The American Professionals are at least half the price and are more easily found and have some of the features of these, like the bridge and the 4 way pickup switch. Plus comes in cool colours.
Lovely how he put in so much thought into his signature instrument, unlike some other artists who just slap their signature on a specific colour. Kudos!
Beautiful and humble, I really have a new appreciation for the gentleman, even thinking of people with small hands, putting so much work into really giving people something so perfect. Righteous. Going to go find Electronic stuff too, the brotha is sending a lot of love.
Jaguars are way more versatile than people give it credit for. It can go from incredibly warm and rich and to a corrosive trebly bite to a pristine jangle. And no guitar looks cooler.
Johnny is such a sound geezer, even if you don't dig The Smiths or any of his other great work, you can still appreciate his unique style and interesting take on things. Definitely one musician I'd like to have a pint with.
Johnny loves his bushings! Met him a few years ago, really nice guy. He's a real gear nerd as you can see from this, there's nothing he doesn't know. He's not just an exclusive Fender player either, he really knows his Rickenbackers and Gibsons.
I could listen to Johnny Marr talk about guitars all day, his depth of knowledge and passion for the instrument after all these years is amazing. Fantastic that Fender have given him a signature model and a recognition that guitar does not just have to be all about blues/rock.
Almost 10 years on it must be said that Fender and Johnny Marr have outdone themselves with this guitar. A lot of thought has obviously gone into it, it absolutely works and it sounds really really really great. Masterpiece.
Here after Still Ill and Half a Person. 30 years old and this guys riffs still bring goose flesh. One hears Steve Vai, one says "What an amazing guitarist". What hears Johnny. One weeps for something lost.
It’s really cool that Johnny really made a lot of changes on his signature, and wasn’t one of those guitarists that just sorta kept the same guitar with a few tiny tweaks. Really makes it worth it
i wish there was a video on yt that Johnny just plays his Jag only with no other musicians for hours and hours , never get bored listening to him . this guy is a guitar GOD !!! love you Johnny , thank you for all this heavenly guitar tones , i wouldn't be the same person if i haven't heard this charming man when i was 13 yo .

well done - because the riffs played in this video are played independent of their original context. I was having trouble identifying some of them even being a seasoned Smiths/Marr fan.
"Sounds like I'm supposed to sound I think" ahahah Brilliant comment. Like he's not even sure what he sounds like. I was on a session a while ago and the studio the session was at, had this Jag. I've never really been a Jag guy, much less anyone's "signature" guitar, but when I gave this a spin, I was floored. It has the biggest, janglyiest sound ever. Every melody I played was like instant surf guitar. And I mean that in the best possible way. It just had a perfect tone. I tried it because we were tracking some 60s Italian style stuff, you know - the type with a farfisa organ? So the engineer told me to try his Johnny Marr jag for the melody and I almost fell over. It sounded perfect for that kind of stuff. I didn't even have to try to get that sound, it was just there. No pedals, no eq, nothing. I'm picking one up as soon as I have the spare cash. Huge sounding guitar.
Can't believe I'd never heard of this git for half a century. Just discovering his unique style and sound - love it. And... wait, did he jus say he can hear the polarity difference acoustically? !😅🤔🤨
The first 40 seconds of intro music to this video give me chills every time. The accompanying grainy video clips just top it off. Thank you Johnny Marr and Fender!
i appreciate that he didn't just blues solo the entire demo. I'm starting to hate that about looking up a guitar or amp... people need to start showing you the equipment doing what you actually do with it 🤘 (unless you're a blues guy)
That's odd, I have always thought it was bs that every time someone demo'd a guitar they turned up the gain and went all heavy metal on us. I guess it's just perspective?
It's self evident the amount of time and effort has gone into this instrument. As with everything this man has done, I'm sure it will be in a different league.
I bought this guitar about a year and a half ago. Still stunned by how great it sounds and plays! If you're considering buying one I recommend taking the plunge!
So I dont get what he meant on the 4th switch humbucker thing Can the bridge pickup be switched on to be a humbucker? It looks just like a normal single coil

Played this guitar in a shop in Soho yesterday, absolutely brilliant. You can really tell that Marr sat down and worked out exactly what he wanted--the result is a completely versatile guitar. A truly incredible piece from an incredible guitarist.
