    • @instruo
      @instruo  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daneguitarist1 thanks!!
      The system did travel patched but it’s pretty solid.
      I use ties to bundle all the cables and that adds a surprising amount to structural integrity to the thing.
      There are some critical controls that I had to tune on site. Oscillator frequencies etc.
      But it’s pretty robust.
      This was actually the second performance of this patch.
      First gig being in December, this set was in Feb.
      I did the transcription during rehearsals a couple of days before the performance so I could relearn the instrument to play the score again.
      Cable management/cable ties can definitely make a system safely portable :)
