there's a documentary about filipinos where a resource person said, "there are no single serve recipes for filipino food. recipes are for meals that are meant to be shared." that's one indication of filipino hospitality.
The Philippine people seems very hardworking....innovative. like the idea of grocery/restaurant can shop and dine in the same place...nice....the meat dishes looks spicy/tasty... Fish looks nicely fried too....all the foods look good....Thanks for showing David....have a safe blessed weekend....Peace..
new sub here. i like your long-form vid! a breath of fresh air from the over-edited, fancy, short vlogs. amazing. and glad you love our food! visit the Philippines coz every region has their own specialties that are not known in the mainstream. keep making vids!
Brickell Ave here, David... but never heard of Pampangueña, so thanks. My go-to 🇵🇭 restaurant is in downtown, Manila Kantina, but that place is always packed, and parking is a special case lol
It was never called dirty ice cream in my time. It was those newer generations and those rich Filipinos who do not want their kids to eat local ice cream. Dirty ice cream monicker should be banned. It is not dirty. We call them sorbetes and the seller is sorbetero or mamang sorbetero in my time.
Well it is most likely dirty. But we have antibodies and those who were used to it wont get sick. Dirty Ice Cream does sound fun. It is more cultural than 90% of street food that vloggers feature in vlogs about Filipino street food. Dirty or Not, it is great. They are bringing back the sorbetero in the streets of places like Dumaguete, probably staged for Tourist and vloggers.
Well, they really were dirty because the ice creams were prepared in unhygienic conditions and used ice, salt, and rice husk to bring down the freezing point. But people developed immunity. So...
MABUHAY. For the record. PAMPANGUENA is like a native from the province of Pampanga. Which is the culinary capital of the Philippines. Where Sisig is Originated and one of the famous dishes that we are proud of. I'm from PAMPANGA and A PROUD KAPAMPANGAN. Thanks for this vlog and promoting the Philippines and the food that we can offer to the table. Everyone is welcome to visit. "MALAUS KAYO PO" as we say it in pampanga dialect.
52:20 English is taught in grade school but most Filos only enrich the reading part but not speaking part because we dont usually have application for it.
Adobo is best enjoyed when paired with a serving of rice. Zamboanga City, situated in the southern part of the Philippines on the island of Mindanao, is known for its unique blend of broken Spanish language. The term "Halo-halo" translates to "Mix-Mix" in English, signifying the need to thoroughly mix all the toppings before consuming the dessert. Unfortunately, the lady who prepared the Halo-halo did not do so properly. It is important to note that most of the toppings such as Jackfruit and beans should be placed at the bottom, while the ice cream, Ube, and Leche Flan should only be placed at the top.
Yeah, I don't know when they started calling it Dirty Ice Cream. Only non-Filipinos call it by that name. It is still locally called as Sorbetes. And yes, the vendor is called Sorbetero. There is even a very popular song in the 80s called Mamang Sorbetero which means ambulant male vendor of Sorbetes.
Are you living in the Philippines or not? Because, actually, it's a well-known fact that middle-class and higher socioeconomic status Filipinos DID call it "dirty ice cream" way way before, which may no longer be in our politically correct world today, if you are below fifty, and live in the Philippines today. This is just ignorance of the culture from previous decades and that of the higher social classes. It was to differentiate it from the better-known Magnolia Ice Cream, Silver Bell Ice Cream and their well-known clean ice cream factories from bygone days.
If I were a vlogger and I will vlog their restaurant, I will pay whatever food they'll served. Business is business, it helps the business by paying what they served aside from helping them get more customers because of featuring their restaurant.
We Filipinos enjoy our meats/fish/ veggies with garlic rice 🍚. You guys need to eat your garlic rice with your food. Lol hello 😊 We’re happy you like our food & culture 😋🇵🇭🥳
There is a seafood adobo---adobong pusit or squid adobo is a staple--but you can pretty much adobo anything including fish and shellfish. What Filipino doesn't know this stuff? Oh yeah the western-washed ones.
I suggest south of Luzon bicol area caramoan island, calaguas, and you can see the majestic mayon volcano. Plus its not too touristy there if you want you can go north of Luzon batanes group of islands i think the American military are building a base there. Its is not touristy if you should choose to go to palawan go south balabac island but be very careful though. there are armed man harrassing the locals of that island from what ive heard in the news.
Traveling to every country in the world is much easier if a single man than if you are a single and solo female traveler, especially in countries where women don't have equal rights to men. A single and solo woman traveling in Afghanistan would could get harassed or intimidated regularly. Its easy for a man to say they had a good experience traveling to Afghanistan. I would doubt they would say the same thing if if they were female. That being said, the Filipino food scene in Miami looks very strong and promising.

I believe they call it dirty ice-cream because it is generally sold by roving vendors along the street.