What a humble guy and so passionate about his guitar and his sound. I've always associated short scale guitars with the student models we played as kids. But after hearing Johnny talk about the thought he put into this guitar and hearing the beautiful sound he gets out it, I tried one out today. I love the way it plays--it has a great feel, compact and intimate. I know it won't make me Johnny Marr, but I think this guitar could definitely influence how and what I play.
This is one of the most beautiful genius thoughtful guitar I have ever seen and heard. From a genius guitarist. Thank you. The want for this guitar is strong with this one
30 years after he changed the world and revolutionized rock music forever with The Smiths (1982), Johnny Marr, one of England's greatest guitarists finally gets his own signature model! Long live Johnny Marr!
i love that johnny goes into real detail about the jag. really nice to hear someone not only explain it, but showcase how much of a passion project this was. a really wonderful video on a wonderful guitar
"cause I feel like I'm fairly typical as a guitar player".... haha I saw johnny 2 nights ago.... 10 feet from him and 4 feet from his wall of amplifiers... absolutely amazing. having just experienced that concert made me laugh all the more at this comment from the video... I realize he might be talking about being typical in terms of gear or setup, but in terms of playing style no he's far from typical. genius.
Johnny is a superb player and you can tell he put thought into every aspect of this guitar. Real nuts and bolts stuff. This is a proper signature model; you can tell he appreciates the opportunity and helped craft it just as he wanted. I'm a Jag aficionado and I have to say although when I played one it didn't quite work for me it's still a beautiful sounding instrument. Johnny really does sound his best when he uses it.
Johnny’s Jag and Eric Johnson’s Strat are in my opinion the best 2 signature models Fender currently produces. Both Johnny and Eric have put in a lot of thought and research into making something unique out of a classic design and you can hear and feel it when you play them.
This really is a signature instrument in the truest sense. Astounding how much thought, skill, care, knowledge, and personality went into this from Johnny alone. It really does make it a genuine one of a kind guitar. Compare to certain others where it's basically like - "it needs to be red" or whatever. Amazing.
Played one today. Will absolutely be buying one soon. Fixes every issue I've ever had with a Jag, and the tone is just fantastic. I've always been more of a Jazzmaster fan, but this might be the best offset in the Fender arsenal.
So I dont get what he meant on the 4th switch humbucker thing Can the bridge pickup be switched on to be a humbucker? It looks just like a normal single coil
NIIIIQQ the fourth switch puts the two pickups in series, in other words like a humbucker, imagine the two pickups were fixed together into one humbucker.
I listened to the Smiths a long time ago and haven't since, but I absolutely want one of these just based on design and features. That is a fantastic guitar!
I'm amazed that anyone ever thought that was a good idea. They did come up with the adjustment in the base of the neck that could be done without removing the neck. Never had one but that was a good idea.
Oh my God, it hurts how much I want this guitar! I can't even play that well, but I understand half of what he's saying in this video and that's enough for me to want to get one, preferably in Sherwood Green. Being poor sucks!! :'(
1:10 - How Soon Is Now? and 5:55 - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out: I was at that gig last year at the Deaf Institute Manchester. I met Johnny after the show and had a good chat with him about his pending Jag release. What a top gent and unbelievable Guitarist.
I for one am not a huge obsessive Johnny marr fan, reading books, keeping albums etc. I definitely respect the music, and enjoy it, it just wasn't at the top of my playlist. However I respected the thought he put into the guitar. I bought it and I absolutely love it. I can completely relate to his logic. All jags need this bridge available, vintage are great but the enhancements make a huge difference.
Wow, I've seen so many Signature Models explained where they just did something to just say its different... this is truly an amazingly well thought out original and unique signature model... wow!
hah! I saw your comment before I saw the video, and forgot the exact time you mentioned. Then heard that riff and immediately was like...fuck this is totally the part he was talking about. It's beautiful!!!! :)
I can't believe it's over thirty years since I first got introduced to The Smiths. JM was making unique, character filled melodies that subtly told haunting stories during a time when other guitarists were running around with pink Lycra trying to outnoodle each other with their faster, louder, talking guitar stuff. Interesting to hear him discuss his instrument and craft. Very cool guy and guitar. Glad Fender recognized his significance.
