      @@JohnnyBuxton totally could be that. I've experienced that before when recording vocals for a song. There was one line that sounded as if I used pitch correction when I didn't because of how I sang it.

    I always thought this is the one song that has aged the best. It was great in the 80's, 90's, 2000's and still has that amazing timeless vibe today.

      I have been obsessed with this song since I was 18 I’m now 51. I love it so much now that I have learned more about the Smiths. It’s even more interesting. I listen to this over and over and over and over at 18 and I’m still doing it at 51.

      First heard this tune smoking hash in 1985, home on leave from the military. To this day, I cannot get this song out of my head. It is so haunting, poignant, spot on, simple yet so complex, that I have yet to hear a song better. I remember the precise place (parking lot of a movie theater) in a 1973 Monte Carlo in Myrtle Beach, SC. My buddy Danny popped in a cassette tape and blew my mind for decades to come.

    Wow. That second guitarist absolutely NAILED the original sound of that haunting slide sound. The way it decays after is just like the original recording. To me that one bit is what makes or breaks any cover of this song. Best live version ever!

      Totally agree. It always bugged me when it wasn't nailed on certain live versions. It makes such a difference when it's done this way, as you say, like the original recording. THis guy's version is so good too, check it out....

      Without Andy & Mike the musical Chemistry would literally be different. Sure this is tight & clean performance, though the Original Members performing together is where the real Magick happened. Notice that's past tense. It's good, not enough to discredit the other members who also contributed substantially to achieve what they had together. Johnny me er woulda made it as a solo act before first establishing himself with the Smiths & Visa Versa for Morrissey. All of the ingredients are equally important to the whole.

    This song never gets old. Johnny’s voice may not have the extension of Morrisey but it’s definitely not lacking in expression here. And as always his guitar does a lot of the speaking.

    I had no idea that Johnny Marr could as well sing. He honors the electric guitar, how can I put it? He plays it with the subtlety of a cello player, every ostinato, every chord, every rhythm in place for a particular musical reason. A great musician.

However, once I lost my “shallowness” I started to listening to Andy Summers (The Police), Paul Reynolds (Flock of Seagulls) and this guy, Marr and noticed those guys play for color/texture “chords” and not speed. That’s the route I took.

      I saw an interview with the producer who said a jazz chorus might also have been used in a take but the four twins is common knowledge. It can be replicated with a plug in in a DAW but like a lot of pre digital recordings it doesn’t quite have that mojo. Or Marrjo.

      @@dav2593 while the original was recorded dry the track was indeed then then sent into 4 Fender Twins using each amps tremolo after recording. It's well documented they had to keep resynching the tremolo speeds because they could never get through the entire song without them going out of sync
