I live in Eugene, and I frequent that Goodwill fairly often. The last time I was there, I do not remember that line of Wii Fit games being that long. That's honestly impressive. Also, thanks for going into Video Game Headquarters! I've heard of it but never been. Looks awesome! I have to check it out.
I'm from Eugene and I'm going back to visit tomorrow, so this video just got me even more excited. I never knew about the House of Records basement, that's such a cool store! Eugene has lost a lot of good video games stores over the years sadly. Pickings are pretty slim these days. But I do think Video Game Headquarters is a good one!

It's great when you see mom & pop stores that are clearly dedicated to what they are selling and they definitely know their stuff. It's also nice how open and welcoming they are. That must've been pretty cool to be recognized by people.
This video brought back ao many memories! I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2019 and i definitely was a frequent customer at all of these locations! (Especially the goodwell, got lucky a ton before the game boom). Man, i miss the PNW.

My grandfather owned a record store in Brooklyn, NY from the 1950's through mid 70's. Most of the inventory was sold off before he retired but I bet he had some now valuable titles in the shop. He knew the real Sam Goody!

Actually, just you talking about stuff, meeting and talking to people, is fine. Retro stuff is basically dead where I'm at but I watch your videos still because of how you frame and present them. These travel vlogs are up there just beneath the pickups with Reggie, I really like them. Travel vlogs give me that feeling of wanderlust and the pickups give me the feel of hearing some good friends talk about video games. At 34 in a new home on my own in a new city that I moved to during lockdowns I never really met any gaming friends. It seems harder to make gaming friends in my 30s than my 20s and teenage years. I really miss having friends to hang out with, play, and talk about games.
I live in Eugene, these are my weekly haunts. It was very surreal seeing them on a youtube video! I've got art for sale up at Video Game Headquarters, the Ghostbusters and Nuka-Cola round prints in the background! So cool, glad you liked coming around!
I do love this series. It highlights just what is still out there for retro gamers in regards to still being able to buy physical copies of games. The trip looked awesome and you got to go to some amazing places. I particularly like the first shop you went into tin part one. The lady owner seemed so nice and so very knowledgeable with what she had. Little stores like that are amazing and it's so great to see them still thriving to this day. I wish we had more of them here in the UK, but, to my knowledge we have the one where I live and it's just a cash grab. All they care about is getting the customers money and know nothing about what they sell and care less. But, the UK is not really big enough to house that many Little shops like that. Even back in the 90's we had a couple, but they didn't last very long. Still, I did get to see my very fist Vectrex console in one of them, but was not allowed to play it. Sadly, I do not have the space to house physical games where I live, so all my games are downloaded copies. But at least I still get to enjoy the games, if not the packaging. Anyway, I am really glad you had fun on your trip. I am looking forward to the next one.

loved that you stopped by my hometown of Eugene, Oregon. Epic Seconds is awesome, the people working there are super cool. And Video Game headquarters is ok. The pawn shopping in the area is really cool as well. And Goodwills have been hit or miss as of late.
House of Records really is a treasure of a store. I bought my very first album from them back in the day. I am amazed they have managed to stay open. As for our video game stores…. I don’t know, we use to have a lot more options. I think what’s left is kinda “meh”.

I don't know what it is about your trips but I enjoy these videos immensely. Oregon definitely has some incredible beauty and the stores etc. seem to be top notch. A shame I'm half a world away but maybe some day I can scratch together the cash to visit XD

I understand how some owners are wary of how a TH-camr may portray their store, but I always try to be respectful and fair. And if they ever told me no (which one has) I am happy to just film somewhere else.