Who else would love to hear a "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" reprisal on an upcoming JM album that is simply an extended instrumental (five minutes of an 'extension' built around :05 - :40)? Haunting. Beautiful. Atmospheric.
You know everyone always brings up the same few songs as his guitar hero songs.. charming man. Headmaster, there is a light, how soon is now... but listen to Meat is murder that songs sound is just so eerie and mysterious and I really feel that song lost out because of the lyrics but Marr created a musical masterpiece in my opinion
Excellent video. The reason I like this video is that it's clear how passionate Johnny Marr is about developing and using his customised design. Often, I'm cynical when it comes to large manufacturers like Fender who release "signature" guitars, cashing in on a famous "name"... but in this instance, Johnny Marr is clearly very passionate about the design of his custom model, and the last few seconds of this film clearly shows how proud he is too.
What a lovely unaffected guy. Modest yet so incredibly important in creating such a beautiful and immediately recognizable sound. I never fancied the Jaguar, but think I may have become a convert after watching and hearing this clip. Many Thanks
Reel around the fountain, There is light never goes out, Some girls are bigger than others, I love them all. As a bassist Johnny Marr is my favorite guitar player.
This would be a good guitar for the players out there wanting to recreate the Smiths sound. Johnny Marr is one of the best, unique guitarists whose come along in the last 50 years.
daily vids I didn’t take it that way. I took it as him giving input to make things more accessible and clearer tone-wise. Specifically with knocking pick up switches during a performance. And the simple fact that he thinks about people with shorter arms and smaller hands is a big deal. But a signature model means he gets to give his input on what he’d want on a guitar, so it’s not like he’s just changing it for the sake of changing things.
Marr should be pretty happy & proud of this guitar - the street talk is very positive about the design changes he made to the original design & the playability of this model is regarded very highly.
At first I thought: "It sounds kind of okay". Then he turned away from the mic a few minutes in and I thought: "I guess I can see it...". Then he started talking about the switches and pickups and all the sibilance kicked in, and clothing rustle. Jeez.
Clearly JM has identified issues in the guitar which needed improvement. The bridge falling down being one example. Have Fender taken this on board and changed the standard Jaguar as a result?

Isn't is? It's breath taking...
Reel around the fountain, There is light never goes out, Some girls are bigger than others, I love them all. As a bassist Johnny Marr is my favorite guitar player.
I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN IN OTHER PEOPLE LIVES AND NOW IT'S HAPPENING IN MINE ....
I could watch this over and over . What a man .
I love Johnny I love the smiths and I love Jags my favorite guitar
if politicians ran countries with as much passion and dedication as this man has put into this guitar, we'd be living in utopias
Johnny Fucking Marr, love this man
This would be a good guitar for the players out there wanting to recreate the Smiths sound. Johnny Marr is one of the best, unique guitarists whose come along in the last 50 years.
He loves Fender Jaguar so much! That's why he changed everything about it.
daily vids I didn’t take it that way.
He changed way less than people who simply tear out the rhythm circuit & put humbuckers on them
Marr should be pretty happy & proud of this guitar - the street talk is very positive about the design changes he made to the original design & the playability of this model is regarded very highly.
I love my Johnny Marr Jag!!!,Got it a year ago and use it a lot for recording...
Omg, look at all those beautiful Fender Amps!
fender can't even normalize audio???
Right!?
...hahaha! It's funny running across these old Videos. His lavalier sounded like absolute dysentery!
Sucks too, Marr's got good things to say!
At first I thought: "It sounds kind of okay". Then he turned away from the mic a few minutes in and I thought: "I guess I can see it...". Then he started talking about the switches and pickups and all the sibilance kicked in, and clothing rustle. Jeez.
Or record in at least 1080. 😳
They just need to hire better video producers lmao
right
Love the innovations hes made to a once innovated design ....awesome to see his passion for his guitar
the only Fender that i would buy but i can't because there is no left handed model
You Can buy separatly lefty jaguar neck and body and just put them tohether it is even cheaper
That dude is smart. Absolute props to mister Marr for knowing his stuff, and doing a great job.
What's that wee dity he's playing @7:38.. effortless
Clearly JM has identified issues in the guitar which needed improvement. The bridge falling down being one example. Have Fender taken this on board and
changed the standard Jaguar as a result?
Terrific guitar player.
