    I've been binged watching you since I Found your channel yesterday! you have been the most informative out of all doctors online and in person. you have explained things in such a detailed manner that leaves me wanting more information. I know MDs are busy so they don't usually have time to sit and get detailed so thank you for this. Because you don't just explain what, but you also explain why so thank you again!!!

    I have learned more in just a few of your videos about my cycle, thank you. I just turned 40, dealt with infertility and recurrent miscarriage for 12 years (I saw numerous specialists) since having my miracle son (naturally) in 2018, we have been dealing with issues again but not sure how much is tied to my body healing after the postpartum thyroiditis that I went thru. hoping with the new information things will get better now. I wish I lived anywhere near so I could see you as a physician, but thank you for sharing knowledge with us!

      Right! I'm 38 and I never learned anything about ovulation. All I ever got was the ole birds & the bee's talk and once you start having a period your able to get pregnant. I'll tell ya, that made me so paranoid in my late teens that I had double protection condoms & BC. Here I am 38 with an 8 year old son and I'm just now finding out this ovulation tracking and that I have ONE DAY a month?!?! 🤯🤦🏻‍♀️ I got an A in health and sex ED, but never learned anything about this. Wow. Best video ever!

    Discovered your channel through Mama Doctor Jones :) This is such an informative video! I'm wondering what you meant by "odds are you're not ovulating"? You say that if cycles aren't perfectly predictable then that's the case, but in my experience irregular cycles generally mean irregular ovulation - not *no* ovulation. I know of several accidental pregnancies because women thought they couldn't get pregnant due to irregular cycles. My cycles are usually 30-35 days long - would you call that irregular? I definitely ovulate and had no problem getting pregnant.
    And I want to put in a good word for BBT! :) I'm currently 18 months postpartum and breastfeeding, and my cycles haven't regulated yet - but with BBT I know if I ovulated so I can predict when my period will be (more or less, since my luteal phase it still shorter than usual), I know when it makes sense to take a pregnancy test, and I know when I'm definitely not pregnant :) I also know if a bleed is a real period or just a breakthrough bleed. I guess it might be stressful for some women but I *love* that I have the data - my body isn't a mystery to me, I know what's going on and I'm really happy to have all the information. For someone who likes to be in control, taking your BBT every morning can actually help you feel calm and in control.

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD
      @NatalieCrawfordMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some people with irregular cycles have NO ovulation - just breakthrough or overflow bleeding, but you are right sometimes it is irregular (unpredictable) ovulation -which makes it hard to time. But irregular cycles are not contraception! And congrats to you 💛

However, if one is on birth control how long after one stops taking it do they need to wait to allow their body to essentially play catch up/ become balanced?

    Dear Doctor, I stopped with the pill a year ago. After some very regular cycles my past 3 cycles have been very long (35-38 days). I started doing digital ovulation tests in the last two cycles and they both were positive (indicating fertile days). Does that mean I am ovulating despite the long cycle? Or is it possible to get a positive ovulation test and still not ovulate? Thanks in advance for your reply. Your channel helps me so much!

    Your videos are amazing. I was on birth control 10.5 years. I took the pill. I got off the pill October 28 and got my normal period like I would on the planned day it always started- the following Tuesday. After that I have gotten a period each month. My husband and I just started trying January 8th this month. I sadly got my period on the 21st. I took a Clear Blue ovulation test and got my smiley face yesterday. We had intercourse last night. Guess my real question is are these real periods I’m having or is the birth control still affecting? Thank you!!!

    Apologies for the very shallow understanding here, but I'm struggling to wrap my head around why BBT is any better than the calendar method. It seems BBT merely marks when the fixed-duration luteal phase begins, which seems not very helpful since all the variation happens during the follicular phase. My interpretation of that is that it only works for women who have very regular periods, so same as the calendar method, but with more work? I know I'm missing something here, as this method seems to be relatively popular.
    I know you mention that BBT is not very helpful, but I'm failing to see how it's helpful at all. Are there types of people for whom BBT would be the ideal type of fertility tracking? If so, why?

    Thats for a great video! I am not trying to get pregnant but looking to prepare for the future and learn about fertility / ovulation well ahead of time as I am 27. I have an app that tracks my cycles and predicts ovulation. The predicted ovulation day seems to be a little off, I get creamy sticky discharge THEN egg white discharge (shouldn't it be the other way around?). Can you get stretchy egg white discharged after ovulation? Or is my track predictor just wrong. My cycle is tracked at 28 days on the app.

    • @MommaBeeb
      @MommaBeeb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s possible your app is wrong. In my understanding, sticky and creamy fluid will proceed the egg-white fluid. The egg-white stuff is during your most fertile time nearest ovulation. I’d highly recommend researching the sympto-thermal method of fertility awareness, just to get more info about these things.

    • @sandrafofie4473

    • @bethm8967
      @bethm8967 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Egg white cervical mucus is the most fertile cervical mucus and is most likely found in your fertile window of days. Sticky cervical mucus is considered non fertile mucus and your cervical mucus changes throughout your cycle. Usually in this order
      Dry ( days of your period)
      Few days after period dry cm or creamy, white cm
      The closer you get to ovulation the more slippery or watery your cm becomes
      After ovulation it will go back to sticky, white , or creamy ( non fertile cm)
      It helps me to understand the purpose of the cervical mucus to begin with. So the fertile cervical mucus ( slippery and wet) helps transport the sperm to the egg better.
      Sticky white cervical mucus not soo much lol
      Hope that helps lol

    Do you always ovulate around the middle of your cycle? So if your cycle is irregular and 20 days, would it be around day 10? Or 40 days, around day 20? Or is it random from woman to woman. Thanks!!

