@@maximum.p Did you watch the races of the 1981 season? If you did, then you should know, that the Williams was no longer the best car of the year. That belonged to the Brabham BT49C. Also, Alan Jones was probably the fastest driver on the grid in 1981 and was even able to challenge Prost at Germany, where the turbos should have had a massive advantage. He had so many unreliability issues and bad luck. In my opinion, he should have definitely won the 1981 title.

    • @efeunoalot

@@MrTann2010 Jones wasn't the fastest driver in 1981. The fastest, and smarter driver was Reutemann.
He ran against Piquet and the Williams Team it self.
1981 Champion should be Reutemann. No doubt about it!!

For all you saying Jones lucked into a best car.
    You know squat.
Jones was a GP winner before Williams. Even Frank W admits that Jones coming into the team made them more serious about winning.
As a driver he was decisive on setup, a very underrated skill, fantastic relationship with engineer Head.
Also one of the best overtakers of all time. In my opinion, he was a dominant force from 79 to 81.
And I am a ardent Piquet fan. Still dont like Canada 1980 situation, however Jones is underrated as hell.

one of the most impressive races I have seen is AJ substituting for an injured Mario Andretti in 1985 CART(Indycar) race at road america . Tom, this is a cracking series. AJ's podcast is a gem, like most of the podcasts with the guys who no longer have skin in the game. They can speak freely and that makes great interviews. Pablo Montoya's and Gerhard Bergers interviews were good fun, loved the one with Alain Prost. The ones with Emerson and Jackie were really moving as you get the feeling that even after all these years they still struggle to process the cruelty of their era. What about Jacques Laffite and Jody Sheckter? By all means thank you for these great podcasts

This is a fantastic listen, but Alan isn't correct when he said him and his father are still the only father/son to win the Australian Grand Prix - Keke and Nico Rosberg both have (and Nico did before this interview took place).

Every Tuesday evening ends on a high for me as I charge my Bluetooth speaker (sadly not Bose) in anticipation of Beyond The Grid the following day. This week was no different & I was listening to K-Mag at 06:00 in the shower on Wednesday. I enjoyed the episode so much that I had to visit the podcasts back catalog to find another gem.
I noticed the Alan Jones episode & I thought I’d take a listen. Had never heard the name before.
I can now state unequivocally that Mr Alan Jones is my favourite driver of all time. Did I mention I have no idea what he looks like & never seen a single one of his races? From meeting Count Dracula at Maranello to the “one stone through the visor & it’s hello you know who” quip I was in stitches from beginning to end & I mean literally the end.
His reply to “we might have to bleep out a few words” was classic! He has a fan in me for life! Can’t wait till next Tuesday night so I can charge my speaker once again. Keep the episodes coming. I’m hooked!

      There is a video of him arguing with Frank Williams in a pit lane on TH-cam. Basically he says;
AJ: Nah, it's too low and I can't see forward.
FW: Perhaps it would help if you sit on your wallet Alan?
AJ: Give me something to bloody put in it!

My mum, may she rest in pace described Jonesy as Russell Crowe with a steering wheel. Says it all.
