Yeah, when a movie failed in the 80's - early 00's it was simply that. The only one's to blame were maybe the script writers and even then, they thought "Ok, that was a mess. Shit happens." and went over. If a movie fails today, modern Hollywood is like "Oh no. The fans hate our black, rich, gay, pan- and transexuel protagonist! They clearly must be racist and sexist at the same time! And we took so much effort to present every aspect of the society." While the fans say: "We don't hate the Protagonist. We simply hate the whole movie."

I'm so glad I was born back in a time when going to the cinema to watch a movie was an actual adventure that you never wanted to end. I used to save up all the allowance I could just to go to the movies on an almost weekly basis or buy a favorite music album. Now, I can't even remember the last time a movie was worthy enough to go through the trouble of leaving my house. These days I end up endlessly searching streaming sites until I inevitably just go with an old, non-woke classic.

I recommend David Eddings' books. He's brilliant. Start with his The Belgariad series. You'll laugh till you're red in the face. Only if you like fantasy though.

this is a golden opportunity for independent creators. Before i would've told independent story tellers or movie makers to do something else, you weren't going to beat the big dogs. But now, we live in a time where the big dogs are falling out with their audience. We have to strike while the iron is hot, we have to market and spread alternative media content as much as possible. Disney is killing itself, let's not let it go to waste.

I guess last time would be when the Disney Renaissance pulled them out of their bad rut. But we have additional help which is the internet and ability to do your own thing and market it independently. You used to have to go a bit company to have your project worked on. Joey B Toonz makes fun of the crazy woke and can be a good laugh as well.

I'm actually spending more time watching TH-cam commentaries on the industry than watching "movies".... I'm also finding it harder to access and find out about what used to be called "indie" productions... As a bum on a seat I have been saying for years that there is a lack of scripting, story development, etc. "Woke" is the last straw. If Shakespeare had to be politically correct, he wouldn't have written anything... I like some European Art House cinema, but surely I shouldn't have to go either or... too much money is being spent in the wrong places, leaving nothing for the rest

I recently bought my first blu ray player and have been slowly collecting movies and shows for it to play. I practically gave away my dvd collection back when Netflix got big and they had practically everything. Those days are gone and I’m mad at myself for getting rid of what I had. I really do not care about streaming anymore, nor do I care about any new movies coming out unless it makes waves like Joker or the premise is hilariously entertaining like Cocaine Bear. I decided I’m not paying for everything on a streaming platform monthly, I’m going to pay for what I want to watch, just like it used to be. Fuck streaming.

Exactly, I used to subscribe to Stan as they had some classic British comedy such as Red Dwarf. But it seemed every time I logged in there was more and more drag queen garbage and "woke" trash. Hence to say my subscription ended!

I hardly watch mainstream television. As far as films, I watch old movies. I do not support Hollywood anymore. I am so tired of actors using their celebrity to push their political agenda. Their agenda is not mine.
Most of these so-called actors, you see have not even finished high school and they’re trying to tell you how to vote. I don’t think you need to have a college degree to be an actor but one thing you do need as an actor is the ability to shut your pie hole.

Agreed. The advent of our Digital world, be it good or bad, has removed Hollywood and Entertainment giants as the gatekeepers of creative content. Shows like The Chosen are a good example.

Hollywood couldn't "create" much anyway, it stole ideas from all over the world and just pumped enormous amount of money into remaking it. Especially blockbusters. For example I'm Czech and I can give you examples of movies are direct copies of Czech(oslovak) originals: E.T and Pearl Harbor. There was very little innovation given into the Hollywood copy, it was just directly copied and made on much, much larger budget.

Different countries have always borrowed different themes back and forth, The Golden era of Japanese film borrowed from earlier American Westerns, then the Italians and Americans remade a lot of Japanese movies off that. Now that said hollywood has jumped the shark, I'm all for another studio to step up and challenge them.

I can remember when a hollywood actor was humble and said things like... "I am so lucky to have been given a chance to play this character." or "The writers really allowed my character to shine." These were real actors and actresses. Now it is all about ME! None of them seem to care. It is all about how they are the first to do something. How their sexuality matters or how their race matters. I'm sorry I thought the best actor was one that made you believe they were the character and not themselves! Well not any longer!
I remember when they knew they were nothing without the audience.
There's a balance. There is truth to those things as well (the race, sex ect.) But I do agree it should be mostly about the character and not the person acting as the character.
These people have never been grateful for anything. Why would you expect them to be any more grateful for their million dollar paycheck than they were for their unearned welfare check, food stamps and air-conditioned section 8 housing? Nothing you do for them is ever enough.

As someone from Gen-Z, I am so jealous of my parents who grew up with pop culture that wasn't saturated with today's political nonsense.
Considering they have trillions of dollars of ESG money at their disposal... you'd probably more likely to die of old age before they run out of money to spend on the cause.
I grew up in the 80s and it was glorious.
They are not in it for the money, the people who really own them are the stock holders and they are so rich our lives are the only thing left for them to play with.

I was born in the late 80's, enjoyed 90's to 2010, some of the best times ever. I'm just sorry for people who was born in the early 2ks, by the time they had a saying on taste almost everything was tainted or dead and they only got to heard people such as myself talking about how good we got it. All they have nowadays is a market saturated by super hero movies, woke politics/entertainment and a videogame industry focused in gambling and season passes, there is no longer an urge to progress to something else or make something revolutionary, a lot of people just wander around without a true identity.
That said, that doesn't excuse them from destroying everything they did not build or identify with.
If you take moral advice from Hollywood; you deserve everything you get.

