Trust me, don’t do this! I did it and regret it every day. Now that I am debt free I am chasing those firearms I sold and they are way more expensive now.
If a firearm is a necessity in life, you may have a point. But if it is some form of luxury, I would never go into debt for that, never!

Firearms are one of the few items you can buy that actually increase in cost over time.
Can't think of a single firearm I have bought that went down in value. Most have doubled or tripled over 20 years.
Yeah but have you ever tried to sell one? It’s hard to actually get a good value for them. Gun shops and pawn shops offer you like 100 bucks. Might as well just keep them. Too hard to sell them.

I am a female and honestly I don't think they are very comparable. Unless maybe I'm lugging a brick around in my purse, it's more likely to attract criminals than stop them. I think purses and video games are more comparable

I was ready to be horrified by Dave's answer but it seemed reasonable. However, the short answer is he doesn't need to sell any of them and later he can add to that collection.

That’s why Dave said to not sell them unless he has extras he doesn’t like as much as the rest. Why have multiples of a gun sitting in a cabinet if you are in debt? Obviously have one or two weapons per person in the house, but a collection is unnecessary if you can’t afford it

I think he said he is in to 1911’s and he carries a customized Wilson combat in .45. But I may be wrong on that. I’d love to see the collection too. Like instead of “Jay Leon’s garage” its “Dave’s armory”

Good advice for any serious collector. I had many guitars and I got rid of those I reflected on and didn't "love," thinned the heard and also reeled in my collection to a reasonable level :)
most guitars don't go up in value.
firearms go down in value when restored. every single year there are less collectible items available.

I definitely think there are stages in collecting. There is a time where you take in everything. Then you end up having things you don't use. Then eventually you unload the collection when you get older. I am in the early stages of collecting and I met older collectors that sold me their stuff knowing I was a collector that wasn't gonna flip their stuff.

I wouldn't call myself a gun collector, even though I have quite a stack of both old and newer firearms. However if I really needed the money then the only gun I would never sell is the one I carry everyday.

The possibly $2 to $3 million WWII memorabilia collection my father accumulated... all burned in a fire.

You have to have each item professionally appraised and specifically covered or it is just scrap metal to the insurance company.

If I had a gun collection I would sell my wedding ring before I sold my guns especially being that I have a basic ring that can be bought and replaced darn near anywhere depending on the guns as he said they may not be able to be replaced depending on what they are

If you can look at your collection, and find the items of least significance, and ask yourself,”Am I willing to go deeper in debt to buy these?”. If not sell them and cancel out that debt.

Depending on the type of firearms I would sell some to be debt free. Then once debt free I would be saving and paying cash for even better ones moving forward.
My firearms are part of my portfolio. Up around 40% since six years ago.
The biggest mistake I ever made was to sell my Rifles to pay off debt… don’t do it.

I sold all of my guns except the rifle I shot my first deer with. It was worth some pain to pay off our debt faster! Now, I'm slowly building a collection of guns that is more impressive than I used to have. Do it! Except the "important" guns.

If there was only one reason I would love to live in the US, it would be to own firearms.
You can live in Switzerland, be part of the army reserve and own a firearm (meaning you get to keep it at home). And Switzerland is a whole lot better nation to live than 3rd world US
