Agree 100% I have always loved Asian food, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese....Had Korean a bit...but up until a few years ago had never had Filipino food. Then one opened up right next to the place I worked (sadly gone now, replaced by another Filipino place I don't think is as good.) I tried some things that looked interesting and just was like, why have I never eaten this before? It's amazing! Pancit palabok (shrimp-garlic gravy noodles) sisig, something they called torta at this one place (ground pork, tomato, potatoes, vinegar, garlic....) ....and fried eggs and garlic fried rice. MAN. So freaking good!

Thank you for sharing and giving us your opinion on Filipino food. You are right, Crispy Pata is a part of the pork's leg from the knee down. You are right, Sisig are usually served in an cast iron dish where fajita's are served. The egg yolk should be runny so the yolk rolls down the rest of the pork. That Crispy Pata looks good, usually dipped in soy sauce or vinegar. The soup Bulalo is a mild dish consisting of bone marrow, no oxtail. This soup is always perfect for cold or rainy weather, or when someone is sick. The cabbage are usually chopped, but some try to either keep it traditional by living it in big chunks, or to save time. They should be smally enough to fit on a spoon since Filipinos eat with fork and spoon. Tapsilog means Tapa (beef) + Sinangag (fried rice) + and itlog (egg). Its a breakfast item usually just silog (fried rice and egg) this is added to other dish. This is one thing I miss about California is the ease of going to one of these Filipino restaurants and markets where it's so simple to get food or items to make a proper dish. Now, I have none of those near me. Even though I love to cook, specific asian ingredients are hard to find. I hope you enjoy some of our Filipino dish.

    you're missing out.
    1. put some calamansi and a few drops of soy sauce on your sisig. if you eat it on a hot plate/ that cast iron pan thing they usually serve it on to keep it sizzling, you're supposed to mix the raw egg in it instead of eating it fried. it makes the sisiz creamier altho the original sisig doesnt really have egg in it.
    2. a few drops of fish sauce on the bulalo soup, you would think you dont need more seasoning but trust me, i love eating
    3. ask for some achara or pickled papaya for your tapsilog. also best with garlic rice / garlic flakes

oh dang...you got the important Filipino food items, in my opinion or at least to my taste. my trick to eating the TapSiLog (Tapa-Sinangag [Garlic Fried Rice]-Itlog [Itlog]), especially if the egg yolk is runny or wet, is to plop over the egg on top of the rice then slice the whole egg from there and let the sinangag absorb the yolk.
if you have time, do checkout the lechon kawali, ToSilog (tocino - a cured pork meat on the sweet side. almost like bacon they say) and LongSilog (longganiza - Filipino sausage. there are lots of variety of longganiza. it can be on the sweet side, garlicky side or a combination)
    Mabuhay and enjoy the food!

Filipinos eat with their hands. Sure, spoons and forks are used as utensils instead of knives and forks. We finally evolved😆. But in a lot of instances where families are gathered for a celebration done at home. Eating with your hands are welcome (washed and cleaned). And there is no wrong way of eating the way you are eating them. You're in a confined space. Enjoy the food! That's the point for Filipino foods.
    Enjoy and stay safe!

for a bit of a background, our cuisine traces its roots to our various native ethnic groups' different styles of making and preparing food and was influenced by many cultures over time, such as Malay, Chinese, Spanish, American, and even Arabic, Mexican, and Indian to some extent. that is why Filipino cuisine is often referrred to as a "melting bowl" of different cultures.
anyway, i love this review! the way you eat and describe the food is very natural, unlike other food vloggers who can be too pretentious. the way you pronounce the names of the dishes are very good as well. also, you're so pretty! you just gained another subscriber. i suggest you might want to try other Filipino dishes next such as chicken inasal, sinigang, adobo, caldereta, and my favorite kare-kare. i'll be waiting for that.

My problem with Filipino food is that I said that I will save something for later but I ended up devouring it all. It doesn’t matter what food you start to eat first, the flavor just don’t clash. You can’t stop. Also, there are several ways to eat and enjoy the food like by itself, with a sauce, with a soup, with veggies and that lumpia/egg/garlic rice just bridge it altogether. I totally enjoyed watching you guys savor the food.

Each dish is paired with corresponding dips. Pata -> soy sauce with vinegar. Tapa -> vinegar with garlic. Bulalo -> patis with calamansi juice. All of them can be leveled up with spices.

TAPSILOG means TAP for tapa the beef, SI for sinangag the fried rice and LOG itlog for the egg, and for the TAPA our language has some spanish into it because we were colonize by spaniards for a long time so we have some spanish mix into our language

Hi! I'm Filipino and I'm glad that you enjoyed our food. The sisig and pata would be great if paired with beer. The bulalo is fantastic for cold weather or if you have a hangover. We also have great desserts like leche flan and halo-halo. Maybe you could give it a try! (Ps. Eating with you barehands is very Filipino!)

7:54 in Argentina we call that Puchero, it's really good for winter and we put potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, spinach and more vegetables! That type of meat we call it osobuco, it's kinda the "pata" of the cow and it's really delicious 😋

most Filipino food is intended to be eaten with rice, that is why the dishes on their own are seasoned strongly. The rice balance or softens the strong flavors.
Tip: if the dish is too salty/sour/sweet/spicy, just add more rice on your spoon to water down the strong flavor.
