  • Travelling outside of Beijing is difficult right now, so we set out to discover what the city has to offer, without leaving the province.
Beijing has many sides to it, but on the steep slopes of Yunmengshan we were shocked to find epic peaks, thick forests and some seriously lairy weather so close to the city.
This is - Away From The Sprawl - Exploring Beijing's Secret Mountain

I've been on many cable cars in China and I think 160 RMB is pretty standard, especially for a long / high ride. I actually think entrance tickets for most Chinese attractions are pretty pricey compared to the income level and other expenses. I remember how shocked I was about the entrance tickets to Harbin snow and ice festival...

Seeing you outside, climbing the mountain and enjoying the spectacular scenery and views in my hometown really makes me happy. Anyway, as a Beijinger and considering your condition of the leg that you have mentioned in your video, I'm highly recommended that you can go to Xiangshan park (Fragrant mountain) adjacent to Beijing Botanical Garden.
On the other hand, if you fancy hiking, you do not enter the park and just walk through a path which can reach the top of the mountain (Hao Han Po 好汉坡). The scenery and views are far more different than Peak District next to your hometown. The same things, however, the hares, squirrels, many birds and the variety of wildlife can be found.
Apart from that, you can plan to visit Yanqing district by train S2, at which the 2022 winter Olympic Game will be hosted. In Yanqing, the Haituo mountain and Song Shan National Reserve are worth to see, which are fewer tourists than Badaling.

You can go to BeiWu park(北坞公园) or YuDong park(玉东园), which are together landed to the west of Summer Palace. There you can see massive rice paddies inside the city park, which is also very well designed to be merged with the views around. It is quite unique to see rice paddies in Beijing, within the distance of a taxi ride. Or you can take the metro to go there, by line 10 and transfer to West-suburban Line(西郊线) and take off at the station called Summer Palace West(颐和园西门), or Cha Peng (Tea Shed - 茶棚) . Then you can simply walk there in 10-15 minutes. Remember, go there in the middle of September, then you can see the best blended color of green and golden yellow.

Yunmengshan is a nice place in northern Beijing, if you looking for place like this, there's a beautiful canyon just on the west side of Yunmengshan in Yanqing District, it's called Bailihualang (百里画廊). White River flow through the canyon, villages under the hill. Definitely has good scenery and easy for tour!
In Western Beijing there's some good mountains too, if you like culture, I recommend Xiangshan Biyun Temple (碧云寺) in Haidian District & Jietai Temple (戒台寺) in Mentougo District. Not far from city and has some good views too. If you looking for nature, you can go to Lingshan (灵山) near west border of Beijing. Mountains are like 2km high, and the views always remind me of The Lord of the Rings sence. bit of diffcult to trip tho, since is pretty far from town. Need to have prepared.

    Hey Nico,
How about visiting Beijing's bookstores and the ever excited students who gather to chat and practise English with the odd Westerner who wanders in. ? Plenty of students seemed to be reading quite a bit of the texts too before purchasing. The two or three storey bookstore on Wangfujing Street is fun. Pretty sure there was food in the basement level too. The store's down the end where the tourist food night market is. Anyway I loved it to soak up some local interaction and meet some "newest bestest friends".

I think, from memory when I was in the Yellow Mountains last year the cable car two way was about 140rmb during peak season (summer). But in my experience that's common; they will have different prices in different seasons. Have you done the walk from Fragrant Hill through to the Botanical Gardens?