Hollywood is blaming the audience for the failure of show/movies. If they made a movie about the LGBTQ community, why didn’t that community support that movie? Movies with females in power failed why weren’t they supported by the women it portrayed?
Instead of accusing people of being homophobic and sexist, make a good movie/show with good actors and storylines that people could enjoy and look forward to talking about, spreading the word.
Once upon a time, people went to the movies and had trouble deciding on which one to see. Sometimes they would plan a whole Sat afternoon AND evening to fit in 2 or 3 they were excited for. And we did it in a snow storm, walking up hill, fighting off wild beasts.

We are merely a small part of the global monopoly board and this country has been mortgaged to the hilt. At least we make a great immigration dumping ground. Cheap labor and sky high prices always work in favor of the ruling elite and their endless portfolios of corporate and real estate holdings. We are merely slaves who are easily expendable and are being led to the slaughter.

At first I was sad, but like stages of grief I've accepted it and now moved on lol. Just like cutting the cable cord I felt like an addict going through withdrawal, but after a few weeks you get used to it and move on to other things. I haven't spent a penny on anything woke or having a woke message for over two years now, on entertainment, but also clothing brands etc. It's almost like a sport keeping your money away from those fools.

For the most part you can go up to about the first decade of the 2000's as well for some good stuff. Wasn't till about the last 10 years the woke cancel culture shit got bad bad. Especially comedies. What made them so great was that everybody was fair game for poking fun at and the context was so absurdly ridiculous, over the top, non believable that that's precisely what made good comedies so funny and fun to watch and nobody even remotely took the material seriously because it was jokes. But that's what happens when you sub divide people into endless victimized groups so that everyone hates each other and people start basing their identities on political rhetoric. In that case what used to be a simple disagreement in opinions between people was all of a sudden no longer disagreement but an actual attack on one's character. When objectivity gets erased so anything can be one's reality, now a disagreement is to invalidate one's existence which makes it justified in their warped mentally ill minds to lash out in anger sometimes physically and violently. Comedy is the one thing that can actually bring people together to laugh at stereotypes making them more and more irrelevant, not to mention criticize and mock politicians and their policies which is just bad for "their" image and control. Of course those controlling the system can not afford people to unite because then we'd all be able to see who the real enemies of humanity are and fight them. As it is, this way we stay permanently distracted and divided fighting amongst each other while "they" sit back and rake in the profits of our own destruction.

On a side note, if you can find it check out anything Mel brooks. Saturday night live used to be the best from the 80's until about early 2000's like 05ish. Anything "National Lampoons" is money. And I must say that their quality is v. good! Something once so normal and obvious like: a good script, well-written characters, engaging plot and good action - they are present there!:) In contrast to the current made in hollywood crap that is unwatchable...

Yes! I started watching k-dramas/Korean productions 2 years ago, and it's 99% of what I watch when I have time for TV.
They have a knack for getting you invested in every character on the show (sometimes I've watched dramas like Vincenzo where I didn't really care for the main leads, but the supporting characters kept me invested in the series). Their production is great, it's fun to predict the tropes once you start to identify them (doesn't take long), and frankly, I appreciate their conservative approach when it comes to portraying sex and violence. There are some Netflix- produced k-dramas crossing those lines (Squid Game was a big one for that), but that's not the norm.
Even sweden have some good shows.

We watch films/tv as a form of escapism - a few hours off from reality to be entertained, when it is riddled with messages TELLING us what to think and believe it is no longer entertaining it becomes hard work, when box ticking for actors parts is more important than the right actor for the part it becomes frustrating and noticeable, everything feels forced - WE ARE NOT STUPID, WE KNOW WHAT WE LIKE NOT WHAT WE ARE TOLD TO LIKE

I lived in Hlwd for 24 years, moved away 14 yrs ago. I am an old movie buff. I have no time for what it has become. When one political ideology starts to dictate artistic integrity, kiss it all goodbye.
We did not get to where we are today without the propaganda back then. If you go back 50 years and have a discerning eye, you can see it.
Kinda like the propaganda films they did for govt. during WW2. You bet. Bring back the good old days and casting couch and keep those women in place!!

Well that's a straight up lie but people always try the "well it's both sides" thing often. The country was way WAY less progressive the more you go back in time each decade and most movies and such were hard conservative or traditional America and that's literally where most classics came from. Not all of the writers and directors were conservative but things were more conservative and we had classical liberal and conservatives who were involved in entertainment across the board and understood what the consumer wanted and gave us that only taking risk with new concepts.
And not a single one of you had a problem with how movies and shows were going UNTIL progressives took over entertainment and started pushing pushing their ideology. If what you said was right, why wasn't all these complaints happening when the country was more conservative putting out conservative or centrist entertainment? It only started when progressives dominated? Idk why some of you act like the problem is something else. The problem is progressives, plain and simple, that's it. Their ideology gives lee way to the most evil to be done, the most people to take advantage, it appeals to emotion not logic, not true care and empathy for fellow man, it gives the most opportunity to gain control via government and propaganda and for mankind itself to become hedonist practices and indulge in the most filth and disgust.