    • @brittanyend57
      @brittanyend57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know it has been a few weeks, but no, you wouldn't ovulate right in the middle of your cycle. The post-ovulation (luteal) phase of your cycle is usually pretty consistent from person to person even with different cycle lengths and is usually around 14 days plus or minus two or so. So if you have a 24 day cycle, you would ovulate around day 10 (24-14) and if you have a 35 day cycle, you would ovulate around day 21 (35-14). So it's only the first part of your cycle that is variable, not the second.

    Before I continue with my comment, I want to say I love your videos and they’ve been really helpful for me! That said, There’s a few things that are confusing in this video. (And I realize it’s two years old) but I use the Premom app and they specifically say NOT to stop testing LH after your first positive cause it may not be your peak, which is the case for me every time. Ie this month I had a positive / peak LH test, but then it only went up for the next two days so I didn’t ovulate until 3 days after the first peak. The next thing that I noticed was a little off with what you said is the egg white CM. again, for me, This is not on the day of ovulation, and I have also read that there’s a lot of studies that have shown that the egg white CM begins several days before ovulation so, she said pretty definitively that when you have that that’s when you’re ovulating, but I don’t know if that’s the case for everyone and it’s definitely not for me. The last thing I also wanted to mention is I read a study that shows a very strong correlation between conception, and the egg whites, cervical mucus. what she said about having sex on ovulation day being the highest chance of getting pregnant is pretty much what everyone says on the Internet and everyone will tell you, but there’s actually been a very large study that has shown that the highest chance actually tends to be 2 to 3 days before ovulation because of the cervical mucus, which, in this study was shown to on average be two days before ovulation. Just wanted to comment here in case anybody else is watching this and is like me because that could make it more confusing for someone trying to get pregnant

    I have a very important question if you have time since you are a woman fertility specialist I just really want somebody to hear me with my concerns. Husband and I have been trying for a baby for about nine months now and granted I am 24 years old so I’m still young. I’m currently seeing an OB/GYN doctor and have been taking different doses of letrozole for about 4 to 5 months now. I’m currently on 7.5 mg. I’m getting a progesterone level drawn Monday to see if I’ve ovulated this cycle. All my previous cycles with ovulation test and doing basal body temperature have said that I have not ovulated. All my labs that I had done at the doctors office were normal except my testosterone was slightly elevated at 77.6. Since starting the letrozole all my periods have started becoming normal but my cycle days are lasting around 30 to 32 days. I’m just wondering when a fertility specialist referral will need to be done or if there are other ways I can try to figure out why I’m not ovulating. I’m so sorry for the long message but I just really need some peace of mind and just a second opinion. Thank you, Shannon E

    Hi Doctor! I was wondering if you could help me out. It appears to me, that im only ovulating on my right side. My own reasons for believing this to be true are:
    1. I only feel pain every other month, only on my right side during ovulation time.
    2. I never have a positive opk when my left side is supposed to ovulate but i do on my right side when i feel the pain on that side.
    3. I never have cervical mucus on my left side but i do the right.
    However, i still bleed every month consistently. So, because of this my OBGYN doesnt want to do any tests and she thinks i should be ovulating.
    Can i not ovulate but yet, have a period? Can something help me ovulate on my left side? What’s my next step?
    Thanks for your time!

      Hey Brittany, I’m not a doctor, but I think you should insist on testing or find another OB/GYN (if that’s even possible for you).

    Hi Natalie, I was wondering what happens in your body when u 'skip' your period ok the Pill. I have routinely done this (either to avoid bad timing, or just to have a period every second month just for convenience), and have never thought much of it. But am now curious how this works in terms of the cycle of follicles etc, and of returning to a normal cycle off the Pill.

    I have been trying to get pregnant with my second child for 3 cycles using opks and I would get a surge between CD 15-18 and get my period 14 days after that surge. My cycles are 29 days. I'm doubting if I'm ovulating since I'm not getting pregnant and I'm having sex every other day and once I get a LH surge that day and the day after. :(
    I'm 29 years old.

    Thank you for this video! Is it possible to ovulate 48-96 hours after a positive OPK? I typically don’t feel cramps(assuming they’re from ovulation) 3-4 days after a positive OPK. I’ve had blood tests done on day 21 showing that I have ovulated. Thank you!

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD

      Yes - usually you are feeling the corpus luteum (cyst from where you ovulated). Typical ovulation is 24-48 hrs from a positive OPK

      You can have abnormal bleeding without ovulating but it would not occur at regular intervals, if regular - then that is the number one sign you are ovulating.

    Question: I had a miscarriage on week 9 and since then my periods have not been regular (34 days, 21 days and 37 days...). I've been to a few gynecologists who told me that I am probably ovulating because they either saw a follicle or signs that there was one. Obviously I'm trying to get pregnant and very frustrated (I'm 34). LH sticks don't work for me, I never see the surge and having trouble checking exactly every 24 hours. What is the best way for me to find out when I'm ovulating?

  • @claudiaaegsidone

    I'm getting egg white mucus between days 7 and 12, I usually miss my peak with the LH strips because I've only found it once or twice in the 7 months we've been trying. My cycles are always 26 - 33 days long, however, the average is 29. I've had my blood tested for all of the hormones, vitamins, AMH, etc. Nothing is wrong. My husband has done a semen analysis and the results were above average motility and concentration.
