    I found this particularly interesting because he and I are almost exactly the same age and, through books and magazines, I know the story well of his involvement with Ferrari in '74 and so on. If I'm not mistaken, his grandfather was one of the victims in the Ardentine Cave massacre in '44 by the SS. In '78 or ''79, I was driving down a street in. Beverly Hills and suddenly, at the side of the street, to my amazement, was Luca. I looked at him and grinned and he looked at me and grinned. I couldn't pull over and park and say hello because I was working. It turned out that, that weekend, Ferrari was in town for some kind of concours.

    To every and all Alonso fans out there, I actually suggest you listen what Montezemolo says...
    If you actually listen to what Montezemolo says, he doesnt really blame Alonso for losing those championships....he said that most of all he lost those championships because he was unlucky and because Red Bull was simply stronger during those years....only at 3rd reason he said (and he was more saying this compared to Schumi) that when things went badly, he didnt stick together with the team as much as the likes of Schumi did, that Alonso was more about himself rather than strong teamplayer.
    Still as driver Montezemolo said he rates Alonso as high as Hamilton and Vettel and thus even above Kimi, even though Kimi won them championships (although he also rated Kimi very high)

    • @ciaronsmith4995
      @ciaronsmith4995 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Alonsoc called his team idiots over the air at Monza in 2013! Sorry he deserves all criticism from Luca.
      Luca rates Kimi lower? Well maybe that's because he never had the real Kimi.
      People at McLaren rank Kimi as high as Hakkinen and Senna. Ferrari never gave Kimi the proper conditions to dominate. Kimi is absolutely at Vettel and Alonso's level. He just has a narrower window.

    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Ciaron Smith @SamuPapito F1 Oh calm your tits, both of you! I only quoted here what Montezemolo said.....
      Plus you can tell that while he rated Alonso as driver bit higher, on more personal level and as team player, he liked Kimi more.
      Overall you can tell from the comments from former and current Ferrari leadership that Kimi in many ways is kept in higher regard in the team for that, and ofc for the fact that he is still Ferrrari's latest champion.

    • @carlossamuel9052
      @carlossamuel9052 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Balnazzardi ur right Kimi is a great wingman hahahaha. Real champions aren’t wingman’s, Senna, Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton, Schumi but Kimi has been Vettel’s bitch. Im sorry but it’s true. Cmon hate on me...

    Finally someone who says the truth about Sebastian, im so tired hearing people just hating him when they do not know anything about their personal life etc. It is easy to criticize from outside but you do not know what is happening in the inside. Because Hamilton was perfect those last two years everyone thinks that Vettel does not know how to drive an F1 car

    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Ofc not....no one is perfect, however we should just ignore the fact that those mistakes costed Vettel heck of a lot points and propably the championship....I would say that in 2017, even without Vettel's mistakes, he still would have lost it because Ferrari's poor reliability at the end of the season as well as fail to develope the car the way Mercedes did, but last season even though it was partly also that Ferrari's upgardes to the car during 2nd half didnt quite work as planned, Vettel's mistakes definitely costed more.

    • @Leonardo-vj3hm
      @Leonardo-vj3hm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Balnazzardi yeah exactly. 2017 Seb drove amazingly but was let down to reliability as you said. He had the second fastest car on the grid but still outdrove it in front of hamilton on many occasions. 2018 Seb did make mistakes but none he couldn’t recover from. Then after Belgium the ceo at Ferrari passed away which caused an internal political war for the ceo and team principal position. That caused them to lose focus on the wdc and lose the development race again. Bad luck didn’t help them either

