    A tip to see the Holo better on camera is to shine your phone light on it. For some reason holo LOVES phone lights.

      Holo dosen´t show right if the ligth is to soft, like a softbox or clouds make it. If its direkt light it shows the best, so Sunlight a uncoverd Lightbulb or a Flash is good. Physiks Girl explaind it very well.

    I'm a professional papermaker and love when artists start to get into handmade papers! A tip for when you are looking to work with handmade papers: Ask the maker if they add any sizing to their papers. Sizing can be internal (Added to the pulp) or external (Added to the surface once the paper is dry). Sizing is what allows us to use wet media on paper without the lovely soft fibers absorbing it all up. If a papermaker doesn't use sizing but you are in love with their paper, don't fear! You can always add external sizing. You can even make up an external sizing using egg whites ;) Some of my favorite watercolor papers are handmade paper that were never ever intended for watercolor but with a bit of sizing magic you get something really unique.

      Not a papermaker - yet ^^' It's on my evergrowing list of things I want to try, though :3 I read somewhere that one can use gelatine, too. And was wondering if something like Agar Agar would work, too (as a vegetarian version, I don't really use gelatine, I could never make that stuff work when baking, so... 🤔

      Oops, i didnt see this comment before saying something similar 😅 I'm an amateur paper maker who has been experimenting with a few different methods of sizing. I've never heard of the egg white option! I'll have to look into it since I hate the results gelatine has been giving me

      @@LunaBianca1805 Yes, definitely get into paper! You could use Agar to size, yes. Wheat starch is also a good vegetarian/vegan method. I use the egg white method since I tend to have egg whites leftover after cookie baking with the yolks.

    The handmade paper seems like it would be great for charcoal or conte. Not too great with pointy materials, too absorbent for wet media, but the pencil lifted VERY easily. You have lots of greys tones so you should totally try charcoal or less harsh pencils (mechanical pencils will definitely just rip at it)

    I've actually had a bad interaction with Canson's paper before. Specifically the XL. It was so bad I thought I had lost any skills I had as a watercolour artist and nearly gave up entirely. I watched a paper comparison review on The Mind of Watercolours and only then did I learn that the problem was the paper. It's ok if you only do fairly flat colours, but the second you try to layer them it just eats the stuff into oblivion. If I were making watercolour books I'd not use anything that wasn't 100% cotton. Its just not worth the loss in quality. I'd want people to want to reach for my book at every chance and not rely on just those who don't need to layer a million times.
    No shade what so ever to people who like this paper. I am here and Kasey is known for that very smooth flat colour look and I LOVE it. My style just is super blend heavy and Canson XL doesn't really work for me. I mean I still use it for things like playing around with colours, testing values and it's great for things like greeting cards and making tags for gifts, but I can't make a painting on the stuff.
    All of this said, I haven't used the specific type of paper that is in that book and for all I know it could be god tier. I just wanted to say that in my opinion you _can_ in fact "go wrong" with Canson. Lol.
    I hope this helps.

      Fkcucjsz. I wish I could have gotten this comment days ago.
      I ran to my art store just before my city went into lockdown (again) and picked up Canson's XL watercolour pad. And it just. More or less repelled the water. It's been a while since I've painted with watercolour, so I thought all me issues were all me. Thanks, I'll keep this in mind if I'm able to go to the store again.

    • @paranoiarpincess
      @paranoiarpincess 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Anjel1e I got lucky, after having trouble with my watercolour paper, and watching the review, I realized that I had some Arches watercolour paper I found when someone put it out on their curb for someone to come and take (had a "free" sign on it) and so when I was able to get over the depletion of self worth I felt, I used it and wow. If you can afford it, Arches is considered the best for a reason. I also purchased a small hot pressed watercolour block and it's my favourite. It's a Chinese company called Baohong and it's also 100% cotton. I really didn't know anything about the importance of paper when I first got good enough at watercolour that I was having fun, and The Mind of Watercolour really opened my eyes. I now look into the paper I buy just as much as I do the paint, and because I'm poor, I need to make sure things don't go to waste. Even though Canson is a fraction of the price of Arches, it's a bigger waste of money for me because I'm just not going to used it as much. Heck, I let my 10 year old use it, when I would never do so with the Arches stuff.
      I hope I'm able to help you for future purchases ♡.

      @Anjel1e 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paranoiarpincess It totally does! I'll try to keep that in mind the next time I go to the store (which might be sure then I would like as I didn't realize I'm out of yellow acrylic). I Thank you again! Hope you and your family is well during these crazy times.

    • @danigolightly799
      @danigolightly799 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It definitely depends on how you paint. I’ve used a lot of papers including Arches, and Canson XL 140 lb is my favorite for my painting style. I use microns a lot and some papers are far too toothy for my pens, but not Canson. I think it’s worth it for watercolor artists to experiment with papers to find what works best for their work.

    This was an amazing video. I would be so happy if you made more like this. Perhaps you could get a sponsorship from Etsy, so you don't have to buy all of the supplies from your own money?

    3:45 so if you paint a full picture with these & tilt it... it'd just be a dark blue sheet of paper but then you turn it & BAAAHM :O

    From experience, making handmade notebooks IT'S NOT EASY but it's worthy, I love how they look when they're finished

    I make handmade paper too and I've done a few paintings on it. First of all, there is a difference between raw paper and sized paper. What you have is raw I imagine, and it is definitely harder to work with water based stuff but its not impossible. I suggest goauche or acrylic and I've also used a sponge to add color with inks and watercolors (it takes a while to dry though). If you get sized paper, it can handle everything from watercolor to alcohol markers (but not heavy use of either). Hope that helps!

    The brushes for me were way too flimsy, but I am a bit.... aggressive when I paint. 😂 I think the concept is fricking amazing, I hope brands follow suit with more ethically manufactured items. Love the video!

    I think you could get some watercolor ground to convert that paper to watercolor paper. I've been so interested in playing with watercolor ground...

    Hey there! I use the iuile watercolour palettes in my work! To make them their ultimate pigmentation, drop the water on the paint and leave it for 3 minutes, THEN paint! Especially with that holo!! You won't regret this trick!!

    Hi Kasey! There is this thing called #Thankmas where youtubers and streamers join together to spread awareness and collecting donations for the red nose day. Originally started by the one and only Jacksepticeye. I was just thinking would you be interested of streaming for the same cause? You can find the info from Jack's latest video if you are. I think it would be more than cool to get the art community involved as well! Anyways, amazing art as always Kasie! If you read this, thank you so much!

    Sorry to ask but what kind of sketching/outlining tools (white gel pens, pencils, paint brushes, regular ink pens, paints, fine liners, etc.) do you use.

    I’m confused about what they paint dots on the little pieces of paper are for? Are they useable for painting? There’s not very much.

    It looks like the paper you got from white dragon was meant to be stationary or bookbinding paper!! Which is why it’s so thick but kinda rough and absorbent. I looked on their shop and they do also make special watercolor paper too :))

    i think the big sheets of hand made paper are more made for gouache and acrylics that water color. I had very absorbant paper like this before and water colors were awful on it but the gouache was WOW! so try the gouache on it :) also, they are not meant to be solicited that much, so avoid to much pencil sketch and erase on it.

    With the iuile watercolors, they really benefit from having water dropped in them and letting them activate for a little bit.