If I am not mistaken the guy who owns Video Game Headquarters also now owns my local game store down here in Roseburg. It is called Video Games Plus(no not that online store from Canada ours has been around a lot longer) ours gets a lot of inventory from them and vise versa. Prices are on par with price charting and ebay(with NO concideration for condition) always based off of hive values.
Sold; Oregon is going on my list of places to go on my West Coast trip, I have not been there since I was about 10. I already had plans to see Crater lake again too, so thanks for the updated video...now I just need some time off.
@@alyx4436 Independant retro stores. If you've found 'many' in the UK you live in an either very urban area or are very lucky haha. Even a city the size of Sheffield only has 2 and one of them is a CeX.
Oregon looks like a fun state, I would like to visit if I ever go back to the USA. I did buy some games from an opp shop (goodwill) near me but they ended up going back there when I didn't play them for over 6 months. Were about $2 each
This is wild, you came up in my recommended, never seen you before, and it's wild seeing travel content to my hometown. What's even more interesting is I've never been to vghq or that music store, I'll definitely have to stop by. Epic Seconds, or how I always knew it, the CD/Game exchange (used to be a funkier place, back when it was called that, imho in a good way) was my old stomping grounds whenever I had a few bucks to blow.
This will be a fun one, it's always fun to see what finds you find (and for music, well, you'll have a hard time finding my type of music physical in the UK haha) Great stuff MJR :)
That Goodwill used to be so much better. I have found C64, Amiga, and other nice items there in the past. As you said, they tend to sell it online now and keep it in the back. Occasionally something cool will show up in the display case, but it will be eBay priced.
Most of the goodwill / Salvation Army stores up here in Canada where I’m from anyways have monthly auctions that they place the game systems/ games in their front store windows for people to see and then place their bids in the store.
You do a really good job with these, I enjoy all the details about the trip, the logistics, etc. I've never seen video games in my area (Denver, Colorado) at thrift stores, and I go to several a week. I suspect Goodwill puts a large volume of their books and cds online as well, because they never have anything good, I go to their competitor (ARC) where anything is possible. It blows my mind that you can find video games at a thrift store. My relatives from Albuquerque tell me that their thrifts are bare and don't have much, but the Denver area has stores packed with everything. Except video games.

I don't know what it is about your trips but I enjoy these videos immensely. Oregon definitely has some incredible beauty and the stores etc. seem to be top notch. A shame I'm half a world away but maybe some day I can scratch together the cash to visit XD

Those Sierra pinball games were pretty great at the time.

They’re still fun, but I do think Zen Pinball makes the best modern pinball games today. So many great tables and the physical are nearly perfect.

I understand how some owners are wary of how a TH-camr may portray their store, but I always try to be respectful and fair. And if they ever told me no (which one has) I am happy to just film somewhere else.
I love these videos too. Who wouldn’t! 🤷♀️ Then again… I like making them also, so watching them when someone else is going someplace you’ve never been is always a treat.

If I am not mistaken the guy who owns Video Game Headquarters also now owns my local game store down here in Roseburg. It is called Video Games Plus(no not that online store from Canada ours has been around a lot longer) ours gets a lot of inventory from them and vise versa. Prices are on par with price charting and ebay(with NO concideration for condition) always based off of hive values.
Sold; Oregon is going on my list of places to go on my West Coast trip, I have not been there since I was about 10. I already had plans to see Crater lake again too, so thanks for the updated video...now I just need some time off.

@@alyx4436 Independant retro stores. If you've found 'many' in the UK you live in an either very urban area or are very lucky haha. Even a city the size of Sheffield only has 2 and one of them is a CeX.

Oregon looks like a fun state, I would like to visit if I ever go back to the USA. I did buy some games from an opp shop (goodwill) near me but they ended up going back there when I didn't play them for over 6 months. Were about $2 each
This is wild, you came up in my recommended, never seen you before, and it's wild seeing travel content to my hometown. What's even more interesting is I've never been to vghq or that music store, I'll definitely have to stop by. Epic Seconds, or how I always knew it, the CD/Game exchange (used to be a funkier place, back when it was called that, imho in a good way) was my old stomping grounds whenever I had a few bucks to blow.
This will be a fun one, it's always fun to see what finds you find (and for music, well, you'll have a hard time finding my type of music physical in the UK haha) Great stuff MJR :)

That Goodwill used to be so much better. I have found C64, Amiga, and other nice items there in the past. As you said, they tend to sell it online now and keep it in the back. Occasionally something cool will show up in the display case, but it will be eBay priced.
Most of the goodwill / Salvation Army stores up here in Canada where I’m from anyways have monthly auctions that they place the game systems/ games in their front store windows for people to see and then place their bids in the store.
You do a really good job with these, I enjoy all the details about the trip, the logistics, etc. I've never seen video games in my area (Denver, Colorado) at thrift stores, and I go to several a week. I suspect Goodwill puts a large volume of their books and cds online as well, because they never have anything good, I go to their competitor (ARC) where anything is possible. It blows my mind that you can find video games at a thrift store. My relatives from Albuquerque tell me that their thrifts are bare and don't have much, but the Denver area has stores packed with everything. Except video games.