Still, it would've been nice to hear something from 'the boss' at Ferrari on those magical years & about what it was like with Michael behind the scenes as a driver & given they're close family friends now and that Mick Schumacher is now driving for Ferrari. • @Arrows
      @Arrows 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielmills792 And not to forget the fact that he redounded Frank Williams offer to drive for him / his team after Sennas death because he ( Frentzen ) couldn´t leave Peter Sauber so soon after Peter brought him finally in the F1, because Frentzen thought 1993 that his chance would never come to drive in the f1 ( Schumacher and Wendlinger, his fellows from the time when the three drove together the Mercedes sports cars, stayed the years after 1989/1990 with Mercedes and drove already 1993 in the f1 while he was in Japan and drove F3 ).
      Potentially the biggest mistake in his F1 career not to drive for Williams after Sennas death ( the Williams of 1997 was far less superior in comparision to the Williams cars of 1994 - 1996, as you probably already know ), but the honesty in these circumstances is unique and I think a lot of young fans don´t know these story. Who knows, if he accepted the offer back in 1994 he could be 2 or 3 time world champion today. And the possibilty to hear this from him himself...Through this interview HHF could achieve even more fans, I think. :)

    Beyond the Grid is great. Can you ask more questions about driver's techniques? Anything they do inside the car. Like Senna blipping the throttle around corners. I loved it when somebody you interviewed said that Schumacher used the 12 cylinder engine to rotate the car with trailing throttle over steer. Remember, most F1 fans are frustrated F1 drivers. Some of us do some amateur racing. Keep it coming.

    26:50 - Mr Codero Di Montezemolo's feedback to Niki Lauda when he asked "Where was he with the pit-board / messages during the race. This man is pure class, He embodies the Ferrari I fell in love with as a kid and a great embassy for the Marque may it be F1 or their commercial car manufacturing, plus he is responsible for possibly the most memorable football World Cup 'Italia 90' in history, which then catapulted Italian football into the limelight in the 90's. Shame he chose not to push his political aspirations, he'd be a great man to steer Italy forwards! Michaels body language during the Monza post race combined with the immediate Ferrari press release were red flags for me. I also remember hearing rumblings that Luca really pushed the agenda. It seems, Tom is trying hard to avoid to many good words about Michael Schuhmacher. In every video when the talk goes in this direction he ask quickly an other question or like in this video cut the Schumacher era with one sentence from himself, and continunes with Kimi.
    Formula 1 had thier glory days with Michael Schuhmacher. With actual drivers and cars, the fascination is lost. To make the actuall era better looking, he tries to reduce the fascination of that man, that made this racing series so popular. But I hope people who watched the races in those and saw the amazing car control from Michael, will never forget how far he was ahaed from the drivers today.

    If you also consider that Enzo himself never start his final race too.. But Enzo never looked back but you could say Mr Lauda did the same as Enzo was not in the right state to complete the race.

    Off topic, but I am thinking about purchasing F1 TV/Live and wanted to know if you get to watch FP1-3 and qualifying with the $26.99 subscription or do I have to get the $79.99 package to watch that? I recently switched ISP's and live TV is through an app and there isn't a DVR so I have to stay up until 1 am or later to watch FP1-3, qualifying, and the race. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

    In my opinion Ferrari had made an important mistake - back in the Schumacher era Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne as some of the smartest guys ever, already installed People who were extremely good and who would have been able to keep Ferrari the Number 1 in F1. But Ferrari fell back into the pre Montezemolo/Pre Todt/Pre Brawn/Pre Byrne/Pre Schumacher Era and did not give these people the time they needed. And as these guys did not yet have the reputation of a Ross Brawn and without Brawns "protection" Ferrari fired them just because Ferrari did not win the championship and was only Nr. 2. Aldo Costa was implemented from Brawn/Byrne as Chief Designer. Also Tom Allison. But they got fired. And Brawn and Byrne knew they would be able to carry on their legacy. Ferrari fired them after they almost won the championship. Because it was just almost. But they would just have needed some time. But as in the era before Schumacher/Todt/Brawn Ferrari felt back to Act stupidly. They fired Costa and Allison.
    And Costa and Allison are they guys who build the dominating cars of Mercedes...Brawn and Byrne knew why they wanted them to get their positions when they retire...but Ferrari did not gave them the time they needed...and now Mercedes earns the victories that Ferrari would earn if they would just had given Costa and Allison some time.

    Not to defend Alonso here but this is unfair commenting on an ex-Ferrari driver not winning the Championship when the blame for it is on you, Mr. Montezemolo, at least partly. Yet I don’t see Alonso blaming you as you appear to be blaming him

    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As driver Montezemolo said he rates Alonso as high as Hamilton and Vettel.
