The Lucid Air Dream Edition weighs a hefty 5,236 lbs whereas the Tesla Model S Plaid weighs 4,766 which is NOT 5,000 lbs btw. That’s also a whopping 470 lbs less than the Lucid Air!
No wonder the Plaid can dance whereas the Lucid Air is more of a GT car or boulevard cruiser. That also explains how the Lucid gets the range - they stuffed a lot more batteries in there while also making the car very efficient.

Well to be fair rawlinson did work for tesla, and the air debuted to much fan fair 69 month's ago in April of 2016.
Since then it's neen nothing but broken promises by lucid and raising more in billions than even tesla has needed so far. 🤔
Now the lucid air dream is here but somehow slower, goes further but only on a 30% larger by useable battery and it costs 30% more than a plaid does. With no existing network yet to service the cars, no sc network to charge them on etc.
I'll be curious to see if lucid even survives the next few year's. Without being absorbed by another company along the way.
Since even rawlinson admitted they'd like to go the rimac route and build motors&batteries for other oems. 🙂

@@4literv6 Wait, you got a few things wrong here. The only promises they may have broken would be related to their delivery timeline (very much in Tesla fashion, lol), but the car achieves all the numbers they said it would (Very much in Tesla fashion again).
Usable battery's only ~20% bigger, not 30%. And while it does cost 30% more than a plaid, in real world tests it went 200 miles further, showcasing higher efficiency, while charging much faster.
Once again, the car does everything they said it would, and it is honestly quite unfair to expect every new EV to launch with its own network when even Tesla needed many years and many more billions than Lucid ever had to get where they are today.
But yeah, It'll be interesting to see if they do survive and succeed or crash and burn miserably. The next few years won't be smooth sailing for sure. And they already seem to be struggling with production. While they do have Saudi overlords bankrolling them, you never know how long that support will last.

      @f3nixfire 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@electrified0 Maybe. It depends on how easy it is to put into launch control. I know the original p85d you had to prepare the car for something like 30 min before it was ready for its best performance. Obviously, that isn't realistic on the street so this test would make sense. However, I know the plaid doesn't need that anymore.
Plus, these modes aren't just launch control. They also change the mapping of the ecu that affects power output and delivery. When you aren't in this mode the car isn't delivering its maximum power. It quite literally is a handicap.
If activating launch control is anything like my Lexus where all I have to do is flick the dial over to sport plus and its ready to go then I would say this test is irrelevant. My Lexus is a completely different car between eco mode and sport mode. You're essentially racing two different cars between the two modes.

I'm not a fan of ass-kissing the Tesla but you got to hand it to them - they showed high-performance family sedans can be made and that it is demanded. Without Tesla's high-performance models we'd see competitors focusing only ever on efficiency and therefore not high-performance.
      And not just that:
Tesla also showed car software experience doesn't need to suck and is demanded.
Tesla also showed there is consistent demand for good EV's and you can grow a company by only focusing on EV's.
I believe it was BMW that long time ago said "they found little demand for EV's" - well BMW made an ugly EV so there's your missed data point. Even Nissan, despite its flaws in the first and latter Leafs showed there is consistent demand. Renault was also one of the earlier players that showed there is consistent demand for cheaper, good EV's.
But ultimately Tesla is leading the charge and convincing manufacturers of all segments.
You can dislike Elon, you can dislike the brand, you can dislike Americans or whatever else but there are facts you can't deny. Much like there is a strong possibility China manufacturing will take over leading this charge soon if it hasn't already - and Tesla did the smart thing by opening a factory in China - you might not like it but it is the world we live in.
